We just returned from an all-too-short stay at the Hard Rock. We were only there 2 nights this time.

Our cast consisted of myself, DW, DS(10), DS(7), and DD(3).

We checked in on Thursday, May 25th. DW and DS(10) were at Discovery Cove today, so it was just me, DS(7), and DD(3) at check-in.

We arrived at the Hard Rock at about 3:15 p.m. We had to wait about 10 minutes to check in. Once at the counter, check-in went pretty smooth.

We booked a Deluxe Room, and we were given room 1099. When he told me the room number, I immediately had concern, as I generally do not like lower level rooms. Anyway, off to the room we went.

As soon as the door opened, I was overwhelmed with the smell of cigarette smoke. We had requested a non-smoking room as DW has asthma. I had trouble breathing in this room. As I went to the bathroom, the sink was full of ashes.

I was very disappointed in this room and called the front desk immediately to request to be moved to another room. I also noticed that the “view” from the window was completely blocked by shrubs and plants. There was no view of anything.

The front desk told me there were no other Deluxe Rooms available. I told her that there was no way possible that we could stay in this room with the smell and my wife’s asthma. Then she comes back with “oh wait here’s one”.

We were then moved to room 6101. Much, much better.

Shortly after we got settled in, DW called and said they were on their way back from Discovery Cove. When they returned, we decided to go to Margaritaville for dinner. We got over there about 6:30 or so and had about a 20 minute wait for a table.

The dinner at Margaritaville was pretty good. And we loved the atmosphere.

After dinner, we decided to go back to the Hard Rock and swim. We love the pool at the Hard Rock with just one exception. We wish it had a section that was just a little deeper. I love the DJ and all the games and things that go on.

On Friday, we had breakfast at The Kitchen. It was a very, very good breakfast. After breakfast, we spent all day at Universal and Islands of Adventure. We didn’t return to the hotel until 8:30 p.m. And since we were leaving for the airport VERY early the next morning, we didn’t have a chance to swim in the pool again.

It was a very short stay at the Hard Rock this time. It was a very enjoyable stay and we will stay there again. I was a little disappointed in our initial room that we were given, but in the end, they moved us and we were VERY pleased with the Deluxe room. Lots of space!

Was it a deluxe king or queen and what kind of a view did you have?

We had 2 queen beds. And the sofa pulled out into a queen size bed.

And the view was a garden view. I was told that there were no Deluxe rooms that had a pool view. I was not aware that there were no Pool View Deluxe rooms until I arrived and requested that.

I would venture to guess that some of the suites might have a pool view.

I know what you mean about short stay. DH and I stayed HRH in January for only two nights. I told him I would not go for less then 3 nights again! He told me that no matter how many nights we stay, I will always want just one more night! He is probably right.

Glad things got better for you after the disappointment of that first room.

There are water view deluxe rooms. We have stayed in them. The hotel must just have had none available.

To get the pull out sofa do I book a Deluxe room? I don't care about the view but really want the extra sleep space so that DS and DD don't have to share! Thanks!

I'm sure there are others that would know much more than me, but I will tell you what I know from my experiences.

I would have to say yes, you would have to book a deluxe room to get the pull out sofa.

We stayed at the Hard Rock last year in a Club Level room. I think it was a standard room. It had 2 queen beds and a sofa, but not a sleeper sofa.

The deluxe room we stayed in this year was quite a bit larger than the one we stayed in last year. Besides the sleeper sofa, it had a very large area where we could store our luggage. And since we are a family of 5, we had a LOT of luggage. The deluxe room was very nice and spacious.

Two nights can be enough time if you check in real early (7am) on your first day, and then have an afternoon flight or drive home. Sometimes, the room is ready and then you can get settled in. Then it "feels" like you stayed longer.

My last stay we had the deluxe room and it was the first stay we had no complaints with the room.We have had from dog stained carpets that stunk to hair filled bed spreads like someone was doing the nasty just before we checked into the room. Our first stay was so bad that the manager had come up to our room with staff and he was very upset that I was asked to come down to the office and he gave us a free stay for future vacations but we love the place and it's awesome so we keep going and our next trip is June 28th thru july 2nd in a concierge room. This is our 10th stay at the Rock...
