I had some extra points that were going to expire at the end of my use year due to borrowing a few points and then re-scheduling a trip. So, rather then lose them we decided to try a stay at Hilton Head since we were driving down from CT and we needed a stop/break point.

We had no idea what to expect and were pleasantly surprised!! While it was the slow season, the resort was great for some down time to relax and enjoy some warm sunny weather. The restaurants weren't open, but we had a fantastic meal at a restaurant in the Marina area (Bistro 17). There doesn't seem to be a ton of stuff to do at the resort other then relax, which is exactly what we were looking for. Here are some pics....

you couldn't walk out to the patio area due to construction, but looks like it would be a nice spot!

Overall we enjoyed our stay here and were actually wishing we booked more then 1 night. This resort may be entirely different during the busier seasons, from what people were saying it gets pretty crazy. I was looking at points there for a May trip and they are more then twice the point value then BCV :scared1:

are they supposed to be a bear or some other animal...

or shadow's prints?

Belle

Shadow seems to be a dog that is their mascot type "character". He has a doghouse on the front step, the pins and shirts for the resort have shadow on them. The room had a "country" feel and the tile floored mudroom, like the wet dog just came in from the marsh type theme...:confused3

We've only spent a weekend in a studio, but we loved the resort. I called my DH over to admire your pictures. Thanks for posting them!

We are actually thinking of doing the same thing in dec, since we would be driving from NEPA. Stay 1 night then head down to Wilderness. How far was it from Disney World about 5 1/2 hours?

Thanks for sharing your pictures! HHI was our first DVC vacation back in May 2007. We had a blast and can't wait to return someday. How long was the ride from CT?

Love looking at pictures of our second DVC home!!! You got some wonderful shots! Yes, the resort gets pretty hopping in the summer time which is our preferred time to visit. But even then HHI is still very relaxing which is why our whole family loves it there.

Great pictures! Made me wish we were back there. We've been for long weekends twice, once in October 2006 and over Memorial Day 2008. Even for Memorial Day it wasn't crazy, the resort still had that nice relaxing feel. But it was warm enough to swim and play at the beach and all the amenities were open. I'm hoping to book a long Labor Day weekend in March. We either come on Sunday or pay cash for Saturday night. The Sat. night points are outrageous!

Yes, it was just about 5 hours from HH to WL. I'd say we left HH around 10 by the time we got breakfast and were at WL by 2:30-3:00 maybe?

We were anxious to leave home. We left CT at 5pm on Sunday, drove past Washington DC and found a rest area to sleep around midnight; woke up around 5am and drove to HH. We got there around 1:30.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed them. We spent a long time talking with the Chef from the restaurant we ate at (Bistro 17). He was telling us what it was like to live there. Sounded a lot like Cape Cod.....CHAOS!!! There was a lot of places closed due to the time of the year, but it didn't impact us much. We really weren't there long but wished we had booked staying there for 2 nights to be able to spend more time.

The points are amazing in the April/May time compared even to BCV. I was shocked :scared1:

Thanks for posting this. :) We have been going to the DVC resort since it opened and our kids/grandkids just love it there. A few years ago we purchased a condo right across the harbor from the DVC resort and it's in the 2nd to last photo in your post. We now put the kids in 2 2BR villas and we stay in the condo and just make the 5 minute walk back and forth.

Your photos are great - glad you enjoyed your stay! :)

We were walking around the marina thinking how nice it would be to own a condo there. How nice for your and your family!!! Its a beautiful area, and it was such a refreshing change from the cold of the NE to stay somewhere that felt so warm and beachy. Usually when we drive we stay in a hotel right along 95 so we never really see much of anything. I loved this resort and will definately stay again.
