::yes:: Thanks.. :grouphug:

But half the things we learn, I will never use again in my LIFE! Please tell me when the next time I will use the fact that I know about the Aztecs, or that x= 26... :confused3 I'm going to be a chef..PLEASE dont ask..im a dork..and i know volume and measuerments, thats all I'll need.. :rolleyes: I appreciate all teachers and all, but I wish we could learn more useful things..
Actually, even if I weren't an academic, I wouldn't agree that you'll never use the stuff you're learning now. All information forms a basis for further learning, so if you limit yourself to compartmentalized kinds of knowledge, you will have trouble later on making sense of the world in a critical thinking kind of way. Many of my students come into my classes feeling the same way: "I'm going to be a fireman/chef/<name a career>. Why do I need any of these general classes? Why can't I just learn the stuff in my major?" But after some reflection they all pretty much realize that whatever they are going to do in life, they need that knowledge base, even if only to be able to make intelligent decisions as a citizen or as a parent. The people who decide on school curriculums base their decisions on the successes of past liberal education. If the stuff was useless, you can be sure politicians would do away with whatever was unnecessary to save tax dollars. I recommend looking up Robert Harris "On the Purpose of a Liberal Arts Education" on Google. It might help you see the value of these things differently, and since you're going to have to take these classes whether you like it or not, you may enjoy your education more for seeing the usefulness of all you're learning.

Cool. We get to learn about Pirates! There are two things I don't mind learning in school..
Greek Mythology, and Pirates! :thumbsup2

When you get into American history ask your teacher about the pirate era (1600's - 1800's). There were many famous pirates who sailed up and down the east coast such as Black Beard, Captain Cook, and a number of others. I can't remember what grade I was in when I took American History though. Also World History is a good class as England also had a number of pirates in their history as well. Plus in that class you get some mythology as well.

The story behind Davy Jones locker and the lives that pirates led. Learning about them in history class helped me understand alot more about the movie than if I had never heard of some of the places they used (like Tortuga) and some of the things they did like the pirate code.

Lucky! you got to study pirates!!!

Ask questions. History teachers I have found will usually answer any you have if it is in the time period that they are teaching :thumbsup2

In High School I always asked alot of questions if I didn't see what I wanted to know about in the books. Plus it didn't hurt my knowledge that I majored in history in college.

That's just it, it was in the books, but it wasn't on our final so my teacher skipped it!

Ohh I hate it when they do that. It is so unfair to the students not to be able to learn all that is in the book. Especially all of the fun stuff :sad2:

Hmmm.. I'm finding very odd pictures of green hair.. O_O and I resized it and turned her hair lime green lizzY! :teeth:

Here you go LizzY!

Cynd - ER always instructed me to take 4 motrin (800 mg.), puts me right out. Let's compare war stories...did they have to use a tow (toe) truck - har, har. I can't tell you how many times I've heard that one...even from Ortho Surgeon.:rolleyes1 . You got a great rate on rental!!!! Did you use EA & codes/coupons (they will let you combine rates & coupons). We usually switch back & forth between Alamo & National. Anything to skip the terminal's desk is imperative:scared1: Cannot believe you have CM access to pins - lucky duck!
Yep, used EA + codes/coupons. It rocks. I got the EA through mousesavers and used one of the codes listed there and then an Entertainment book coupon. Got a full size for intermediate price, too! Woot!

Here are some pictures of my lanyard and pins. The flash makes some of them look weird and beat up, but they're actually not. I didn't take a picture of DD's lanyard. LOL It's all about ME, doggone it!

Trust me you will find times that at least some of what you are learning now will come in handy in the real world. I myself am terrible at math (never could understand algebra) but I took other classes that have helped me since like art and history as well as science. Some things have even helped me in understanding of all things movies that I have seen like POC and the DaVinci Code (references made in the movies that I understood because of what I learned in school). Once you get to High School you should be able to start taking some electives that you choose and will enjoy (like cooking). Plus to get a college degree (even in cooking) you will need the basics like math, history and english. Just do your best and enjoy the classes that you find interest in.
