Ok, I think I've figured out a very rough schedule for the week that still leaves us some flexibility. If anyone knows of reasons this won't work well, please let me know. Some of our reservations have already been made.

Also, if there is a must do item that I don't know about, please clue me in & maybe we can swap things around.

We have a 3 and 7 year old, so we will be spending 2 hours every afternoon taking naps. Neither of them usually takes a nap and they don't go to sleep until 9:00 (up at 7:00), so I think we'll be able to do the early morning/late night thing if we can get them to sleep in the afternoon.

Thanks to anyone who takes time to read all of this!!!!

My outstanding questions on this are:
  • How long will it take to get to and from the airport?
  • Fort Wilderness - Is Crockett's in the Lodge? How close to pony rides?, can we get to both just by taking the water taxi?
  • Is 6:00 early enough for dinner at Mama Melrose's if we want Fantasmic at 8:00?
  • Should I work Disney Quest in here somewhere? Our Ultimate Park Hopper tickets include it. We've never been.

Sat, 9/27
  • Arrive at airport 3:20pm
  • Check into Poly
  • Cindy's Gala Feast at Grand Floridian, 6:20, have PS'd
  • Watch MK fireworks and electric water parade from Poly beach, or go to MK if Spectromagic is on & they're open late

Sun, 9/28
  • MK opens early, be there
  • Try for Cindy's breakfast....if we don't get it, then late breakfast or early lunch at Crystal Palace
  • 7:15 Hoop De Doo Revue...take water taxi, have PS'd

Mon

I don't really have a morning plan...We'd like to see the Lion King show and AK opens early on Mondays, but there's really nothing else there we want to do except eat at Jiko's. So is it worth going early? Anyone know what showtimes might be?
  • Try again for Cindy's breakfast, if needed
  • Mom & Dad's night out....Grandparents babysit
  • Send grandparents & kids to FW for wagon ride, fishing, or campfire & movie, & pizza at Crockett's
  • 6:00 Dinner with husband (no kids) at Narcoossee's (Grand Floridian)
  • Pleasure Island with husband only...Comedy club, Adventurer's Club, 70's Dance club

Tues

  • Try again for Cindy's breakfast, if needed
  • MGM opens early...go there
  • 11:30 Lunch at the Sci-Fi...we like it even though the food's not tops
  • 5:15 Luau at Poly, have PS'd
  • If everyone's up for it, hop on the monorail and catch Illuminations at 9:00, providing it doesn't move to 8:00 in the fall

Wed
  • Go to Universal Studios for the day

Thurs
  • Try again for Cindy's if needed
  • Late breakfast at Crystal Palace if we don't go to Cindy's
  • 12:30 or so - Pizza at Crockett's in Fort Wilderness + Pony ride
  • 6:00 Dinner at Mama Melrose's & Fantasmic at 9:00 (maybe 8:00 if they move the time in the fall)

Fri
  • No real day plans
  • 5:30 already have reservations at LTT at 5:30, plus tickets to MNSSHP at 7:00

Sat
  • Check out early and have hotel hold our luggage
  • Last chance for Cindy's breakfast
  • MGM opens early, maybe go there?
  • Have something good for an early lunch
  • 3:25 fly home

*Arriving at 3:20 you should be at your hotel no later than 5 depending on what form of transportation you are using.

*I would suggest making maybe a 4:50 ressie for Mama Melrose's just in case. I know it's early but just in case something happens and makes you run late it will give you more chance to make it to fantasmic.

The only part I would be concerned with possibly is the PS at Cindy's Gala Feast. Assuming you are renting a car and going straight to the Poly and can get your luggage, the car, etc and be at the hotel by 5:00 you may be doing a little bit of hurrying around to make it there by 6:20. There is always the possiblity of a line at check in, etc. I may try to push that back a little if you are concerned about having time and don't want to rush. I would definitely suggest Crystal Palace for breakfast it's great. DH and I do it every year and the food is good, the atmosphere fun, and the restaurant is beautiful. It's fun to have the characters come around as well. Your schedule sounds great, unfortunately I don't have answers to your other questions as we haven't been to Ft. Wilderness or Disney Quest.

Sounds like fun!

Don't worry about Illuminations moving to 8. Even in slower times it's never been before 9. They move it later at Christmas time sometimes but never earlier.

Jiko is at The Animal Kingdom Loge not the park and is only open for dinner.

Just curious - if you don't mind sharing, how much are budgeting for food? I have similar schedule, but doing more lunches and less breakfasts. I am planning on eating breakfast in the room most days. Is your budget for 6 people - you mentioned grandparents.

thanks

This one is difficult. Have you considered eating breakfast at Boma instead, then you can see AKL if that is your intention? Note that Boma doesn't serve lunch. And if you arrive at AK early, maybe you could ride the Safari or let the kids play in the boneyard or something like that if the first Lion King show is still a ways off. Just some thoughts. :)

Sounds like a good plan to me! I would eat an earlier dinner for the Fantasmic Package so that you will be sure to have enough time and you can always do other stuff in the park if you are done with dinner early.
If you are running late on your check-in day you can just leave your luggage with the bellmen then hop the monorail (a 10 min ride) to the GF and check-in later.

Ariel,

I don't mind sharing, but I'm afraid that I'm not really sticking to a budget very well this time. My inlaws took my husband and sister in law to Disney with their grandparents 30 years ago and have always dreamed of going back with their own grandkids. My father in law will be 70 in Dec. and, while he's not actually ill, or frail, he's slowed down quite a bit over the last few years, so we thought we'd better go ahead and do this trip while we/they still can. Hence, the sky's the limit!! No, we can't really afford it. Yes, it will be worth it.

If it were just the four of us, we would not be doing quite so many expensive meals. We've blown any semblance of a budget clear out of the water.....plus, they really want to stay at the Poly! (Where they stayed last time). eek! I'm really looking forward to such an extravagant vacation!!

If you want actual prices, you can call the disney dining line & ask (the Luau and HoopDeDoo are $50pp, for example). Or you can look at menus online. There are several good sites...do a GOOGLE search on the name of your restaurant+disney+menu. Good luck!
