I would like to start out by saying I do not post much but love these boards and all the wonderful trip reports on them so after this trip I decided to give a trip report a try! Now I know I can not compete with some of the most creative writers on these boards but I wanted to share anyway!
Our cast of character begins with me: 35 The planner, packer, obsessive reader of all things Disney, the dis and TGM.
DH - 39 lover of Disney because he loves me! Also step-father to my 4 older kids and Father to our 1 ½ yo.
DD - 12 My little NutMeg , your very typical pre-teen, moody one minute, completely lovable the next. Loves Disney and all the Princesses.
DS - 10 Moe, He got this nickname from his father after he was born because all he did was cry and moan! He is a much better child today and LOVES Stitch.
DD & DS - 8 yro twins DJ and Shannon (she never really got a nickname that stuck) start counting down the days till we go again before we even leave Disney property! This trip DJ has decided he will be Brave and try ALL the big rides! Lets see if he can do it! Shannon has already done them all and cant wait to ride EE.
And last but not least DS - 1 ½ My little puddin. He has just started to get into the Disney movies. LOVES Pooh, Buzz and Tarzan.
I want to start with a little pre-trip info. Dh had to go to Orlando for a conference on May 6. When I found this out back in Feb. it was just the reason I was looking for to book another trip to the world. Made some calls and booked us 5 days at the Poly. Got a deal that I knew he couldnt get to upset with. See, DH works for Hilton so he always wants to save the money and book with them. But right now with the puddin so little I still want to be on the monorail, which also allows me to stay at my favorite resort POLY!!!
So we are all book for May 10th - 14th. This means I will be traveling with 5 children by myself on the way down. I have never done this before and start worrying about it immediately! Shortly after we booked this trip we also find out we will have to move out of our house and into a rental for a while. We our doing some very large renovations to our house and the roof will have to come off so we must leave!
Fast forward to April and we are set to move on the 27th. I call the movers the day before because I hadnt heard from them. They dont have us on the list!!!! Now DH has to leave on the 6th, the house is almost all packed up in boxes and I have no movers! Make some calls and find another moving company. They can move us either May 8th, or May 17th. Right before or right after the vacation. I am a daring woman by nature but not insane enough to try and move a whole house, 5 kids, a dog and Cat with DH away! The 17th it is. Now DH leaves and I send him down with all the kids stuff to try and make my life a little easier on the way down. He arrives in Orlando and goes to retrieve the luggage but there is nothing to retrieve! Kids stuff and his stuff it turns out will not be arriving for a day or maybe 2. Not a good sign of things to come!As I stated earlier the house is packed up. I now 2 days before the trip have to find all my stuff to pack. Luckily it wasnt a big deal and the night before we are to go it looks like we are all set! DH had arranged a car to come get us at 5 am ( or flight was at 7:10) and all I had to do the next morning was pack the last minute things. I couldnt sleep so I was up at 3 :30 and set to go before 4 am. At that time I got the kids up and by 10 to 5 I start wondering where the car is? At 10 after 5 the phone rings. YEP, the driver calling to tell me he is lost! Now after determining where he was and how long it would take him to get to me I have two options: 1- wait for him and hope we make our flight or 2- throw all our stuff in the mini van and drive us to Newark. I chose option 2.
So we all kick it into high gear and load up the mini van. NutMeg goes to grab puddin who is still sound asleep in his crib and I grab the last of his stuff. No changing into real clothes for puddin, not even a diaper change! We can do that later! I think we flew to Newark not drove! Made great time though. Onto luggage check in and security.
We made it through all of that fine so I think we have it made now. Just get on the plane and all will be good. I have booked a seat for puddin because the thought of having to hold him the whole flight was just to scary, so we or I should say I am carrying this car seat the whole time, plus the diaper bag, carry on bag, purse and god knows what else! By the time we hit the gate I am exhausted. Moe says he will carry the car seat for his poor old mother. Bless that boy! Well, we are in row 36 and are some of the last people on the plane. Moe is a very tall boy but very skinny and not very strong. That car seat was kicking his butt by row 2! The whole way down the aisle he is saying excuse me, oh Im sorry, oops stuck! Finally we hit row 36 and we all settle in. We take off and are on our way! That should have been the end of the flight stories but as luck would have it the flight got interesting too. I had gives a bottle to puddin and he decided he didnt want anymore. So because the car seat really takes up a lot of room and the fact that NutMeg has now empty the contents of her backpack every where ( I swear she had half her room in that thing!) I just throw the bottle in my purse. It was standing up so I thought it wouldnt leak. Well pudding uses Dr. Brown bottles. Anyone familiar with them know the have a valve system in them. Well cabin pressure and the valve dont mix. I went to get some gum for the twins and got a hand full of milk. Of course my cell phone is sitting in the milk as well. Thank god for cell phone insurance.
After we landed I decided I would start to unhook the car seat to try and get that out of the way. That didnt work out as planned either. Seems as if you need a seat belt extender when using car seat. Didnt know that! The car seat is stuck in the seat and I cant get it out. The whole plane empties out and the cleaning crew comes on and the car seat is still stuck in the seat of the plane! It took myself, two crew members, and Moe to finally get the stupid thing out! It seems Moe was the only one of us who had hands small enough to fit in the back and unlatch it.
So, we finally get off the plane and head out to get my one checked bag and head over to DME. Wouldnt you know it my one checked bag was on one side of the airport and DME is all the way on the other side! Here we go again with carrying the car seat and other bags. We get to the DME counter and I breath a sigh of relief. We made it. Check us all in and head over to line up. I had left the kids at the other line with our things, so when I got back over to them we all grab some things and start to move. NutMeg has puddin and the stroller so I bend down to get the beast of a car seat and the one thing that can embarrass me the most happens. Just a little side not here to say most us mommies know you never really buy ourselves new things. We are all wearing the same pants for years but the kids have new stuff all the time. Same shoes same pants, shorts, you name we probably have had it all for years so things get worn out right? On to my most embarrassing moment. My pants split right down the butt! And of course this day I am wearing a bright pink thong to add insult to injury! I grab the back of my shirt and pull it down as far as it can go and loudly call NutMeg to stop and get me jacket out of the bottom of the stroller. As most moms of pre- teen girls or boys for that matter know they don not listen very well. I think their hearing starts to mute out parents around 10 or 11, but on this particular day she looked and me and moved very quickly to get it. It must have been the look on my face that did it. It was something between anger and crying because at this point I dont think it could get worse!
I quickly tie the jacket around my waist and head into the line with the rest of my waiting children who are completely clueless as to what just took place. Now I am a wreck, ( side note and no flames please, Myself and DH are smokers. We are very consiterate smokers. We DO NOT walk around the parks smoking or smoke in places we shouldnt. But with 5 kids this is my vice and I will be quitting soon) and havent had a cigarette, the kids are starting to bicker some wick they hadnt done all morning and puddin is sick to death of the car seat/stroller. So I head out to try and call DH and grab a quick smoke. I no sooner got out and here comes our bus! HOORAY!!! I am still trying to call DH as we load up but for some reason, even though I had full a full signal he couldnt hear me. Odd I thought. Well, that ok I will call him when we arrive at Poly! He is never going to believe all of this when I tell him!
Up next, check - in, the cell phone that couldnt, and puddins over heating at Le Cellier
with a very grumpy old man
.
I also want to add it may take me a few days to get this second part up because as I said we are moving out today. As I type this I am surrounded by boxes and the movers will be here soon. Will get part two up as soon as I have the internet back. In advance thanks for reading my ramblings.
