So, now dh is mad that I'm taking a vacation...we could use the $ for the refrigerator. How was I supposed to know that it was going to quit??? I'm only 24 days out...<sigh>. Even if I cancel, I'd lose $200, right? I only paid less than $700 for the vacation. I don't want to cancel :sad1:
What would you do? We can come up with the $ for the refrigerator, I think dh is just trying to make me feel guilty:(

if the trip is paid for and you would lose the deposit...go!!!

You said you can find the money for a fridge elsewhere....not sure where the problem is for hubby other than maybe he is jealous that you get to go and he doesn't!!

sorry but sound slike your dh is being a baby
my dh would do the same thing !!!!!
if you are gonna lose $ by not going then go
that doesnt make sense to lose money not to go

lol, he doesn't like me to go as much as I do (which is normally once a year, just happens to be twice this year because I had a class in April, but was w/o any family members). Anyhow, I saved change, sold stuff on ebay and never touched our budget once. Yes, he is being a big baby...and I think he'll be ok, once I'm down there for a couple of days and he mellows out a bit. I hope anyway...I would think he'd just say "have a great birthday!" to me....oh well...

As for the refrigerator, Sears is having a 0% interest sale going on right now and we would have it paid off by February anyway, so, I'm not sure why he keeps complaining...

You probably *could* move your trip to a different time without losing your deposit, couldn't you? Not that you should, just that it's possible. ;)

Actually, I just got off the phone with him and told him he's not going to make me feel guilty for going and told him about the 0% financing thing through sears...he was quiet for a minute and said, Ok, I guess we'll go to Sears this weekend then:) No mention of the trip:)
He really knows how to make me feel guilty when he wants me too though.

men tell us we can make them feel guilty :teeth:

but men are the originators of guilt!!! :rotfl:

That is awful- you had no idea that the fridge would die & that is what emergency funds are for - if you paid for your trip by scrimping & saving, then that is your trip & not paid from household funds- go to Sears & enjoy your trip!

It is my guess that this may not be of interest to you...as far as the refrigerator goes for now, but in the future it may help you with some other things.

There is a national network of recycling that is available right down to your county/city. It is www.freecycle.com and is a totally free neighborly set up. Just do follow the rules, which are explained right up front.

Here in Iowa City I see used refrigerators (and used washer/dryers) all the time. I have used this site to get used luggage (a whole set of soft-sided wheeled, dark green luggage, gently used) that someone else had no use for...and I also have dug up (from a donor's yard) several great bushes and other plants for our yard. One was so happy to get rid of a bridal bush without having to hire someone to remove it, and I was so happy to receive it (divided it into 10 new bushes for a will-be hedge at our house), we just grinned at each other! There really is no limit to what can be offered/received in this venue.

Our family has given away several bicycles (some in good condition and some in "needs to be fixed" condition and some outgrown outdoor play equipment in excellent condition. Other families have offered older computers and computer parts...the list goes on and on...

You might want to check this out.

my mom lives in NH up in gilford where are you from ?

I'm not sure what replacing the fridge has to do with taking your vacation...

Look at the bright side. If your fridge was fairly old, 10 years or more, you will likely save more in electricity over the next couple of years than it will cost to buy the new one.

Enjoy your vacation AND your new refrigerator.

I'll second the freecycle group...even if it won't help with the fridge right now it's a great group...you never know what someone might need that is collecting dust at your house!!

We were able to receive clothes for our oldest before school started...all name brand, all nearly new, all fit.....saved me a ton of money and she was thrilled. The freecycler we got these from is now in need of a bike which we have just waiting for her!! Great way to recycle!!

He was trying to get me to cancel in hopes of taking the vacation $ I saved up for towards the refrigerator....even though we don't need to do that...

Actually I am a member of freecycle, no luck yet with a refrigerator, but that's ok. I actually just got a treadmill and a bed for my son on freecycle. I've offered a few things as well:)

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I should have known a thrifty fellow "sister" from New Hampshire might already know about freecycle!

I always think of New Hampshire and Iowa as "sister states" because of the presidential primaries...and because the people from NH that I've met are so much like our family in temperament lol!

Sorry to hear about your fridge, ours went belly-up this summer too- 5 yrs and 4 months old, of course w/ a 5 year warranty.

Whatever you get don't get a GE fridge! They actually had the temerity to tell us 'we make the best refridgerators in the world' Right. I guess thier competitors only last 5 yrs and 2 months?? :)

They did agree, after much angry calling, to give us a new compressor, as long as we paid them to install it, still cost a bunch. That kind of thing can really kill a budget, unfortuneatley for us, that was the cheapes thing that went bad this summer.

Hope you can find a good deal on a new one.
