Okay, so call me a weenie....

There was a break in the rain when we arrived Thursday. We were in site 1729, right across from the comfort station. I could not believe all the standing water everywhere....it looked like a swamp.

Yesterday, (Friday) we enjoyed the pool, the dog park, looping in the cart.....then around lunchtime, it started to pour. My First Up leaked, in spite of the weatherproofing I had done. So, we headed over to DTD for a little retail therapy and ducked in and out of the shops, avoiding the downpour as much as possible.

Around 6ish, came back to the campsite and was thrilled to see the Mouseketab in the site next to our's. :goodvibes Carol, it was great meeting you!

After a few short words with Carol, I went to check on the tents. Somehow, there was a tear in my daughter's tent. I don't know how it happened, and had not noticed it there earlier. I had some repair tape, and was going to try to fix it. Then I looked inside and saw how the rain had poured in, her pillow, sleeping bag, etc.....all soaked. Then I checked my son's tent....same thing there, no tear or anything, but water puddled up in the tent and everything was wet. At that point, I was just frustrated and gave up. I was talking to a friend on the phone, and told him I was going home. lol.

So, I am sorry that I didn't get to meet more Dis'ers. I am bummed the weather was so lousy and we didn't get to do all the stuff we were looking forward to doing. However, I am chalking this one up to experience. I hope you guys have a great time! And maybe I can meet up with you guys on the next trip.

Hello fellow weenie,:rolleyes1
I am so sorry to hear about the trip,,I'm not sure what we would have done,,but what happened to ya'll could sure throw a damper on the trip.
From what we have been hearing, Florida or cental Florida has pretty much turned into a rain forest during the monsoon season lately.
But at least you got to meet Carol. I have only had the privilege of talk'n to her on the boards,,but the wife has met her,,and really enjoyed her.

Well,,I reck'n it's time to start plan'n the next trip. :thumbsup2

That just stinks! Nothing like packing, setting up camp, getting drenched, packing back up and going home!:headache: Sorry!! See you're from FL though so hopefully you didn't drive too far.

I am going to my parents' house in FL the end of June and will be doing some fishin'. I've made myself a note to send you pictures!:thumbsup2

I'd love to fish with ya'll,, that'd be great.

The rain here has been incredibly drenching. I can't imagine dealing with that amount of wetness in a tent. We've had some good luck and bad, with park visits and such, on our vacation so far here. Today began with very good luck - arriving at the pool just as a small rain hit (and thinned out the crowds) to have four hours of sun, warmth, and great swimming. We went back to the camper, had an early dinner, and decided to take a visit to MK. The sky was blue when we headed for the docks, and we noticed very black sky in the distance, as we got on the boat. By the time the boat arrived, our good fortune for the day had expired. It rained torrentially for the next two hours. We were thoroughly soaked. The kids were cold. We gave up and headed back to camp :sad1:. Its been like that all week. Great fun, often followed or preceded by miserable soakings.

Last Sunday night we watched Illuminations is a down pour - great show - unfortunately they canceled the last Jose Feliciano show and the one before that they stopped before the end - but at least we saw a little.

How awful that you had to leave!! The first time we camped in a tent it poured down rain. It didn't leak but everything was very muddy. It seemed like it has rained almost every day of May here, our yard has never dried out. Last year we were in a drought and this year everything is flooding!!

We will by there in July so maybe it will stop raining by then! I hope you get to go back soon and finish your trip:)

That is how we ended up with a popup, we tented for a few years then one trip to the beach with three days of rain and everything was soaked. Spent one night in a hotel to dry out and decided the we needed to get off the ground. The follwing year we were in a popup. Hope your next trip is better.

Yep, even at the Fort, tent camping can be difficult. In the rain even if the tent is zipped up tight, everything gets damp. A night or 2, OK, but after that UGH. Especially if you have little ones. Tented all my life til a year ago. Now, with the popup, camping is awesome. Actually, it's does seem it should be called camping, it's more like outdoor luxury living. :thumbsup2

Hey I remember him !! He had a really big hit , long time ago !! Something about flea's,,yeah,
that it,,"Flea's Mom I Got",,a really good song !:thumbsup2

Holy Cow!!! We were in 1734 & also arrived Thursday!! I wish I knew you were there. Did you see poor Cheryl & Carol setting up in the rain on Friday? Of course - just as they were checking in the skies let loose!

We came home this afternoon because DH received a call from his boss asking if he could come into work at 8am tomorrow instead of 11am. Uh....let's see....he's the new kid at work so he's going to say "no"? We left around 3:30 & when we got home (30 miles away) the skies opened up again. Oh well....we had plenty of beer last night at the "mini" GG. Never did see BigKahuna1 - don't know if he ended up cancelling or was just hiding from the rest of us. Saw Jim & "Jello Shot Denise" this morning for a bit. They thought because of the rain we cancelled the party. HA!!! We were a small but hearty group! Tig & Taz (Matt & Cheryl), Chris & Jen, Rick & Carol, Me, Lornaduck & her DH (discovered we had a lot in common). I gave up at midnight, so did Jen, I guess Chris and the rest partied on until the wee hours!! :thumbsup2 We toasted everyone who couldn't be there, so you were remembered!!

Carol will have incriminating pictures later this week. :rolleyes1

Glad I am not the only one. lol. I had really been looking forward to meeting some of the folks on these boards, this is such a great group. But, I know there will be other opportunities. The rain has been crazy, we have had something like 14 consecutive days of rain. Unheard of. We will try again in October.

Sorry!! See you're from FL though so hopefully you didn't drive too far.

Thanks. It's only an hour drive for us, so it could have been worse. lol.

I SO want a pop up!!! lol.

I know! It would have been great to meet you, we probably walked right past each other. LOL. I didn't have any computer access while over there. And just before I left, I went to print out my site marker that Rog made and dangit, my printer was out of ink. :( I will have to plan better for next time.

I didn't see Carol until after she was all set up. We were at DTD hiding from the rain from around 2ish until 6pm. I am so glad you guys are having fun!

We did spend the day yesterday playing on Disney property. My sister and her family had planned on visiting us while we were staying at the Fort. So we drove back up together, went on a pressed penny hunt, and checked out the arcades at the various resorts. When the rains hit yesterday, and we saw all the people leaving the parks drenched, I was glad I wasn't going back to a tent last night! LOL.

I either need a better tent or I will wait and look into buying a pop up next year. My kids and I definitely have Fort fever and we will be back one way or another.

Enjoy your Memorial Day! It is sunny here this morning, hopefully it is clear for you guys there too.

Start looking on-line for a pop-up or hybrid, cause it sounds like you'll be doing a lot of "Forting" in the days & years ahead!

Sorry I missed you. I need to make a sign for the windshild of the MH so I'm a little more "identify-able"!

When we pulled in on Fri, we were in site 1725. There was a tent next to us and I thought that was you. By the time I got around to coming over they were gone.
We had a great time despite the rain. It was so nice to meet everyone that did show up. Great talking with all. Des I am so sorry we didn't get to say goodbay I had a great time with you. I will pm you my DH business name and number.
We stayed up to about 1:30 Sat night, I must have been having fun Or to much to drink because that is way past my bedtime.
If all goes well we will be able to do it again July 4th.
Our MH stayed dry thru all the rain, but on the way home one of the water hose's sprung a leek. The carpet and under where my water heater is, is very wet. We can't figure out which one it is and I am afraid to run water because it goes all over the place. We had this happen once before and thought it was fixed. May have to call the repair man. It has to work before our next trip.

We arrived at the Fort on Sat. and left for home this afternoon after a hot time at Animal Kingdom. Both evenings were pretty soggy. We were placed in the 1100 loop (don't know what happened to the rest of the MDGG...didn't see any other lime green signs except in the 1700 loop when we went looping). We had cable at our site in 1100 which was a plus. My sister & Mom opted to go to a suite at the Comfort Inn instead of tenting it. Just too wet!

We were in the 1900 loop. Our sign was destroyed by mother nature so it was only up for a couple of days. I need to find a better way to display it. Im thinking of a magnetic thing.

It took me a full day to realize we had cable hook up. I was wondering how everyone else was getting such a perfect picture and we could barely get anything. Then I noticed the cable box. DUH. I thought cable wasnt offered in the full hook up loops.

Was it the weather that made the Fort look like a ghost town? Never have I seen it so empty as last week! :confused3 Too bad that first timers saw the Fort under the rainy circumstances we had for the entire week. Usually we get some breaks in the weather. Wednesday morning seemed like the start of a gorgeous day. We were at Epcot and not a cloud in the sky while we were in Future World. Then while we enjoyed lunch outside in Mexico we began feeling a few sprinkles then all of a sudden WHOOSH the torrents returned and stayed the rest of the day. Our small van camper begins to feel quite cramped when the 4 of us are all wet and miserable. YUCK!

So sorry to hear about your tent problems! Our first camping trip to FL we were in tents and ended up at the Comfort Inn cause we had over 2 inches of water in our tent!!!

When we moved down here- I packed away the tents and got a Pup- I wasnt about to go through any more FL storms in a tent- though our roof is leaking so I still had water issues this trip :confused3 Oh well cant win 'em all!

Yikes! - 2 inches inside your tent? My tent is an Ozark trail 3 in 1. It has the bath tub type floor. I have water proofed all the seams. But, somehow, the rain still comes in. I can't figure out where it came from but I know it's coming from the top or the walls, and not seeping in from the ground. I am going to guess maybe it's coming in under the rain fly because of the wind?

My brother-in-law told me I should have just thrown visqueen over the whole tent. Oh well, live and learn. If nothing else, I now know that I truly do love camping....but just not in the rain.
