Just back from our quick weekend trip to the World! Left Providence via Southwest on Thursday, 8/20/01. Flight was non-eventful. Landed in Orlando--beautiful, sunny weather greeted us!
Our Tiffany Towncar driver, Ali, was waiting for us at baggage claim. Very pleasant person. He filled us in on the third Universal park in the works. He said they were just starting to clear the land. Anyway, we arrived safely at the Grosvenor Resort. It was only about 11:00 a.m., but our room was ready. The lobby at this hotel is nice--nothing spectacular, but nice. The front desk personnel were also pleasant and helpful.
Our room was, well, sort of what I expected, I guess. Keep in mind that I got this room through Priceline, so I had absolutely no expectations. There was a 4-cup coffeemaker, hair dryer, iron and board, and refrigerator that made a very high pitched whining noise. We turned it off since we weren't planning to use it, anyway. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and we were able to sleep very well every night. The room was clean, but small. We were on the second floor, facing the parking lot. Oops, no soap--that's o.k. I brought my own!
Headed over to Downtown Disney Marketplace and had lunch at Wolfgang Puck Express. Very nice pasta! We took off to MGM and got fastpasses for Who Wants to be a Millionaire. rode The Great Movie Ride, RnR, and ToT. We walked onto RnR and ToT. The sign said 15 minutes wait for each, but the wait was no where near that long. We had a longer wait at Great Movie Ride. Who Wants to be a Millionaire was a blast! Neither of us made it to the hotseat, but still had a great time.
Had dinner at Baskerville's. The buffet was o.k. Nothing to write home about. We decided that since it we'd been up since 4:00 a.m., and since it was Thursday (Big Brother night!), we'd stay in. Couldn't find Big Brother, a football game was on instead, so I went to sleep.
It was a good first day! Can't wait for tomorrow!
