This is the first part of my "get away from it all" and partly spontaneous trip to Orlando. Sorry if it is extreamly detailed, but I am an aspiring writer and the simplest story can turn into War and Peace sometimes.
Hurricane Francis hit just north of us on the Treasure Coast (we live in PBC) and frankly, I was worried that my trip to NoJ I had been planning for, like, EVER was going to be ruined. I was stuck in my house with the family waiting for this thing to hit already and I was worried that if it hit too late, Night of Joy would have been cancelled!! Needless to say, it wasn't, but the same worries about missing school came back to me because I really couldn't afford to do that my senior year. I am also in a play and if the play practices we missed during the hurricane were on the days I was supposed to go, then I would have been in a real pickle. THEN I found out the school was cancelled for the whole week that I was planning to go! The worry I had had for the entire trip planning process was gone. In fact, since my mom was a teacher, she decided to take me and my aunt to USO a day before we were supposed to go to ASMo for NoJ!! It was a great chance to get away from long gas lines, supermarket lines that went to the back of the store, my unrecognizable development, curfews, unoperational stoplights, etc. (sorry for the venting, but its hard to help since this is my first real hurricane. I probably should tell my hurricane stroies on another board, but Francis was a huge part of this trip.)
We stayed at the Portofino at USO for 99 bucks as a special rate for hurricane victims!! Since this is a WDW board, I'll talk about the Disney trip (NOTHING beats WDW in my opinion anyway) Me and my aunt left my mom and my sister after one night at USO so that they could stay one more night there. We, however, were headed for two nights at ASMo. I being a kid at heart loved it. we stayed in the Love Bug building and it caught my fancy as being SOOOO CUTE!! When we got there, we immediatly started getting ready for that night's (Thursday's) NoJ preformances in our room. After eating in their food court (which was very good by the way) we got on a bus to the Magic Kingdom.
The NoJ preformances didn't start 'till 7:30 and we got there at 5:30,so we decided to enjoy the rides. There was barely anybody there, so we decided to take advantage of it. We went on POTC BY OURSELVES. It was quite an experiance being alone in the first ghost part. Me and my aunt were hanging on to each other from the very beginning right through the drop. We would have gone on more rides, but my aunt had a huge appitite that night, so we didn't have time for much else.
The first preformance we saw was Jars of Clay at the castle, and they were AWESOME. The thing I noticed was that tonight was less crowded than usual, probably because of the hurricane but also because it was Thurday and not many youth groups could go that day. It also began to moderatly rain and kept up that pace for most if not all of the night. But they were smart this year. Last year there were no tents up so a lot of preformances were delayed because of rain, but this year they never took them down. I also liked how the Orlando Chritian DJs who introduced the preformers as well as the preformers themselves said they were doing relief work for the double hurrcane victims, so I thought that was cool. Anyways, we also saw Mark Shultz, who was really good. He was also preforming in the only theater with seats, so that was refreashing. We also saw my all-time fave Michael W. Smith (see my avatar
) It was cute though. He asked us why we think it rains every time he goes to NoJ, and he also asked us if we were doing ok out there in the rain. My fave thing he does though, is when he leans over his piano like Schroader (sp?). My friend who's also a Smitty fan goes ga-ga over that.
After his preformance, we decided to head back to the hotel because we were very tired. I was dying to ride the monrail (I can practically recite all of the dialouge because of it being drilled in my head as a child) and I thought you could get to our hotel from the TATC. I was wrong.
We ended up having to take ANOTHER monorail that went through the resorts to get back to the Magic Kingdom and then take a bus back to our hotel. This was quite a trek for two very exhausted people. Whew! Well, after we got back to our hotel, we went to bed and prepared for my friend to join us the next day. (To be Continued)
