The front door won't open, suddenly. We got it to open once and got the game out but now we can't get it open agian. Has this happened to anyone before?

I bought Derek a new game for Christmas and he loved it but barely got to play it.....

Is it fairly new or did you buy it when it first came out? I bought my PS2 when it first came out and I'm having problems with it. My brother (who used to fix game systems) says that the originals started crapping out early. They corrected whatever problems with the next batch but if you have an older one that may be why it's acting up.
Mine won't load PS2 games or DVDs. It will only play old Playstation games. So I basically have a $300 PS1.

My cousin has recently had problems with it scanning the games. He took it to a repair place and heard the same as Julie said, the older ones give out pretty quickly!!

Ours is two years old, it gave out and DH and my DS fixed it with info I found online. Let me try to find it and post it for you. It may not be tonight, I'm pretty tired!

Ok first they took it apart and cleaned it, blew the dust out etc. I think I just put in a google search for how to clean a Playstation 2. Then I found this online forum that helped us figure out how to clean it, we didn't use the compressed air, just a brush and lot of blowing:

Then it still wasn't working I found this forum:

Gameconsole repair.com on ezboard.

The post that was most helpful was titled:This will fix 99 percent of ALL disk read errors. I know my DH said this was the problem, a small white, geared wheel the size of a quarter. Something to do with adjusting that. If you don't get the info. you need from this forum, IM me and I'll try to get more details out of him. Good luck, ours works great now.

See I"m so tired I didn't even read your post -- there are other details on that board about fixing a drawer when it won't open. Our problem was it wouldn't read the disks. I've also heard the older versions are having problems.

I am not proud to admit it, but we have gone through more than one PS2. I ALWAYS ALWAYS, get the extended warranty. It costs a few bucks, and if ANYTHING goes wrong with it, you can bring it back, no questions asked (I had to do it once).

Thank you for the post. Luckily my wife reads the posts and she recognized the symptoms we were having with our Playstation2.

We followed you're link and it works. This saved us a $200 replacement because Santa was good to the kids with games.

Thank You

March of 2003 I had problems with my PS2 reading games with a purple color to the disc. I did an online search of the problem and found that the company will do the repair for free. You just have to call the company and tell them about it. I sent my game system in to the company back in October (I forgot about sending it) and they repaired it and it works great! Just make sure you keep the confirmation # for the repair for when you send it in.
