Our Pinewood Derby

I was bragging to everyone in our Tiger Pack that my Dad was helping my DS to make his car and that my Dad has never lost a Pinewood Derby. I neglected to tell them that my brother was only ever in 2 races and that the last race they won was 25 years ago.

Well, wouldn't you know, history repeated itself and my DS came home with a trophy for fastest Tiger car and he came in second place overall in the pack when he raced against the Bears, Wolves, Webelo I & IIs. When we got home, he put the trophy right onto our fireplace so everyone who comes into our house can see it.

The nicest thing that the pack leader did for the kids with the slowest car was to race them against a pack car that they purposely made to be very slow so that everyone won at least one race.

Congratulations to your Son and also to your Dad! My DS alson won 1st place in the Tiger Division (he is now preparing for his Eagle Scout Board of Review!) We still have that trophy, with the car perched on top it, prominently displayed!

Congrats! Over the years, both of my DS's have won either 1st or 3rd place, so we've got trophies, too. This year was DS 11's last year to race, and he came in maybe 6th or so.

Oh, did we have the neat cars! One looked like SpongeBob, a couple of Spiderman cars. But my absolute favorite: someone raced the box the derby car came in! They had to scan it and reduce it to fit the block of wood, put on some wheels, and it did pretty well. Didn't win the race, but it DID win best of show for that rank.

Congratulations on the win. It's really exciting to watch the cars race. The kids (and parents) really get into it.

Our race will be in a couple of weeks. DS8 is busy working on his car. DH is also busy working on his car as well as DS2's car. There is a pre-race the night before the real race when these can run.

Last year, our pack gave our 4 trophies for speek, 4 for design and 4 ribbons. With 12 boys in the Tigers, everyone walked away with something. It was wonderful to see the boys all acknowledged and even though they didn't come in 1st, 2nd, etc. they were able to take something home to be proud of. It was wonderful.
