Our only day in MK and it's supposed to pour rain, help!

We're headed to FL later this week for a relative's wedding and after we are spending one day in Disney at the MK. After suffering through this long, hard, cold winter (we are in the middle of yet another snowstorm right now!) I have been dreaming of this one day for months. And now the weather forecast shows an 85% chance of heavy rain all day with a total accumulation of 1 inch of rain. It's not until next Monday so I know the forecast can change between now and then and I'm hoping with all my might that it will, but help me prepare in case it doesn't!

What do we even wear? It's supposed to be 75 which feels too cold for shorts, but the idea of wearing wet jeans all day seems just as awful as freezing cold wet legs. I've got a 3 yo and a 7 yo, we were going to bring a single stroller with a rain cover, do I plan to rent a double citi mini so my older one can be dry too? They are both far too small for ponchos and I don't know that they would be enough in that much rain anyways. What do you wear in the parks when it pours all day and it's not hot out?

Just to hopefully ease your mind It's a week away as you said, even if the predictions are correct It could very well be raining in DHS and not in MK or raining in EC and not in AK I see it all the time Weather reports can't predict for each park, just the general area All you can really do is plan but not get upset

Don't pay attention to advanced predictions in Florida. By the time your day rolls around, it is likely to be very different. ….and of course, a day of rain in Disney World is better than a day of sun anywhere else! IMHO.:dance3:

Edit: Nevermind... I thought this post was referring to today.

First, don't worry too much - you'll ruin your dreamed-of vacation! :goodvibes

If you or the little ones have yoga pants or stretchy pants, even sweatpants, that would probably be good. They would dry fairly quickly when you're in a show or even extended periods in the stores, and even if they don't dry they shouldn't be too clingy or heavy to be irritating. Bring another pair in a ziploc baggie to keep them dry for each child (and maybe the adults too!). Throw some extra socks in with those pants, too; unless you're planning on sandals.

Do you have raincoats for the little ones by chance? If not, you still have time to buy one or two if a poncho wouldn't work.

Best thing about that forecast is that it might keep the crowds away! You could have the best day in MK that you've ever had if the forecast keeps up!

The forecast is likely to change so don't fret.

We've had a few very rainy days in MK. Ours were in Sept so I know that it is warmer then. However, some of these tips will work for you, too. We got those elastic headbands, not ponytail holders, headbands. They worked great as we put them over our poncho hoods to keep them in place. Another good tip is wearing a baseball cap under the hood. We also used the elastic bands around our kids waists to "blouse up" the ponchos to make them shorter so our children would not trip.

Bring extra socks and an extra pair of shoes for other dates of your trip. We found sandals to work best on our rainy days in the MK, but we were there during a warmer month. Wonder if yours could handle comfy galoshes for a day. Mine aren't blister prone so I don't know.

Tomorrow land with TTA, buzz, and carousel of progress were great rainy weather spots for us. With the ages of your children, they'll love those for a couple of hours.

We never used a stroller even when ours were 6 &4 on our first trip so I don't have much advice for that. It might be worth considering though if you think it will keep them both dry while you get them from one park area to another.

I would wear a jacket that has windbreaker material on the outside to keep the rain from your skin. I would wear lightweight pants (no jeans) that dry faster....probably not shorts. Of course I don't even wear shorts in September so I might not be qualified to offer an opinion on shorts.

You'll have a great day.....wishes for a change in weather forecast between now and then. :)

Thanks all, I know it can and hoping it will change, but feeling stressed as we leave Thursday and anything I'd need to order has to happen today as far as raincoats, etc.

We went and January and we had a lot of rain. But good news is most of the attractions are inside so just dodge the rain drops.

the forecast could still change. And I'll take rain in Disney over sun anywhere else

I agree with hat under poncho helps keep rain off face. Also extra socks!!!! If its warm enough I would have worn sandals but at 60s I had sneakers on. I wore jeans but made sure they were not dragging on the ground but yoga or leggings are good too if you again don't let them touch the ground.

Good luck and have fun!!!! Don't let the rain ruin it for u!!!

If you end up needing them, just get the Disney ponchos in the park. They work great and you can fold them really, really small. We've used them at home on several occasions! I wouldn't buy special rain gear.

If it's rainy, I'd probably wear something even more casual than jeans--like a moisture-wicking running tight or whatnot.

We were at Disney for SWW last year when a post-Andrea storm hit. It was disappointing that most of the characters had to go in (and HyperSpace Hoopla was cancelled) but we just put on our ponchos and had a great time. And this was a major, drenching rain storm that lasted for hours. After going through that and having such a great time, it's now my fantasy to actually be in the MK on a rainy day...I'd love to be in that park when it's not crowded.

I love rainy days at the parks. especially magic kingdom. Most people are there multiple days and leave if it rains, or cut their day really short. Which means the parks will be far less crowded and you can do more. just try to stay our of the stores and restaurants, cause people hang out there for the rains to pass. If it does rain all day by 8 pm the parks are like ghost towns.
I try to look at the brights side, since after all you are at Disney world!

I go for "tech" fabric type clothing if I know that I will be wet for hours. I dress in things you might find in the camping section at Dicks or Sports Authority. Sandals/Crocs are a must and socks can be kept in ziploc bags. I have a pair of wind pants that unzip at the knees. Keeping warm can be a challenge because even when it's cool the air conditioning will still be running. Drink warm liquids. Keep heads covered, a lot of heat escapes from the head.

You might need a plan to dry all your stuff for the morning. Running a load through the laundry while everyone is at the pool can help. Many resorts have laundry near the pool. Newspapers stuffed in shoes will wick water from shoes.

I just looked at the forecast. It's showing dry or only slight chance of rain for at least the 3 days prior to your Monday MK visit. After that is several days of high rain chance. That tells me a front is expected to come through next week. In 10 days, that front can:

  • Slow down and not arrive until Tuesday or Wednesday
  • Not go as far south as the current models are forecasting - thus missing Orlando
  • Fizz out before reaching Florida
  • Speed up and come through earlier (not likely)
  • Stay on it's current track

That's a lot of variables. The recommendation for using Mickey Ponchos is a good one. Disney has done their homework in providing a poncho that is just right for touring a theme park in the rain.

The weather people can't even get tomorrow's forecast right - I wouldn't worry about NEXT Monday yet.

I agree with the others -- do NOT sweat a long term forecast, it changes often.

But I do have one question for you. You are from NJ, and 75 degrees isn't shorts weather? :goodvibes It sure is for us from Ohio! Even if it's cool in the evening, we stay in shorts and add a sweatshirt (or rain jacket if needed!).

Best of luck, I will be down there with a group next week, so I also hope the weather forecast is incorrect. But if not, we just deal with whatever happens.

They have smaller sized Disney ponchos and raincoats on Amazon. You may be able to find them to fit. I would put my kids in athletic nylon "swishy" pants. I don't know the official name, but thats what DS calls them haha! I have also seen rain pants for kids too. I think Frogg Toggs makes some (also on Amazon).

No lines when it's raining. We rode Dumbo in the rain when my boys were 5. We still talk about it to this day!! Ponchos and all. Wet shoes were not fun to walk in so the next rain forecast we shoot for flip flops if it's going to be warm. Don't stress.. Try to make the best of it!! :thumbsup2 Good luck and here's to wishing you sunny warm weather!!!!

This is a great attitude to have! :thumbsup2

We had rain on our Magic Kingdom day (middle of December...a few years back). The low crowds made it the best day of the entire trip!

We are going to be there this Sat for a week, so this got me thinking about what we are going to do, too. I just looked on Amazon thanks to the other poster mentioning that, and they do have a bunch of ponchos and rain coats to choose from. I ended up getting the froggie one for the kids and you can choose one or two day shipping. :)

Frogg Toggs have the best rain-gear. It is so lightweight, so it doesn't make you sweat and is easy to carry around if the rain stops. My rain pants have zipper slit pockets, so I can reach through them to my regular pants.

The only thing I don't like is the jacket doesn't have a brim, but it is still so much better than a poncho.

For me, rain pants are the key. I'm much happier with a wet top than a wet bottom.

We went last April. It was pouring when we landed at MCO around 4 but I figured it would be one of those short lived downpours. Nope. We went to EMH at MK and it poured most of the night. I didn't even think to pack ponchos and I didn't want to buy them from the park so we got soaked. It wasn't the weather I imagined (we went the April before then and it was BEAUTIFUL the day we arrived) but we wound up having an amazing time.
