Our old cat might be slipping.....

Micky is 19. Today I ran the kids around and then went to the gym--when I got home DH had all of our bedding on the laundry room floor. She had peed on our bed.
Now this doesn't seem like her. She gets around fine. She sleeps a lot but her appetitie is fine. She can go up and down stairs and even jumps on the washer to eat (food bowl is on the washer so dog doesn't eat the cats' food). DH is saying "you better get yourself ready in case she keeps this up; we can't have her peeing all over the place." Heck I think I'd be ready to an extent, I've never had a cat live this long. Is it possible that she is OK physically but getting senile?

There are a lot of things this could be, besides senility. She may very well have a UTI. If she were my cat, I would get her to the vet and have some bloodwork & urinalysis if she does this again.
Keep us posted!

One of our cats is 17 years old and is only skin and bones. We really do fear for her considering her condition and brought her to the vet. The vet told us she is as healthy as a horse and you could tell because of their teeth. I would suggest bringing your cat to a vet just to get things cleared up. You don't want a cat doing that all over the house...the smell is just unlike any other and very difficult to get out! lol. Did you change anything around in the house? Do you have other cats? Maybe the dog or any other animals you have are starting to be too much for her. If not that, maybe it is just a phase. Our 17 y/o went through something like that and after a week or so she was back to normal. It could be something she ate accidently...

Wow! 19! What a good long life she's had so far.

I'd get her checked out by a vet. This could be a sign that something's wrong. I had a cat live to be 21+ years. She ended up with kidney disease and would urinate in odd places. Age plays a big factor but in your cat's case, it could be something that can be cured. Better safe than sorry.

I took my 20ish (she's not saying) cat to the vet tonight because I think she has a UTI. They're doing blood and urine analysis. They gave me an antibiotic. She's also skin and bones. I fear that she doesn't have all that much time left. But she's alert, eats and is still socialble. But I did catch her peeing outside of the box at the bottom of the basement steps. She did this the last time she had a UTI. The antibiotics cured her before.

Since cats seem to be more prone to UTIs and kidney issues, I'd probably take her to the vet and have her checked out.

My SILs cat started this, and my BIL, who is not an animal lover, but more of an animal tolerater, was all set to put it down. I suggested taking it to the vet, where indeed, he did have a UTI which was cleared up with antibiotics.

When an animal suddenly exhibits an unusual or out-of-character behavior, there is generally a reason. They really are, for the most part, creatures of habit.

I hope she's ok. My oldest kitties are 12 and 13. Skinny, but eat well, vet says they are healthy.

We just lost our cat, Daily, to chronic renal failure. She was only 7, but this is fairly common for all cats. She has always urinated outside her litterbox, so much so that we had to get her her own box (we have another cat) and keep her in the basement, only letting her up while we were home and could keep an eye on her. She literally ruined a corner of the carpet in our newly constructed house. Ugh. I miss her, but I don't miss that!

Hopefully, your cat just has a UTI. I can't believe she's lived so long! That gives me hope for Porkfat (our other kitty). :grouphug:

My sister's cat started doing that when she was the same age. It was also a UTI. Get the poor baby checked out and KUDOS to you for being the reason Micky made it to 19!! :thumbsup2
