Our newfound love of SSR

We have stayed more times at our 1st home resort SSR, but the past few years, we were finding it difficult with two kids, so we've been staying closer to parks for the majority of our trip, and staying at SSR for 1 or 2 nights here or there. In this same respect, we are now finding Animal Kingdom Lodge to be a struggle with kids, especially now that we won't have a car, so we have cancelled that for this year.

This trip a few weeks ago, we stayed at SSR for our entire 6 days (that's unheard of for us as we are split stay freaks!), and we loved it! The crowds were nasty at the parks, so it was nice to come home to familiar territory. SSR is so beautiful and very well kept and we are so glad we re-connected in such a positive way!

We kept our minds open to the travel times, and we realized SSR is actually in a great central location to the parks. We have been driving the last 4 years, and have had our own car, as hubby loves driving around WDW, but we are going back to flying as it's a bit easier. So, we paid attention to travel times, routes, etc. and realized it's no problem. We are really roughing it in the summer as well, as we just cancelled our rental car, and will be taking the busses to and from SSR for the 5 days we are there in July - then we move to BWV for the remaining 7 days. Hopefully, we'll do ok with the busses from SSR, as we have never really used the busses much. In 14 trips for me, most of them have been with a car, busses a few times, monorails, or walking to and from parks.

We are looking so forward to seeing SSR in the summer - our DD is beyond excited to go swimming in Donald's pool with her baby brother who turns 3 on this trip as well. So, we are going to T-Rex for him as his birthday is on July 4th, so we love that we'll be so close to Downtown Disney.

So, any of you have a newfound love for a resort that you missed? Tiger :)

That's wonderful! We stayed at SSR for 6 days last year and LOVED every minute of it! We had no car and found the buses to be great!

We stayed at SSR in January. This was our second stay at SSR and we enjoyed it even more than our first time. It is beautifully themed and proximity to DTD can't be beat. I also agree that it is a great location if you will be visiting ALL of the parks.

I can't wait to see the new pool area when it is finished. I think that will put SSR back on the map (for those who took it off)!!

We just spent 4 nights at SSR in the Springs section. This was a non-theme park trip for us so the location just couldn't have been any better. We did have a car and used it for travel to other resorts for meals, but certainly didn't need it to travel to the pool or Artist's Palette. Our view was not terrific from our unit but others in the same building would have been great. View is not a top priority for us so it did not effect our overall experience. I really enjoyed walking around the resort. We mentioned on more than one occasion how wonderful our location was and how much we enjoyed the resort.

Love :lovestruc my SSR. Glad to hear you love it too!

I never thought I would like SSR as much as I did last year. The theming is not really my cup of tea, but I found the resort to be very relaxing. I had no problem with the buses, either, and I was traveling alone with a 4 year old at the time!

I agree with a pp that the new pool is definitely going to give SSR a BIG boost. We stayed in the Paddock section and as long as you are not looking to walk back and forth to the food areas several times a day, it is great. The new pool being placed there will make it a very popuilar spot. I wouldn't hesitate to go back there again and plan to try it again after the new pool is opened.

Glad you all have had great experiences as well! We are looking forward to our next trip in the summer!

Tiger :)

SSR is also our first home resort, but we haven't stayed there yet! However we've stayed as hotel guests at SSR quite a few times and thought it was very nice. Nice to hear it worked out well for you. :earsboy:

DW and I have even found SSR to be relaxing and "away from the crowds" during Spring Break! It can really absorb the guests.

We love SSR for all the reasons you have described, plus more.

Next year, when the expanded pool opened, SSR will be even better.

SSR is a lovely resort. The grounds are just so peaceful and nicely landscaped. I even found some horseshoe pits I never knew existed this past trip. If I wasn't so enthralled with Kidani Village right now, I would probably be headed back there or OKW this summer.

. . . . . . Next year, when the expanded pool opened, SSR will be even better.

How cool just thinking about it!

The Grandstand pool really opened things up, and this will do the same! Now maybe getting a room next to the pool just about anywhere will be easier!

We've stayed several times at SSR when we decided rather late in the game to go to WDW - we could choose between OKW and SSR. We agree that SSR is lovely - we stayed in the Grandstand section last time and loved our villa's proximity to the quiet pool and bus stop. It is a top notch resort and I would be glad to stay there any time.
