Our new Publix is about to open

I thought I would share with you several things happening here in Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach - first our very own, first time a REAL store is opening here on November 11, 2004 (next Thursday) and its a Publix - they have a strip mall which looks to be about 15 different types of shops, Pizza place, etc - this new Publix is located right in front of Durango's Steak House and Holiday Inn Express - The new center is called Cornerstone Plaza -
Also we have a new motel going up in Cocoa Beach which is directly on A1A - right next door to Ron Jon's - it is owned by the Radisson and Quality Suites - it looks like it going to be very nice -
it is still about 6 months from completion - will post when it opens.
As I find out about new stops opening, will post so when you come here to Brevard County, you won't feel so lost OK?

I am a grocery store unit manager here in Indiana. We have some pretty nice stores, but they don't come close the Publix we shop at in Tierre Verde. You will love it!

Norm, my prince charming, loves to shop at grocery stores - he would love if he could be everyday of the week - me, been there and done that when all my babies were growing up - if fact he most likely would pay someone to do their grocery shopping ---it is really going to be nice for those that may have a need before they board on the ships etc - also there is a cuban sandwich shop opening up 2 doors down from The Perfect Gift - now that I am looking forward to - listen if anyone needs help down here - let me know and if I can help I will and if I can't maybe I will know someone who can.

Hey there Scott - the latin sandwich shop is called Mr. Cubanos - it is being opened by Tony, who for many years has practiced law here in Brevard County. He is not only a top notch lawyer, but a cuban chef - we have all given him a hard time about leaving law to cook - he is great and he has been kind enough to make everyone around his guinna pigs -

Publix's is sure doing it great - everyone is on pins and needles until next Thursday - the grounds etc looks great and quite an improvement as to what was there.

As for the new motel - it really is going to be nice and you have free parking in a high rise area right there at the hotel -
Will keep all posted as to what is happening around here - I do know the sand is being removed from the streets, homes etc that was blown on land by the 3 hurricanes - the beach still has a way to go - there have been folks that went on the beach from here all the way South and found a fortune in lost treasures off of the sunken pirate ships - the paper said the amounts found were being kept a secret due to the fact the state is entitled to half of it all - wish I would have thought of going out with a scanner -

I want to add another endorsement for Publix for folks from other parts of the country. Publix is truly one of the friendliest, most helpful, clean and well stocked supermarket chains. They are a privately held company out of Lakeland FL, and because they are not publicly traded less might be known about them compared to Albertson's or other publicly traded supermarket chains across the nation. Publix is the dominant supermarket chain in FL, and they have been here in Georgia for over a decade now, and have also opened stores in Alabama and perhaps Tennessee. My former law firm represented Publix and I did some work for them and have had the opportunity to spend time in corporate HQ. Their friendliness comes from the top down--no executive dining room, the executive board sits down at long picnic style tables in the cafeteria right next to folks who work on the loading dock, and all employees own shares of the company.

I am sure they will be stocking an abundance of items that passengers about to get on a cruise ship will want to buy--they customize their stores to the community, even to the particular neighborhood.

Hey there all,
Well Publix opens up this Thursday at 8AM - I was walking around the complex and there are going to be about 20 other little shops - looks like 2 restaurants and a pizza parlor also - one looks to be like a chain restaurant that is going to be Beef O' Brady or something like that - the front of Publix is gorgeous - completely different from all the others - very nicely landscaped - this the first for Cape Canaveral - been here 17 years and I always hated to go so far to shop -------- anyhow I expect Norm to be waiting in line to check it out -- its going to make it super nice for those that are cruising and always have to go out of the way to find a grocery store - the Publix is EXALTY 2 miles South of the Radisson - if you look up behind Publix and see what looks like a red smokestack, that is pointing to where Norm and I live EXALTY - you are seeing the top of our elevator and it faces our front door - our your way back, the shop is one mile North from Publix - Happy Shopping to ya all.

I can understand the excitement of a Publix openning in Cocoa Beach. My daughter started having a small cough during our drive last week and I was afraid to be without Delsum if we were on the ship so we went in search of a drug store. In NJ there's a drug store on every corner. We were surprised how far we had to go only to find the two drug stores right next to each other. It will be great having Publix where you can get whatever your forget before you cruise.

Is this Publix in addtion to the one a mile or so south on A1A or is it a replacement?

And their stores open at 7am every day of the week. I'd expect the same for the new store.

Hello all,
Well the new Publix opened up yesterday (11-11-04) at 8am - of course Norm was there almost first in line - never seen a man get so excited about a grocery store - anyhow it is really beautiful and anything you need is there - NOW it does NOT have a pharmacy so you will still need to go to Eckerds or Walgreen about a mile down from the new Publix for prescriptions etc - I do not know how long it will be before the other shops and restaurants open, but will keep each posted - the new Publix is located at 5801 North Atlantic Avenue at the Cornerstone Plaza which is located directly accross the street from Durango's and Perkins and right next door to the Holiday Inn Express - also it is 2 miles South of the Radisson.

Thanks Shirley for the reviews! Maybe Norm would be available for us crusiers for grocery store runs. He could have everything waiting for us at our hotels. What do you think?

Denise LOL ---listen he spent 3 hours there yesterday checking everything out and tasting everything they had to offer - he was like a kid at a toy store - he most likely would pay you to do your shopping - I believe the most interesting part of the new Publix is that as you walk in, there is a sand sculptor of dolphins, turtles, and a welcome sign which is in a large sand box. I know those going in will enjoy it.
