Our Netflix account was hacked!

Ours was hacked too, about a year or two ago. I turned Netflix on to watch something, and they had changed my name and my son's name to something really ugly and grotesque. My son saw it, too. :( I had to call to get it fixed. The Netflix employee was very apologetic.

This is what I have here in the States, considered 'unlimited' as far as whoever uses it but limited to only 5 devices at a time.

If you were the main account holder, you should have been able to go to your profile & sign everyone off/delete their profile and then change the password. My profile screen shows 5 profiles, myself-my daughter-2 grandkids and an open profile box. One day I just happened to notice that one of my granddaughters friend had set herself up a profile and was using my account, lol. She had seen where my granddaughter had written down the email & password and just took it upon herself to add on. I promptly went in and deleted her profile and changed the password. It is not that I cared if she used it, she just never asked permission and she is the type to give it out to everyone she knows.

They did not have a profile. This was the in "the old days" of NF...lol.

Oh ok, yeah I have a Roku tv and I noticed there is a big difference between streaming Netflix from the Roku box and having it 'built in' on the tv without the box. Don't remember if there were profiles when I was using the box.

Who has to hack? Pretty sure DS has given our password to every single one of his friends. He even made a "guest" profile for them to use. I'm currently paying for 5 and we only use 2 in the house, but somehow it just feels wrong...
Not Netflix (DD pays for Netflix for herself and *I* borrow it, lol) but my VUDU account was like this for a bit with DD going to friends houses and logging in with my account onto their devices but never removing them after. One day DS couldn't log into it on his iPad and it's because there were too many devices on the account. I had to to go in and wipe them all out. I told DD to take her Roku stick from now on.

It is wrong to use an account on more devices than what you pay to use....in most cases, that means a single family. If many, many people are using an account, that is stealing. I know it's the *kind* of theft that many people think is innocent, but it is not.
It depends on the service and their TOUs. iTunes for instance is "Family Sharing." Five people and I think ten devices. Those people have to be registered to the account. UV has a similar set up but you can actually add people who've added people and it's one giant account. Netflix and Amazon go by #of streams+ #of devices. Disney Movies Anywhere goes by devices-I think it's ten. Most of these do not require that the people using them be related or reside in the same household. Devices are allowed to be swapped out at any time. They are meant to mobile services. As long as the guidelines are being followed, x number of devices/streams etc. the TOUs are being followed.

It's happened to us twice. The first time it happened, all of a sudden the words (text) were in spanish. We thought we just accidentally hit spanish on something and didn't think anything else about it until we had to call Netflix because our password wasn't working (we typically didn't have to log in, but had to this time for some reason). This was a few months after we noticed the spanish. Anyway, the Netflix rep told us it had been hacked.

Then about a year later, we turn on Netflix and one of our user's names was changed to Juan. LOL We had a good laugh over that one because Juan had been watching some kid shows and we figured he got in trouble for changing the user name.

Both times were a fairly easy fix, just annoying.
