I tried to get into Netflix and noticed 2 individual movie accounts with strange names. I checked our account and found an email address I have never seen before. DH called Netflix and was told that someone has been using our account from Portugal! They reset the account and changed the password. Strange that people will hack your account so that they would avoid paying $10, really?

Happened to us too. Was a bit of a pain to resolve but we fixed it.

Yeah, I wonder if they had a security breach. I randomly had a bunch of movies I would never watch turn up in "watch it again".

When my dd was in college I, too, couldnt believe how many people shared one account on so so many devices lol

We have in our home but under my dd's account that I pay but have my mom's account on my phone that I use at the gym when running and Ive always been surprised on the lack of control.

It is wrong to use an account on more devices than what you pay to use....in most cases, that means a single family. If many, many people are using an account, that is stealing. I know it's the *kind* of theft that many people think is innocent, but it is not.

I actually got a notification from Netflix about this. The just advised resetting my password since the one I used was very weak.

We have dealt with that and even after resetting and changing the password the person was able to continue accessing our account :(. We had to completely close our account and open a new one with a new password.

#trip Thank you for the website. No, we haven't done any updating of our account recently.

I just tried to watch a show and noticed that the language and subtitles were changed to Spanish! We just had dinner at my parents and they mentioned that they have had someone accessing their account from Texas for the past 4 years and they just don't care! They felt that they are not paying anymore money, so who cares!!! Not sure how they know about the hacker. I told them that it bothers me that someone is using my account!!

We had a Netflix mystery at our house. We only pay for it to be in 2 devices at a time, which causes some aggravation among my kids but oh well. I'm not paying any more.

Anyway, for the longest time it kept saying someone was watching Glee on our account. I figured it was one of my kids, and they figured it was me. It was always on, even if my kids were at work. We started asking each other and none of us were watching Glee. It took some major digging, but we finally found out it was my niece's ex boyfriend, watching it in another state! He thought there was nothing wrong with it and couldn't understand why we were unhappy. He was quite annoyed with us when we changed our password!

Trust that all the streaming services are well aware of all the account sharing going on, including premium services like HBO Now. They're waiting for everyone to get completely dependent on them before they bring the hammer down.

Funny story, we bought an Apple TV online off someone, my dh went to his house and bought it off the guy. We took it home and set it up in our room and realized he never signed out if his Netflix account (we use my moms account, she pays for 5 users at a time so our family can access her account). So we just continued to use his account. It wasn't because we wanted to steal his account it was just because we figured it didn't really matter and we just didn't bother to sign out and into my moms account. This went on for over a year and we always wondered if "Richard" was wondering who was watching all these shows on his account and we would say things like "I wonder what Richards been watching this week" lol. One day recently we went to watch and he had signed out of his account, so we just started using my moms account on the Apple TV.

If I'm watching Orange Is The New Black, and a stranger in Ypsilanti hacks my account and tries to log in while I'm already logged in (maybe he wants to watch House of Cards), will he just be able to log in NBD, or will I get kicked off, or what?

Strangers are welcome to watch Netflix on my account all they want, so long as they create their own profiles and don't clutter up mine with movies I wouldn't watch.

I know how it works here in Canada ( not sure if everywhere is the same), you pay for a certain amount of users at any one time. My mom had the basic account which only let 2 or 3 (I can't remember) users on the account at any one time. If the maximum amount of users were already using the account and you tried to log on it would tell you to try again later as the maximum amount of users were already using the account. She ended up upgrading her account to I think 5 users for a couple extra dollars a month because she said whenever she wanted to watch something on her account she was blocked out because my kids were hogging her account :)

It took me a year and half to shake one of her former roommates. The person stayed logged in so they were never disconnected from NF. I changed the password. FINALLY one day they logged out and that was it, they were shut out.

This is what I have here in the States, considered 'unlimited' as far as whoever uses it but limited to only 5 devices at a time.

If you were the main account holder, you should have been able to go to your profile & sign everyone off/delete their profile and then change the password. My profile screen shows 5 profiles, myself-my daughter-2 grandkids and an open profile box. One day I just happened to notice that one of my granddaughters friend had set herself up a profile and was using my account, lol. She had seen where my granddaughter had written down the email & password and just took it upon herself to add on. I promptly went in and deleted her profile and changed the password. It is not that I cared if she used it, she just never asked permission and she is the type to give it out to everyone she knows.

Who has to hack? Pretty sure DS has given our password to every single one of his friends. He even made a "guest" profile for them to use. I'm currently paying for 5 and we only use 2 in the house, but somehow it just feels wrong...

Mine is like that- I have me on there, my daughter, my daughters friend, a neighbor of mine and my brother-doesn't matter to me who uses it, as long as I don't have to pay more than I am already paying.

No you don't get knocked off- my daughter watches on her phone in school during free time and I watch at home at the same time and no one gets kicked off.

Do you know how Netflix works? You pay for the number of people who can be logged on at one time. We pay for 5. I pay for 5 so why shouldn't I share it with my adult children and their significant others?
