Tuesday, April 6th.
WHAT WE PLANNED ON HAPPENING:
We had an 8:30am PS for breakfast at Boma. After breakfast, we were just going to hang out at the resort until our Tiffany Towncar driver picked us up at 12:10pm. Our JetBlue flight was scheduled to depart Orlando at 2:10pm, and, after a layover in New York City, we'd be arriving home at 6:35pm.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED:
We set our wake up call for 7:45am this morning. Sure enough, Mickey called us right at 7:45am. I got to answer the phone - I just LOVE that wake up call! Too bad they can't do something like that for us at home! Although, I don't think it would be the same... Anyway, we both got up and ready for breakfast.
We headed down to Boma by 8:25am. Boy, was that lobby BUSY! LOL We were lucky that we had made PS for today - there were lots of families without it, and they had to wait a very long time for breakfast. We put our name in and were given a pager. We sat down on one of the benches in the lobby and just people watched while we waited. I love people-watching, I could do it all day long! LOL Our pager went off at 8:40am, and we handed it in to the cast member. She then led us to our table, which was near the back of the restaurant, near the windows. Very nice.
Shortly after we sat down, our server came by and took our drink orders. I decided to be adventurous and I tried the West African Frunch. Alex stuck with apple juice... LOL The Frunch was actually very good. Alex tried it but he didn't like it, so he was glad he didn't order it. Our server explained how the "pods" featured different types of foods - both American and African. She said that we were welcome to go up and help ourselves when we were ready.
So, that's what we did. We both headed over to the far left side of the restaurant and made our way across the buffet from left to right. Our plates were filled to the brim! I chose the basic breakfast foods (American!), while Alex decided to be a little adventurous and try some of the African specialties, along with the basic breakfast foods. Some of it he really liked, while others he didn't think were so good. That's what's nice about a buffet - if you don't like something, you're not "stuck" with it.
After we settled the bill with our server, we headed back up to our room to finish our packing and say one final goodbye to our room. It was so sad
Alex helped me finish stuffing EVERYTHING into my suitcase and we did one final check to make sure we weren't leaving anything behind. Once we were sure, we headed out to the balcony one last time and said goodbye to "our" animals. Sure enough, our friends, the ankole cattle were out there to say their goodbyes to us, too. LOL
We dragged our suitcases and bags and brought them over to the bell desk to have them stored while we waited for our Tiffany Towncar driver to arrive and pick us up. After doing that, we hopped in line for guest services because we had a question with regards to the final bill. We had never had a room only reservation before, and on the final bill, it showed them charging us for both nights. Our question was that because we had already paid one nights deposit, were they really charging us both nights, or was it just an administrative thing on their end? It ended up that it was just showing that we had paid for both nights, they only charged our credit card for the one remaining night that had not yet been paid. Whew! This whole fiasco took about twenty minutes, so I was pretty irritated by now. I'm not a very patient person when it comes to a simple yes/no question. Oh, well.
While we were in line for guest services, there was a whole bunch of cast members congregating in the lobby. They all seemed to be really excited about something. They acted like Michael Eisner was coming or something! LOL It turns out that they were celebrating a milestone anniversary for one of the cast members. How fun!
When we were done with guest services, the whole "party" was still going on, so we kind of had to push our way through to the stairs so that we could go downstairs and go outside where we could "hang out" by Arusha Rock and just watch the animals on the savannah. I took lots of pictures - of the savannahs, the lodge itself, Arusha Rock, etc. It is just a beautiful resort.
When we felt that we had "seen all there was to see" we headed up the stairs to the third floor and found a "balcony" with some rocking chairs, so we sat down and just relaxed. We had about half an hour before our driver was scheduled to arrive, so we just "hung out" until then. We both had jeans on because it was COLD back home. At the lodge, it was so WARM! I wanted to go and put shorts on, but they were buried in the suitcase, so that wasn't a possibility... Bummer. Oh, well.
Our Tiffany Towncar driver was supposed to arrive at the Animal Kingdom Lodge at 12:10pm to pick us up, so we headed out in the front at 12noon exactly. Well, he was there already, so we had bell services get our luggage out of storage and they loaded it in the trunk for us. We said one final goodbye to the lodge, and we were off!
We chatted a little bit with the driver - I wasn't in the mood to talk, so Alex did most of the talking. I was too sad that our vacation was over. Alex was so funny - he told the driver that I had taken nine rolls of film, and the driver asked me if I did anything else on our trip besides take pictures! LOL I do a lot of scrapbooking, and I wanted to capture all of our memories on film! LOL We had taken our camcorder, and we didn't use it once!
We were dropped off at the Orlando airport and we found the jetblue counter. There were a few people ahead of us in line, so we waited. When it was our turn, we headed up to the counter and we gave the attendant our confirmation information - we had e-tickets. We had one bag that we requested to have marked "fragile," which the attendant did for us. She also told us that it was guaranteed that nothing in the bag would not break. We crossed our fingers and let it go. (It ended up being just fine when we got it home).
When we were checked in for our flight, we headed over to the monorail and rode it over to our terminal. Once we were at the terminal, we both made a quick pit stop in the restrooms. After our pit stop, we decided to grab a quick bite to eat because we wouldn't be arriving home until 6:35pm. I couldn't go that long without eating, or else I would have gotten sick. So, we found a McDonalds and hopped in line. I looked at Alex and asked him if he had any cash. He said he only had four dollars left. I didn't have any, so we were thinking that maybe we wouldn't be getting any food after all. Well, low and behold, the gentleman in front of us paid with his credit card. Yay! We were able to use our debit card to pay for our lunch.
Alex ordered the Big Mac meal and I ordered the two cheeseburgers meal. I was hungry! I had forgotten that they put onions on their cheeseburgers, so I had to scrape them off. Yuck! And the fries aren't my favorite, but it kept my belly full, so I was happy about that. While we were eating, there was an older woman who was walking around and giving everyone little after-dinner mints that were wrapped in a McDonalds wrapper. How cute! I'd never seen anything like it before.
When we were done with our lunch, we headed over to our gate and sat down and waited. We didn't have too long of a wait - only about ten minutes before they started boarding passengers. Our seats were close to the front, so we were one of the last ones to board. No big deal here. Once we got on the plane, we found our seats. We were seated in a row of three seats - there was a gentleman in the window seat and we both had aisle seats. I sat in the middle, and Alex sat in the aisle seat. We had never flown with jetblue before and we were very impressed with the plane. The all leather seats were very comfortable and roomy. It felt like first class! And, the television screens were a nice distraction while we flew. I had to close my eyes a couple of times, though, because the television sometimes made me queasy.
When it came time for beverage and snack service, we were floored by all of the different options they offered. We were used to the standard pretzels and coke. Not jetblue. They had everything from animal crackers, trail mix, pretzels, anything you could imagine. It was very nice to have all of the options.
Our plane touched down in New York City (JFK) on time - right at 4:35pm. On our tickets for the next flight, it had the gate number listed, so Alex and I got off of the plane and headed to the gate number listed. Well, once we got there, it said that the plane was going to somewhere else - I think Cincinnati or something. There was another gentleman right behind us who was looking for the same flight as us - to Rochester. So, we went up to the counter and asked what gate our flight was leaving from. Turns out it was the same gate that we arrived on! So, we headed back there and waited for them to begin boarding.
The flight was scheduled to depart JFK at 5:15pm and they didn't start boarding until 5:30pm. Yikes! We were finally in the air by 5:45pm. We were supposed to arrive in Rochester at 6:35pm! Oops! They must have made up tons of time in the air, because when they announced that we were landing in Rochester, I looked at my watch and it said 6:35pm!
We met Alex's mom down by the baggage claim area - Dad was still trying to find a parking spot for the car. Dad finally met us inside while we were waiting for our bags to come out. Once we had everything, we headed out to the car and headed for home. Mom and Dad had gotten us a pizza for dinner, so once we were finally home, we just threw our bags in the living room and sat down and ate dinner.
My parents came by shortly after we got home and they brought over Noah - our baby boy (he's a dog). I had missed him sooo much, but they said that he had been very good at their house, so we were pleased with that. It was nice to be home, but I sure was not looking forward to going back to work the next day! LOL
(I hope you've enjoyed reading our trip report - we had a wonderful time despite the fact that almost nothing went as planned. We're looking forward to the arrival of our new addition to our family - hopefully we'll see him/her for the first time sometime in December! After that, we're also looking forward to visiting Walt Disney World again in a couple of years. If anyone has any questions, I would be happy to answer them. Thanks again!)
