Our MAGICal 8/23 Cruise

I was up before the sun, very anxious to get a first look at Castaway Cay. SO with my family sleeping, I crept out of the room and up to deck 10. It was still dark, and there was not much to see, but I was very excited about my day, so I went all the way forward, and stood at the front of the ship, looking into the dark distance. To the aft starboard (or back right) side, I was able to watch the sky lighten and eventually, the sun peek over the horizon. Truly breathtaking. I sat down on the steps leading from deck 10 to deck 9, and just took in nature’s wonders around me. I felt at peace with myself and the world in those moments....not yet aware of what was ahead of me later.
I gave up on looking for Castaway Cay, I figured that daybreak was too early for me to see anything. I trotted back down the stairs to my room. After I annoyed everyone enough for them to get up and dressed, we headed back up top to watch the actual docking. We walked from bow to stern as the ship turned, and were able to watch the island get closer from the back.
Being that Jimmy and I had an early parasailing appt, we headed to Rockin Bar D, the official meeting spot.
Here is where things went bad. No one had an answer for what we should do with our kids. The kids program was not open yet, in fact, the ship was not cleared for debarkation yet; and we could not take them on the excursion. My sister was gone from her room, and we did not have time to look for her-we were previously told the she could not take them off the ship, then after is was too late to find her we were told it was okay for her to take them! GRRRR!
We were both cranky about this, and I was falling apart at the seams (seems I am afraid of heights!)
Jimmy goes to Deck 1 and explains to Cms there our dilemma....he needs to get to Scuttles Cove 10 minutes ago, and meet us at the pier for parasailing before our boat leaves without him. They took pity on him, and let him be the first off the ship, another CM actually drove them to Scuttles Cove, where my kids had the honor of being the first kids of the day checked-in.
He booked it back, and actually beat the group to the pier.
The instructor walks up with dental floss wrapped around his pelvis, and proceeds to explain that this piece of dental floss is what would secure me to the boat as I sailed 1000 feet over Castaway Cay......Wait! Did he say 1000 feet? No one told me anything about 1000 feet....I figured 200 feet maybe 300...but 1000? Hyperventilate!!!
I get on the boat last, only to find out that means we parasail first. Oh no! Jimmy went first so I could see how high it goes, and it looked more like 20,000 feet to me. Tunnel vision, hyperventilate, the crew thought I would have to be medi-vac’d to a hospital. I could not do it....so my paid up front fee was gone. But Jimmy had so much fun, he really didn’t care. He held me until I could breathe again, and told me it was okay to be afraid. He actually took it in stride, boy was I shocked!
Back on dry land, the tour operator felt so bad for me getting sick, he told me I could come back later and try again. I thanked him politely, but I knew there was no way that was ever going to be a piece of dental floss holding me to the back of a boat.
We hoofed it over to Scuttle’s Cove and signed out the kids, and found the rest of our crew on the beach.
I have to say something very controversial here, after seeing Magen’s Bay, I was a bit disappointed in this beach. It reminded me of the Jersey Shore, with families of four taking up enough chairs and umbrellas for an entire village, and securing their spots with various belongings strewn everywhere. I guess it’s because we were in a spot right at the beginning of the beach, but I did not like it. The water was crowded with people and rafts, no one caring if they plowed over anyone else. Yech! Next time, I think I will head down to Serenity Bay, where hopefully it is emptier.
Lunch was okay, but finding a table was tough, and it seemed that all the crowds we did not see all week suddenly appeared on Castaway Cay.
After my sister’s parasailing appt at 1:30, the plan was to meet up and get back to the ship to have the kids cleaned up before the Discover the Magic show.
It seemed like they were out the forever, or it could be that we were just anxious to get off that island. Lucille and I signed all the kids out of the club, and took some pictures with the ship in the background. We browsed She Sells Sea Shells a little bit, and picked up some pins.
When my sister and Frank finally returned, my sister surprised me by saying she was scared for her life, and would never parasail again (she’s usually the daredevil of the family!) So I knew I made the right decision.
On the way back to the ship, we stpped at the parasailing pier again, we wanted to see if there were any openings as Wade wanted to do it, but didn’t have an appointment. The guy there, Mr Dental Floss said that Wade could go up on my ticket being that I wasn’t going to go. Disney Magic touches us. It was the highlight of our day onshore.
The rest of us headed back aboard while Wade hopped onto the boat for his parasail.
We got showered and changed and dropped the 5 kids off at the club for rehearsal.

Coming Soon: Day 8 part 2...my son’s a ham and our last night aboard

Your trip reports are great. The pictures really make it better!!! I have to do pictures next year! Do you guys go to 80s or 60s nights?

Now, I thought the parasailing was awesome, and I can't even stand to be on my own roof at home. I'm glad someone was able to use your ticket.
