Ok, I have a good friend who is a teacher at the H.S and is on the prom committies and attended at a supervisor...where I got this info. from.
Back when I was in prom, my biggest worry was rain on Prom day/night and if my hair would look good...now days there is A LOT more.
This is the SECOND year in a row that two or three guys have been in trouble for giving girls the 'date rape drug'...a little scary. I cannot imagine what it will be like by the time MY DD'S go! makes me nervous!
Last year, there were 3 rapes on prom night. Two of the rapes involved the date rape drug- both of those girls that were raped, were done so by someone OTHER THAN who they attended the prom with...and these girls are really smart, honor roll, involved in the community, all of it.
THIS year, this teacher that I know was at the Prom dance and witnessed two girls who appeared to be severely drunk or high or COMPLETELY out of it were being escorted out of the dance area by three males- only one of those males attended the school. She immediately approached the group with another male teacher and these two girls weren't even functioning. The ambulance was called, tests were run and they BOTH had been slipped the drug. Two of the guys were not from this area, but they knew the one h.s student who attends here and were invited to come by him. The local guy set these two up with dates from this H.s.
I am in no way 'in the dark' about the drug useage in today's society...I am still shocked though, that this is happening in such a small town. Sure, one year...but TWO YEARS IN A ROW. I know that drugs are present here, there's no question. But, this is a small town community with little to no crime at all other than the once or twice a year robbery or the 'minor assults' here and there.
The school has actually said that the rules will be changed here next year to protect the students...which is great, but how can they set 'tons of new rules and prom regulations' and still expect this to not be a problem in the future?
They wanted to set the "no arrivals after ______ 0'clock" rule, which I don't think will help, because if the kids can't get in there, they'll just go somewhere else. At least these two girls were HELPED before anything happened, because the supervisors were able to see what was going on...if they go somewhere else, who's to say that would be safer?
I've tried looking for local news stories about it, but NOTHING. I'm kind of surprized. I'd like to get more info. the supervisors all had to meet with cops because charges were filed, but is it because ALL who were involved were under 18? Is that why it can't be printed? Or talked about?
I guess i'm nosey. I just want to know how this is all being delt with, so we feel like something is being done to protect our community from this being a larger problem than it already is.
It sure is an eye opener though. Young girls (and even adult women) really need to be cautious now days about what they are drinking, because this has become a reality and something that can happen to ANYONE!!! Too many teen girls now days have the "oh that'll never happen to me" attitude. I hope and pray that some rules can be set, maybe more supervisors be present or something for the future H.s. gatherings. This could happen at any party, any dance hosted by the school OR NOT hosted by the school.
The best we can do is educate our kids and raise them with the best knowledge we can...after that we just have to hope and pray that they'll be OK.
