Our little thread of BIG changes, the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

OMG!!! I just got a FP for Illuminations on the 4th of July!! Woohoo!! :-)

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

That seems like an awesome plan. Good view and confirmed space on the busiest day for night shows. Well done mama.

Happy hump day! :)

I haven't done too much Disney planning as of late. Just trying to get things nailed down (MDE, etc) for now. We can't reserve FP's until July 10th, so we're just waiting. 117 days to go!

DD's first birthday is a week from today (:sad1: ) and I've been in crazy planning mode for her day. Many family members will be flying in a week from today and we'll have a mega memorial day weekend including two celebrations. It should be fun! I've got two big Costco shopping trips to do between now and then. Should be fun though! It also makes time fly which is helpful.

Hope everyone is doing well midweek! Almost Friday! :goodvibes

Before we started using the DP, we would budget for food. I would look at menus and get an average for how much we would spend each meal. Now that we have used the DP, the DH says he will never go to WDW without getting at least the regular DP. He would just rather have the food paid for before we go, than take a chance on us spending it before we leave.

So much this! DH is a DP pessimist but even he admits the freedom of not paying on vacation is liberating and very little effort is required to break even with OOP.

My ILs found DP let them escape more -- less logistics about how much this meal cost or deciding if they should eat cheap because last meal was pricey. We also managed to come away ahead on DDP last time (about $40 each for a total of $300 savings)... and our extra snack credits made for great souvenirs - more savings!!! FD next trip made everyone's day (some were trying to budget and planning on making sandwiches in the room so they could enjoy nicer dinners) but they are all stoked to get DP this time.

I really wish coasters didn't make me as sick as they do. I really do love riding them....until the point it makes me sick.

I am definitely not the thrill junkie I was 15 years ago! I can only do one or two rides and then I need a break. DH and I rode a couple of the big ones back to back and I was done for the day!!!

Are they having F! any other night of your trip? The only reason I ask, is if they aren't, it could make that night busier. Then having the special seating would be a good thing. Plus, like you said, you can just grab a snack for lunch. Are you on the DP or did you pay OOP for the package (I can't remember). If you're on the DP, doesn't it just cost 1 TS credit, which wouldn't be any more credits than the meal itself.

They just added some late shows to other nights our week so I am debating heading to HS to catch the late show one night. If we free MM F! we can grab DP and come out ahead! Right now, though, the extra sit-down isn't worth OOP with DP... hmmmmmmm

Personally, I would keep the September one, so you can decide if you like it for your December trip.

That makes total sense!!! Mahalo!

CM is our family favorite. This last trip was the only trip we haven't eaten at CM's, just because we couldn't make it work.

Good to hear!!!
I am thinking it would work well for Christmas brunch.... just have to see what the group thinks.

Trip news...
6 days until our trip begins!!
9 days until we spend the day at DCA!!
10 just.....just 10 little days, until I can finally walk where Walt did at DL!! I seriously cry every time I think about it. Now if whatever junk has me running a low grade fever, waves of feeling like I'm going to throw up, and sore throat will kindly go away in the next 5 days, it will be even better.
So sorry about MIL but isn't that just like husbands! *shakes head*

SOOOO excited for your trip! I hope you love World of Color as much as we did!

Changes booked and linked to MDE! FP+ done and maybe just a couple tweaks to ADRs (and FP+).

So I could have gotten the dining plan with my room reservation at WL through Disney, but it was going to be $800 more than what I paid through Orbitz. Sorry, but we're definitely not eating $800 worth of food in that amount of time, especially since we'll be CL! I feel bad for booking through Orbitz instead of my TA for it, but I did at least keep the CSR package with him and I had referred another family to him, so he'll have that (they're going to WL in August).

Funny story I thought...I mentioned that I had gotten FP+ for the mine train and Anna and Elsa then. My TA was quite impressed since he had gotten FP+ for the mine train for his client but couldn't get A and E. Hehehe.

Anyway, have a great day ladies!!

Great FP+!!!!! AWesome! And you got Illuninations on the 4th! AH-mazing!

dimnigal1, Love that your DD takes on the rollercoasters!! :woohoo: Thought about you this weekend as Sam finally got the nerve to try the rollercoasters at Dorney Park... probably 'cause she was there with friends.. when she sent me a text that she went on Steel Force and was in the FRONT it shocked me!! This the child that up to last year only did family coasters! My baby is no longer a baby (and that's good). :goodvibes

Totally DH's doing. DD has been very tall for her age and we went to DL right after she turned 3 and hit 40". We knew she liked the freefall at Santa Cruz BW but DH was positive she'd love ToT (momma not so sure). She cried in the queue line because of the theming and three CMs asked if she was okay and kept remeasuring her, trying to give her an out. DH knew if we could get her past the scary parts she'd love the ride and sure enough, she bounced off when it was done and said "we have GOT to do that again!" We also took her on Space that trip and she loved it... only to find out when we went to WDW the next spring the height requirements were different and she couldn't ride! She was so mad!!! She told the CM "You and California need to figure out how tall safety is!" *shakes head*

Glad your DD is starting to find the adrenaline bug!!!

Tough to say... although it is nice to have that priority seating, especially in hot weather. It seems you have a good set up with early breakfast / early dinner. Remember by the time you are seated and get your food it will be closer to 4:45pm.

True... hadn't thought of that
Thinking we'll keep it unless they open up a late show. Part of my hesitation is I don't think LO will make it through F! so I plan on leaving early with her anyway... just seems sort of a 'waste' to do the meal and not benefit. We shall see how schedules progress!

We done CM and PF (both breakfast & dinner)...enjoyed them all. We really love CM, and the fun interaction with the characters. Its just so happy and fun. PF was great too with those wicked stepsisters. What do you think the kids will like best? Will Cape May be convenient for when you would be going?

I think the little ones would enjoy Mickey more than 'off' characters and we already promised DD6 we'd try to do Akerhaus for her princess fix. We're thinking Cape May for Christmas dinner (long story but half group wants traditional holiday meal, other half want choice!) but I wouldn't mind the breakfast there.....hmmmmmm

I just realized we're going almost the same time! When you said July 10, I was like "wait, we're around that time, too!" YAY for Sept trippers!

Memorial Day should be fun but I know how hard it is to plan logistics for such a group! *HUGS* and hope it's a blast!

*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*

Not much to report here. Almost tried an WL/AKL split for Sept but don't want to mess with the phones. Found out a good friend here is going same week we are! (kids have two days off for country faire) and we'll be at MNSSHP same night... fun!!!

ILs are driving my crazy with ADRs - all over the place and yet they want to try to do meals together. *shakes head* We shall see how it goes!

*HUGS* to everyone and Happy Hump Day!:goodvibes

Where is everybody??

I'm still here....at least until Thursday night. Today was one of our crazy days at work. Tomorrow should have been a slow day, but the family that has 4 kids (that usually isn't there on Thursdays) is going to be there.

Hopefully, they don't want to do all the meals together. To me, that would seem a little crazy to constantly try to get that many people together for meals.

Well, the DH and I only have 1 more day of work before we go. Tonight, my main goal is to at least get socks, undies, and swim suits packed for everyone. The other have to goal for tonight, is to scrub down the bathroom in our bedroom. Since the DH is busy with people in our new guild in the Star Wars game we play, I'm going to be able to get a lot done. Then I really need to get some laundry put away that I washed and dried yesterday.

Happy Thursday morning!! I'm up getting the boys ready for their last full day of school before we leave. I still have a lot to do tonight and then some shopping for last minute items tomorrow. Last night, when the DH, mil, and I were trying to figure out what they wanted me to make for dinner, I told the DH I would rather not cook and just grab something. He said, "well, I figured you wouldn't want to cook tomorrow night, so we already planned on eating out. You can either cook tonight or tomorrow night, you pick." We'll just have to wait to see what the fil feels like eating tonight since he's been having stomach issues.

So happy for you guys:goodvibes

DD has asked me take her to DL next year or year after. Hopefully you can help me out with questions?

Have a great time:cloud9:

Im about to do it again!!! We are currently at POR in a royal room for our july trip but now I am think WL or POLY! If we do POLY standard view what longhouse should I request? We would like a real balcony. The view it self isn't important since it's just a quick trip but in standard view category where is the best "view"? Im crazy!! I can't stop changing resorts!!!!:rotfl2:

With the construction at the Poly, I don't know the best long houses to request since the ones I liked are closed now...and the path to the TTC is all torn up I think I saw as well.

I would vote for WL. ;-) but I am biased because that's where we will be in July too! Almost did a split with POR, but decided on CSR instead.

Lol. My trip started at the GF for 4 nights with a special deal. My TA thought surely I wouldn't change anything on him because of it. Now we are there for 9 nights (5 at CSR and 4 at WL CL) over the 4th of July (about 2 weeks before the originally booked time).

Good luck!!

Wow this is so much like me! We started at beach club for 4 days then switched to POR royal room for 5 days because we were able to get FD at beach club in November and wanted to try something different each trip. Now I want to change to one of the MK resort since we are only in the parks 2 days and they are MK and EPCOT.

The November trip went from AoA family suites to POR to BC. Clearly I have a problem! We will be there July 6-11th!! yay

Sounds like a fun time! Alas, my "babies" are no more :( ... enjoy this special time!

Kim, have a wonderful time! Will look forward to your pix! Enjoy and safe travels. (hope FIL stomach issues have improved.) Ps. why can't you grab a bite out both nights? :goodvibes

We are [currently] booked at the Poly in August, standard view, and we requested Fuji or Aotearoa, 3rd floor, like both locations (hoping for a bit of a lake view or monorail view). Plus both longhouses are on the other side of the resort, away from the contruction. So seems like a win-win for us. :)

What to do what to do????

We are at WL figuring we get the luxury of being near MK and can boat over to Contemporary for monorail if we need.

I drive DH crazy because in the middle of running something by him I'll start changing the parameters of what I was already changing. :rotfl:

I love when the TA is so positive and we throw them... poor dears :rolleyes1

I love your logic!!! Still get to enjoy Poly but try to minimize impact of construction. :thumbsup2

Driving myself crazy trying to figure out Christmas dinner! A buffet would be the easiest to appease everyone but I can't help but feel the holiday calls for something a little 'nicer'. Even if we did go buffet I can't figure out which one is the best - Cape May has good choices (family loves fresh seafood) but the atmosphere seems less holiday than I was hoping for. Thinking maybe an early dinner and then head over to Poly Beach to watch fireworks and sip some drinks? I would love to do Ohana but I can't find anything about them offering 'traditional' fare on the holidays.

The funny thing, though, is I'm turning MIL into a Disney nut. She printed out all the DDP restaurants and is making the fam out there start figuring out which restaurants. Makes my job easier! :)

Hope everyone has a Happy Friday! We got tons of rain last night so the pollen count is low! LO is EVERYWHERE today - we can't go outside - and keeps finding all the crayons that DD6 seems to lose that we can't see (under the couch, behind a book... it's like a 6th sense!) Keepin' Momma on her toes!

 to all!

I vaguely remember Trail's End at FW that had a holiday type meal at Christmas?? Now this was probably a good 20 years ago, BUT worth checking into maybe?

Very cool that MIL is helping with dining plans/ideas. :-) I am going to be looking at QS menus for our trip so we can try some new ones. We've had the deluxe dining plan before so mostly we did TS or the QS we knew and loved (like CHH at MK). But we'll be utilizing more QS this time around to save on costs for the second part of our split, as well as the credits we have for the regular DP for the first part of the split.

Favorites?? (Mainly worried about the kids. DD doesn't eat PBJ or hamburgers or grilled cheese or...you get the point). ;-) chicken nuggets, Mac and cheese, hot dogs, pizza, spaghetti, Chinese food, and steak are all fair game though. ;-) lol

I will definitely look into TE... my only reservation is ILs are from the Rockies and camping/horses are their average weekend. I am already nervous WCC might be pushing it at WL (but it's so pretty!!!) but I can send the menus to them and see what they think! Thanks for the suggestion!

As for QS, I think you can really do well at EPCOT and AK's QS. In fact, we've only eaten QS at AK (part of why I wanted to try Tusker House one trip this year). At AK, we have done Yak and Yeti and Flame Tree and liked them both. The pizza place near the dinosaur area is okay... meets the need but we try to avoid the 'can get this at home' for us if we can (and most have a few kid basics for DD). At EPCOT, we love Tangerine Cafe at Morocco and Sunshine Seasons at the Land (great late breakfast spot!). We also ate at Mexico's QS and Japan's QS and enjoyed them as well -- great places to grab a light bite to split... the nachos at Mexico were great.

All the QS we have done at HS have had the kid staples (usually a burger and often nuggets or pizza or a hot dog). None of the menus really stood out to us - just a place to grab a burger but I will say that the staff at Backlot Express was absolutely amazing at helping me get my GF bun on a burger. The manager and chef were so amazing - I usually just order a burger w/out a bun but the manager said they could do a GF bun and then brought it and a batch of GF french fries out - I'm only sensitive not allergic but the gesture was great. He also felt bad for the additional wait (which I totally understood b/c it was special made) and gave our group of 7 free FPs for Star Tours. Admittedly, it was toward the end of the night (Fantastmic was about to start across the park) so things were slower crowd-wise, but he really took the time to ensure I was square so I give him a lot of credit (and dropped a nice email!)

One of my little cousins (6) who is going through some major medical issues is on a Wish Trip to WDW! He's had such a tough year - brain tumors and horrible side effects from chemo - so this is just a true blessing for him and the family. He has a little sister who I know will also enjoy the trip - it's been hard on her, too, with all the focus on her brother. Makes me so happy that MAW and GKTW can do this for the family!!! :goodvibes :cloud9:

Just an FYI, it is now being reported that guest staying at the Poly will NOT have use of the GF pool. They will have their one day at Blizzard Beach and then be able use the East Pool for the remainder of their stay.

(For those of you still holding onto your Poly ressies, this might make a difference) :goodvibes
