Last time we went to disney on the DDP (2 years ago) we had a hard time finding things they wanted to eat. Mac n Cheese. Pizza. Chicken Nuggets.

Really? Is that all kids eat?

Our kids LIKE good food. They love steak and chinese and hummus and chili and quesadilas and asparagus...

What restaurants in disney have items on the children's menu thats not the same 4 bland kid offerings? We're eating at the Yak and Yeti and I believe there is some variety there. They LOVE the Biergarten... what else should we look into that offers something thats not more pizza, chicken nuggets, and mac n cheese?

:welcome:

Stick to buffets for the best variety. Also, I don't know how old your children are, but if they are close to 10 you could always upgrade them to an adult meal plan, but be aware that if you do that you would also need to pay to upgrade their park ticket to an adult as well. Might be worth the extra cost if you think the children's menu won't work well for them. Check out menus on www.allears.net Good luck!

Do not get the DDP and order form the adult menu for them. you indicate Kids so they can easily split and adult meal or you can order something the other child may want and share everything.
Or as you know you can go to Buffets but not all are good

Yak and Yeti is great! You will love it. My kids are the same way. Le Cellier has steak on the kids menu. Coral Reef is good. Cinderella's Royal Table. O'hana's and Nine Dragon's are just a few that our family enjoyed. :thumbsup2

If your kids like good food, then don't do the Dining Plan. Maybe the DP works out for adults who can eat all the food provided, but kids can never really eat enough chicken nuggets, pizza, or mac-n-cheese to justify the cost of DP.

So, order a la carte. For instance, let your child(ren) order that extra dish you really wanted to try and pick from his/her plate if it's too much food.

My 2-year-old asks for broccoli, we never look at any kids menu. A piece of anything from my plate is better than the stuff Disney expects children to eat. I have never even had a good burger or fries at Disney (and that's a shame).

And for those wondering about my giving my child treats - ice cream and candy are on the menu.....but the main meal of chicken nuggets, pizza, or mac-n-cheese are a rare option.

Le Cellier has steak on the kids menu. Tepan Edo has chicken and rice on the kids menu. Flame Tree has BBQ chicken. Mama Melrose, Chicken Parm w/ salad and minestrone soup I think!

My son like your chicldren, didn't eat the typical mac/cheese much less Disney's mac/cheese wiich is "Yuk" and of course Disney pizza is also "YuK". We found a few places that offered regular food, like we ate at home. At home there are no kids meals, there is just dinner, we all eat the same food!

Unfortunately there isn't much to choose from especially when doing the DDP, so I usually gave him some of mine or ordered a separate side of veggies like spinach, asparagus, Au gratin potatoes to compensate for carrott sticks and apple slices!

Our DD is the same way. She loves eating "grown up" food. Don't get me wrong, she still likes chicken nuggets, but she would prefer eating that same as her father and I. Anyhow, one of her fav's is Boma. They always have hummus on the buffet!

I ran into this too with my sons and we ended up just foregoing the dining plan until they were dining "adults". They would have been miserable on Disney kid fare. How old are your children? It might be worth it to upgrade them to adults as the pp stated.

I don't think it makes financial sense to "upgrade" them, as that would be more $$$ for both the DP and the Park Tickets. Better solution is to skip the DP and pay a la carte. That way you pay less for their park tickets and they can probably split an adult meal, plus share off your plate. Also, appetizers are great ways to introduce kids to adult food and the portions are smaller. And appetizers are not included in the dining plan.

For years I did the Disney Dining Plan, I scheduled buffets.

I stopped the Disney Dining Plan because there was not a good variety for the children. When we go to the counter service, I get them an adult meals some places they could split one. So this worked out better.

I can eat where I want, and how much I want, and the food that we actually like! Not sure if I saved money, but it worked out better!

Buy the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disnet World. Their restaurant reviews are pretty much right on.

My kids loved to eat "good" food too. Posters have given great suggestions. We did buffets a lot because the kids could experiment with new foods. If the kids aren't huge eaters, they could share an adult meal too. The portions are usually large.

My kids (almost 10 and 3) are the same, they never order off the kids menu but because we are on the free dining plan (end of Aug) upgrading to an adult rate for our 3 year old is only $25 (the difference in ticket price) so that is totally worth it to us. That way, they would be able to split one CS meal and we would have an adult CS credit left for the other child.

I would skip DDP if your kids want more than chicken nuggets. The kids DDP really limits their options.

Go OOP and the kids could split an adult entree.
