I have enjoyed reading trip reports since I discovered the DIS a couple years ago. Since I found the site, Ive taken two trips to Disney and have never written a trip report. I love writing, just can never find the time. This will be my 5th trip to Disney, and my daugthers 3rd trip.
My mom has been listening to me talk about Disney for a while now and after my Dad passed away last December, she told me, Life is too short, Im going to travel. I nearly fell of my seat as shes never been on an airplane and never had a real vacation before. It didnt take long after that conversation for me to start planning. I figured the best time of the year to visit would be in December (all the boards tell me its not very crowded) and we would love to see all the holiday decorations. My grandmother (84 who lives with my mom) decided that she would like to come along, too. I was shocked, as she hasnt traveled for many years. I thought it would be a great way for 4 generations to bond. My DH had decided from the beginning that he would sit this one out, as we had just gone in April and he has had enough Disney for now (can you imagine?).
Soon after we invited my grandmothers two sisters and one of their daughters. The sisters decided they were too old to go to Disney (even though they are both younger than my grandmother), but my cousin said she would love to come. She has two children, 15 and 12 who I have always been real close to so I though it sounded great. She also invited her boyfriend.
The planning began and we decided on renting houses instead of staying in the parks to save a bit of money on food. It would be nice to have our own pool and be able to relax outside with privacy. I also thought it would be more comfortable for my grandmother to be in a home rather than in a hotel room.
Once these plans were in place my cousin decided that she and her boyfriend were going to try to set up a reunion for him and his 18 year old daughter, who he hasnt seen in 12 years. She agreed to come out from California and said she was going to bring her boyfriend (who one month before the trip became her husband). Thankfully we had rented two houses instead of one!! Anyways, about a month before the trip my grandmother announced that she just wasnt up for the trip. She is afterall 84, can still get around okay, but tires easily. She was concerned about keeping up with us, although I reassured her I had rented a ECV and we would go at her pace. But she just wasnt up to it . In hindsight it was probably a good idea. She probably would have been miserable.
That is how we ended up. The trip was planned for 12/3 12/11. The planning was all done by me, all PSs, all dinner shows, which parks to visit on which days. I loved every minute of it!
