I don't disagree that the Wish might end up in Galveston and in theory Galveston should be a great LNG port but final permits to actually getting something built and operational is a long road. Right now they have LNG refueling by barge, workable of course but not nearly the slam dunk it would be if construction was complete.
DCL historically did fall sailings out of NYC too.
I think the biggest thing is that Galveston is a competitive market with the family-friendly Carnival Jubilee and MSC Seascape permanently homeported there, so I think the Wish is Disney's best opportunity at winning in that market. How does the timing work if the Wish does a short season in Europe for her drydock then comes home to Galveston? Does that fit DCL's published timelines?
It could work as we don’t have any info about Galveston other than 2027. It could be late 2027 starting November-ish after the WBTA, that would also mean that Wish 4 is likely sailing from somewhere in FL already too.

This is what I think is happening too. The Wish is not doing well out of PC (Look at the stackable discounts for this fall) so moving it to Galveston (after a European season & drydock) and having Wish #4 take it's place out of PC makes a ton of sense to me. I think it will be interesting to see what the theme is for the newest Wish class. Anything too niche makes the chances of the Wish going to Galveston lower IMO (like I personally love Star Wars but I cannot see that being a major theme and doing the PC runs)
Or was it just priced too high, compared to Dream out of Port Everglades? I know for us it was worth traveling down a few miles for the difference last year. Disney has to face competing against other Family Cruises, but now they are also having their own ships compete against each other.
I agree. Only so many people are going to go on 3/4 night cruises on the same ship more than once or twice especially when other DCL ships in PC and PE do that as well.
MSC built a HUGE terminal in Miami so they are moving the Meraviglia to Miami and leaving Brooklyn. I thought that maybe/hopefully with that loss, DCL might capitalize on the spot. On these blogs I see a lot of folks wishing for a return to New York, BUT I am a rather new cruiser so I don't know all the industry drivers - just wishful thinking!
The Dream sailed in Europe in 2023 and 2024, and will be in Europe again in 2026. The Fantasy is sailing it's first season in Europe in 2025.
Right. The Dream didn't start sailing in Europe until after the Wish started doing the 3/4 night Bahamian cruises, so it is unlikely the Wish will sail out of Europe for an entire season until after a new ship starts sailing 3/4 nights out of Port Canaveral.
My company was/ is part of the industrial water treatment portion of that new terminal. I haven’t seen it since complete but it was amazing how big it appeared while doing a walk through during construction
I think many new cruisers actually prefer the wish class because it is very in your face Disney (not my fav but many love it).
Yeah being able to handle 36,000 travelers daily, even if they did three of their new World class ships... that seems like way over designing. And how often do you have three ships in port at the same time?
We personally don't look at anything under 5 nights on any line. We ended up on the Magic out of PC due to length and price point. Would have loved to try the Treasure but it was out of reach with having to burn $ on airfare.
We would like to try World America at some point - MSC is doing some interesting things at a lower price point. As with all things, not everyone is a fan, of course. Currently have a Disney placeholder burning a hole in our pocket for 2027 so hoping for some interesting itineraries when they do finally release. Speculating is fun!
It's mostly Floridians like yourself that do the short cruises and Floridians are conditioned to get Florida discounts.
