Contemporary Resort 3/1- 3/9/03

3/1 Sat.:
We drove all Sat. to get to CR by 7pm. My family (flew in from WA, and used Tiffany's town car service) had been waiting for us for about 20 min. Check-in took awhile but we were happy to get settled in our rooms and saw the 8pm fireworks over MK from our windows. I set out fresh fruit, chips and dips, root beer and mickey candles in the cheesecake (my son picked out at Sam's Club). We sang happy birthday to Andrew (my DS) and dug in. I passed out party favor boxes (blue mickey gift boxes from the DS) to the kids full of disney toys bought on clearance at the DS, big disney suckers and stickers from the dollar store and starter trading lanyards from the DS (I got for $2 each! thanks to posts on the budget board) I also gave each adult a lanyard and a squeeze breeze ($1.50 on clearance at Walmart). My son's actual birthday was not until Mon. but I didn't know if the cheesecake would hold up in the cooler and thought it would be good for the kids to recieve their pins and toys early in the trip so they wouldn't feel the need to beg for things in the parks. This actually worked out well and gave the kids something exciting for the first night. My family stayed in connecting rooms down and across the hall from us. We watched the water parade from their windows before trudging off to bed

3/2 Sun: humid, 80's, some sun

My neice 9 dressed up in her Belle costume my sister and I gave her last night. My DD wore her pink sleeping beauty dress and blue cinderella crown. All 11 of us walked over to MK for EE at 8am. We stood in a short line to meet Buzz and get his autograph X's 6 then rode his ride. Next was SpaceMt. which everyone rode but me, DD and n#2. We were pointing out pins and cast member lanyards to our family and they were starting to trade. We went to the castle for our 9am breakfast next. We stood in the line to see the FG and all 6 got to sit with her before our name was called. We had two tables across from each other in the center of the room. My sister liked that the princesses gave as much attention to the boys as the girls. We rode the teacups next. Group split up so boys could ride thunder mt and splash mt while sister and I stayed back to take 3 kids on Dumbo, Mom went with the boys. After Dumbo, we met up at Winnie the Pooh to use our fast passes. Trouble is, the men had lost my son, DH went to find him while most of us rode Pooh. Son found watching the logs splash down near spmt. It was heating up and kids were getting cranky so we went back to rooms for a rest. and lunch. My sister and mom's families went back to see the 3pm parade and we followed later. We waited to sit in the front of the monorail (our first time!). We did some pin trading down main street and decided to walk through swiss tree R.. Halfway through, DS declared it boring (he had not napped  ) and started acting cranky/bratty so I say "fine, back to the room" We hopped on the train thinking less walking. DS fell asleep on the train so we rode it around more than twice while he and his sister slept. We got off at the front of the park and took them back to our room. Met up with the families and rode boat over to Hoop-de-doo-revue. Great evening at that dinner/show. Saw MK's fireworks while waiting for our seating (7:15pm)

3/3 Mon.: DS's and sister's birthdays today!!

We ate at 8am at Chef Mickey's. They brought out cupcakes with lit candles and we all sang. We were all wearing matching Disney FunSeeker Tshirts that I had picked up at the DS for $4 and $8 (kid's and adult sizes) and had a group photo taken. Everyone was wearing their lanyards too, quite the sight we were :p . I had picked up birthday buttons at the MK yesterday and gave those to the birthday "kids" to wear for their day. I had pulled out my big bag of DS pins last night and everyone bought a bunch, even the kids spent allowance and birthday money. Pin trading was an activity the entire group enjoyed. We had planned on the water park for that day but it felt too cold to everyone (I told them how uncrowded it would be....) so we went to AK because that is a miserable park on a hot day. We picked up birthday buttons here as well so they were wearing two birthday buttons all day. We rode the Safari first, no fast pass needed. Saw a baby hippo, so cute! We watched Tough to be a Bug next. Scared the kids except DD3 because I sheltered her, she was fine. Rode "dumbo-dino" a couple of times in a row while the bigger kids rode primeval whirl coaster. Took all of the kids to the dino dig playground while the adults other than me rode Dinosaur. We had snacks water, juice boxes for the kids but everyone was saying hungry by4pm so we didn't stay for the parade. We went to Beaches and Cream and used our vouchers. I was hoping they would put candles in the kitchen sink (they were wearing their birthday buttons) but no mention was made of their birthdays, oh well, the food was good. We were done eating by 6:30 so we went for an explore around the boardwalk. Our illuminations cruise was at 8:15pm so we had time to wander. Around 7:30 it starts to downpour :( . The cruise was still fun but not what we were hoping for. Great view of illuminations.

3/4/ Tues. : still cold

Kids keep whining everyday they want to go to the water park. I say fine, let's take them and let them freeze their buns off so then we can start having fun. Other adults veto me saying wait till tomorrow when it will be hot. "everyone else is waiting for it to get hot too" I remind them. Off to Epcot we go. We have slept in and eaten breakfast in so we don't get to the monorail until around 11am. We are first to the Epcot monorail so I ask for my sister's family to ride up front. I wait on the bench with my other nephew and my neice (along with DD3) so they can ride up front on the next monorail. Now each child has ridden up front! We ride space ship earth first while the men go pull fast passes for Fast Track for the group. We pull out sandwiches and snacks for the kids whenever they feel hungry. We do Cranium command and Body wars. Universe of Energy is next then onto Fast track. We pin trade and one CM tells us he has a pin reserved for someone who's birthday is today - my sister wonders were a CM like him was yesterday, lol! It has gotton hot so we ride the monorail to the TTC then walk to the Poly (CR's main pool is closed). We have our suits with us and have a great time at the Volcano pool. We see the fireworks at 7pm as we are toweling off (MK's) We ride the monorail back to our rooms and have dinner/play time back there. Once the kids are asleep/nearly asleep (around 9pm) we two couples leave grandma behind to go to Pleasure Island. Mardi gras celebration is in full swing. We catch loads of beads, one big string of beads makes a small cut on my face - ouch! Very crowded that night so we didn't make it into many clubs. Left after midnight. I miss the confetti, when did they stop doing that?

3/5/ Wed.: hot, sunny, glorious weather

Everyone and their dog was at Typhoon Lagoon today!!! Crowded :( , boy do I wish they had opened BB as first scheduled. We were through the gates by 10:15 am which was too late for any chairs in the shade. I found a few chairs for the 11 of us and a lady left her spot and told me we could have hers so we had a little patch among the sea of people. Even though the wave pool was elbow to elbow, it was still fun. We didn't even attempt any slides. We did the lazy river and what a time we had trying to get tubes for all of us, :p . We did the shark reef and that was fantastic with barely any line. We had packed lunches so we didn't have to battle the food lines. We left around 3:30pm to get ready for Cirque (show time at 6pm). We had paid for center seats and I loved them. Second to the back row of the first section - great view. The kids didn't bother us at all they were very entertained for the entire show. My Mom couldn't believe it was over, it went so quickly for her. We had bought buckets of popcorn and the kids like the buckets still. I bought the CD. I still listen to the CD of Mystere that I saw in vegas 7 years ago. Cirque is an investment of $$ but it will not dissapoint. I don't feel it is necessary to your disney experience either though. The show in Vegas is just a bit better, see it there if you miss it in FL. Mom stayed with sister and BIL to shop. DH and I took all 6 kids back for down time.

3/6/ Thurs. : hot and beautiful

We went to MGM at opening (9am) and rode TowerofTerror first thing. My sister and I went with Mom, neice, and n#1. The 9 and 8 year olds were both crying when we got off, they were too scared. I loved it, but felt sorry for them. My DS had ridden it in Dec. twice and decided he didn't like it so he passed this time. One of us pulled fast passes for Rocknroller while we swaped riding on TT. Each adult got to ride twice. DH and I took the 6 kids to Playhouse disney while the other 3 adults rode RNR. We met up at 50's Prime Time Cafe at 12 noon for lunch. Great server and fine food, great airconditioning, I reccommend the break. I finished eating first so I went and pulled fast passes for Little Mermaid for all of us, missed seeing "Aunt Claire" handfeed BIL his veggies. We all enjoyed Little Mermaid show and then we went and claimed two benches for the parade that was to start in an hour. We bought popcicles for the kids and they dripped all over, good thing for wippies. We had a great location for the parade, no crowding, great view and character interaction. n#1 was feeling sick by this time (from the heat we think) so sister's family went back to their room. We continued onto the Muppet movie and Star Tours, hardly any wait - the park really cleared out after the parade - so hot. Saw sorcerer mickey at his photo spot then minnie outside. Around 5:30pm we got Mom down to where you entered for fantasmic and in line for some hotdogs for her and her kids. I put glowin the dark necklaces and braclets ($1 for 4 at the dollar store) on the kids to make them easier to keep together. We weren't going to stay because DD doesn't like fantasmic and my DH really wanted to eat at Boma. Turns out my sister had come back to watch and managed to find Mom, the four of them really enjoyed the show. We got to Boma in time for our 6:20 ressies. We love this place. My DH ate for 45 min. after we were done so I took the kids outside to rock in the rockers and relax. Got back to our rooms about 9pm and the rest of the family was already there.

3/7 Fri. : hot and sunny

We went to MK at opening 9am and all 11 of us rode Dumbo first thing. Then we rode Peter Pan. Mom could not ride this ride because it can't stop to let her on. Did Pirates next than on to our breakfast at 10:10am at Chrystal Palace with Pooh and friends. Kids really enjoyed the parade through the resteraunt, marched so happily. Sister's family went onto Epcot and we went outside to find a flat tire on our stroller. DH jogged back to room for our pump (and some pin trading on his way;) ) while I took Mom and 4 kids on the flying carpets (neice's choice) then It's a small world (mom's choice). Thanks to walkie talkies, DH met us outside of IASW. We had alot more rides planned before the 3pm parade but my son was too hot and cranky, he just wanted to swim. My Mom's kids were fussy as well. She didn't want to stay without us so she came back to the resort with us and we all swam in the quiet pool (main pool at CR still closed). We rode the monorail over to Epcot and rode "Figment" or otherwise known as Journey into Imagination. We met my sister's family at Mexico at 5:30pm for dinner at San Angel Inn. I put glow necklaces and bracelets on everyone, even the adults, because Epcot gets so dark at night. We rode the Mexico boat ride over and over (me and 6 kids) while the adults finished eating. Mom, DD and me stayed to walk around world showcase while the rest went back to the rooms. We got poured on but had ponchos. We rode the Norway boat ride and did alittle shopping. I wanted to buy Beaver Tails but all the snack shops closed because of the heavy rain. We watched illuminations but didn't have a great view, we already had seen it so well on Mon. night. and didn't want to waste time getting a good spot. We looked through Mousegears and made our way home. Cousins had had great time playing together.

3/8/ Sat. : overcast but warm (80)

We went to Typhoon Lagoon. Trust me, I told them, everyone will be at MK for spectro. We had the park to ourselves it seemed after Wed. We got there before opening and picked a table with huge umbrella right in the center of kiddie area. For lunch we bought the kids' meals in buckets and they had loads of fun playing with those. I bought my DD a big plastic orange boat for $1.50 and a kid ran off with it, took it right from her and was gone :( . Not a big loss, but I didn't expect it. We rode the family raft ride and were dissapointed. It is nothing like the wonderful one at BB. Basically you just get water dumped on you and my DD was always covered in water it was so deep, I finally put her on my lap so she could breathe. So glad I didn't wait in line for it, lol! My kids played in the kiddie land for most of the day. They loved the little tube ride for them and just putting shovels of sand and water back and forth. We stayed until closing - great day! We ordered room service in our room and watched Ice Age on our portable TV/VCR. Took showers. Got the kids to sleep and laid them down in grandma's room. Went to Pleasure Island with sister and BIL around 9pm. Older crowd tonight (unlike mardi gras) and alot less crowded. We went to a comedy show and they were having 80's night in 8 tracks. DH and I left after countdown but sister and BIL stayed later.

3/9 Sun.:

Packed up and loaded up the car. Sister and Mom had their luggage stored at the front desk. All rode the monorail over to the GF for 11am breakfast at 1900 park faire. The kids got so much attention from the characters because the place was nearly empty. Alice was in full character, she sang to tables, danced a lady through the room for her "unbirthday". She and Pooh snatched a bag from my Mom. It had some bathing suits and sunglasses in it. Alice put the little tank on her front and her legs into the trunks and was running around squirting the sqeeze breeze that was in there as well. Pooh had the sunglasses and little purse. Mary Poppins brought Alice back and the stuff and told us sorry. Alice stuck her tongue out :p . Food was good. We went back to CR and swam in the main pool that opened up this morning!!! Kids really liked it and we spent the afternoon there. Van came to pick up sister and Mom's families at 3:45pm and we left as well. We drove over to AK's Rain Forest Cafe where we only waited 5 min. to be sat (we didn't have PS's). We used our two lunch vouchers and ended up with loads of food. The key lime pie is really good. We left WDW for good and drove back to AL :(

you did so good with the kids and the mom and everybody....good going to you......you sound like you all had a great time.....we did 8 in our family lsat april and my mother in law in a wheelchair and we had alot of fun.......having fun is alot of work......thanks again for your report

wow.....you did do good. that is no small feat. Trust me...I learned my lesson.

Thanks, both of you, a pat on the back feels good. It really helped that my family of 4 had just been to WDW the first week of Dec. 2002. That week was for us and the week in March we had to "give" alittle. My Mom adopted my neice and nephew 4 years ago and this was their first time ever to a disney park. Missing things like RnR was possible because I got to ride it twice in Dec.

My DS's fav time this last vacation was HDDR. I'm sure the fact we were such a big group made it all the more fun.

Your report was great. You did a wonderful job balancing everything. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing your trip report, looks like the weather cooperated for you. I enjoyed reading your report. :earsboy:
