Hi everyone, we got back from our first trip to WDW a few weeks ago and I figured I MUST write up a trip report as a thank you for all the great advice I have received from these boards. I apologize that I am not very tech savvy and don't know how to post pictures. I've tried before but we have an 8 megapixel camera and it seems to overload the memory capacity. I don't know how to resize or anything. But I'll post the link for the Disney photo shoot and Randy's photo shoot when I get it.

Okay some background on us. We met on October 11, 1996 when his friends crashed my friends party. We celebrate this anniversary moreso than our actual wedding anniversary (May 30, 1998) because we feel that once we met it was inevitable that we would get married. We are as passionately and profoundly in love now as we were back then (so it IS possible). We have gone through surgical residencies, Bar exams, fertility problems and deaths of family members, but still our marriage remains the most defining thing in our lives (he recently got me a license plate that reads "LV MARIJ). Believe it or not we have only had a handful of fights in our decade of marriage, we're just very compatible.

We have 3 children: DS7, DD5 and DD2. We wanted to do a vow renewal for them because they are at the perfect ages to appreciate participating. Our original wedding was a long and extravagant day: a Hindu ceremony, a lunch reception for 350, a Catholic ceremony and a dinner reception for 750. And no, I don't know that many people. Both sets of parents happen to be very social, and this was the first wedding in both of our families. I had no problem sacrificing the intimate wedding I had wanted in order to get the chance to live the rest of my life married to my soulmate. But I wanted our vow renewal to just be with the people that really loved us. Originally we were going to do a kitchy Vegas VR with an Elvis impersonator, but then I realized that my kids have no idea why that would be fun. So I turned to Disney, and their Escape package seemed perfect (albeit expensive).

We knew we would be hosting our entire family, so we joined Disney Vacation Club to secure accomodations a couple of years ago, without ever visiting Disney. There were 16 of us (I'll use abbreviations in case they don't want their names given out):
Me
DH
DS7
DD5
DD2
OS (older sister)
OSH (her husband)
Niece (1 1/2)
LS (little sister)
LSH (her husband)
Nephew (3)
Mom (mine)
MIL
FIL
BIL (DH's younger brother)
SIL (his wife)

My dad is 77 and didn't feel up to coming, since he no longer likes to leave his comfort zone. I didn't have a problem with that.

Most of my family stayed at a 3 bedroom villa at Old Key West. My inlaws and my two older kids stayed in a 2 bedroom villa. Unfortunately they weren't able to get us in the same building but we were across the street from each other. Old Key West was so great. It was really roomy, and the building we were in (63 I think) was close to the entrance and exit bus stops of the resort, so we never had to wait for the bus to go around the entire resort.

Okay let me get to the vendor reviews before my kids get too ornery.

Disney Floral: B
I got a tussy mussy bouquet with white flowers with no roses. It was nice, but nothing show stopping. My DD5 had a white triple rose wand. It was pretty and she loved waving it around.
We had a family sand ceremony with 5 vials of sand so we could all participate. We chose the colors light pink, dark pink, light blue, dark blue and white. How I envisioned it was that we would each put the sand in the bottle and it would make pretty stripes that represent each of us. But pink and blue sands were practically indistinguishable. And worst of all, the sand only went halfway up the vase, it did not fill it up at all. It looks kind of dinky in a half-filled bottle. They did give us a bottle topper and pack it up for us. The sand mixed up completely in the suitcase, but it didn't leak out.

Disney Cake: A
I got the $25 upgrade on the Escape cake. It was a white fondant cake with gold stamped Mickey heads all around, and white gum paste flowers. It was very pretty. I did notice the fondant buckling a bit in the back because of the heat, but I don't know if buttercream would have done any better. The bottom layer was marble cake with peanut butter cup filling. The top layer was chocolate with rasberry mousse. They were both super-good! If I had to make a choice I think the bottom layer was the bigger hit. We had both layers boxed up and took them back to our room and knoshed on them for the rest of the week.

Ron Rosenzweig: C
I picked him because he got good reviews here, but mostly because he's a notary since we're a mixed religion couple. He was the biggest source of stress though (actually the only source of stress). A couple of months before the ceremony I was getting worried because I received no word from him as to what to expect during the ceremony. The whole point of a vow renewal is supposed to be that it's not a wedding , so it can be anything you want it to be. So I emailed him and said that I was worried and wanted to know how the vow renewal ceremony would go. He emailed me back a 2 sentence response saying it would be a greeting then the sand ceremony then the vows and kiss and it would be over. So I decided to research all kinds of wording for all the aspects. I sent him an actual 4 page letter with our entire love story, how we wanted the ceremony to be fun and intimate and make our kids feel special and the special touches we wanted to add like our DS7 and DD5 saying why we love the other. I found a vows reading in the tune of Dr. Seuss that I wanted him to read which reflected the light mood we wanted to set. He called me up 3 days before we left and sounded very put out. He said that he doesn't do custom ceremonies. Even though his website says "I am willing to go the extra mile to make your wedding extra special." He finally agreed to just read straight from my letter. But during the ceremony he didn't read one part of the Dr. Seuss poem right and messed up the rhyme. His voice did not carry and so most of the guests did not hear him during the ceremony. I think he's probably a good officiant, as long as you don't take him out of his comfort zone.

Ana Rivera from Beaute Speciale: A
We had all of the ladies hair done, and my hair and makeup with false lashes. I bought a 23" Ken Paves "Hair-Do" clip on extension with me, which she added to give me extra length. I had sent her some photos of the heavy upper-eyelid look that I liked, as well as the low side bang half-do that I liked. She told me that because of a cowlick I have on my hairline, I can never have a flat low side bang like I always wanted. That was disappointing because I love that look, but at least I now know why no one has been able to do that for me. I don't wear much makeup in my daily life, and I've never had my makeup done before, so I can't say I was entirely comfortable looking unrecognizable to myself. But everyone did say that my makeup looked pretty.
Ana had Lorena with her and they split up all the ladies of the party. Every single person LOVED their hair. Even my MIL who gets her hair done pretty often, and never likes it. She took pictures of her hair so she can now tell future stylists what she wants them to do. My DD5 went to Bippity Boppity Boutique and got her hair shellacked into an iradescent updo which she loved. But my DD2 was too young to go, so Ana did her hair with a pony tail extension and some eyeshadow and gave her some nail polish. DD2 was absolutely thrilled with it.
Oh and I had the Swarovski Cinderella tiara. Ana said that stylists dread it because it is heavy and hinged. It was a total two man operation to get it in my hair straight. So unless you have a two stylists, I wouldn't recommend that particular tiara.

Randy Chapman: A+
I haven't gotten the pictures back yet, so I can't speak for his photographic abilities, but I can speak for his personal skills. He was so accomodating and friendly. I hired him for 3 hours plus fireworks photos. Fireworks were suppposed to be at 9PM but they were pushed back to 9:45, so he stayed with us from the time of our ceremony at 5PM until about 10:15PM. I saw him take a lot of candid pictures of the kids, which I know I'll love. One thing I would recommend is to know exactly what shots you want and communicate them clearly. I wanted a kiss picture with petals raining down, but he thought I just wanted a walk through the petals picture. And I didn't tell him that I wanted family pictures on the beach, so he had let everyone go back to the air conditioned lobby. I could have just told him what I wanted, because he was very open to suggestions.

California Grill: A++
I booked the Sonoma Room at the California Grill because I knew we would need a private room with the 5 kids. The Sonoma Room is the smaller and less expensive room. The Napa Room has the fantastic view of Magic Kingdom and a door to the deck to see fireworks, but it costs about $1500 more. Guess what?!? They gave us the Napa Room!!! Is that pixie dust or what? It was fabulous beyond words! The staff was so fantastic with the kids. And the food was spectacular. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

Wow this has taken a long time. Here are our Magic Kingdom family shots taken by Ty: http://www.collages.net/disneyweddings

I'll try to give a day by day memoir later, if I have any memory left.;)

your family pictures look great- hope to hear more details but all sounds wonderful esp. about the Napa room!:goodvibes congrats on your VR!:goodvibes

Your pictures are beautiful!!! Congratulations on your fairytale wedding. Just a thought, but have you evertried uploading images on Photobucket? They have a link that you can copy there for images and then paste anywhere. Best wishes!!!:)

Congrats! You have a beautiful family, the pictures are beautiful! Cant wait to hear all the details! How exciting for the room upgrade:cool1:

Id sooooooo love to look at your tiara if you can get that one picture up i'll be so grateful. Is the tiara something that you bought with the package.

Am looking at the family pics right now - you all look so happy

Congratulations on your VR! Sounds like you had a great time! You have a beautiful family. I would love to see some pics especially of your cake, it sounds like you had the same cake I'm having in a few weeks! :goodvibes

Congrats!! I had no idea you could do a family Magic Kingdom Shoot!! I'm so going to be adding that to my list!!!

That is my biggest fear with the sand ceremony too!! Did you get it from Disney Floral?? We are also having the kids partake in our Sand Ceremony, and I think their set is a little plain. But i've been looking for other sets, and they seem just really small, and not wide enought to allow 4 people to pour at the same time. So we'd probably be pouring seperatly, which would help with the color distinguisthing, but then how to get it home!!!

I'd love to see a copy of your Dr Suess vows!! I'm looking for a way to ensure this isn't a wedding too!!

Your vendor reviews are incredibly helpful, especially with all of your wonderful explanations of what worked, and what didn't. Your family pictures are amazing! I love the Mickey outfits. DH and I have the coordinating outfits, we wore them for my sister's hawaiian wedding last summer! I can't wait to see Randy's pics. You have a beautiful family!

Our Ceremony:

I thought I would just copy part of the letter I sent to Ron to show what our ceremony was like:

"I have some ideas for our vow renewal to customize it just for us. I found some phrasings on the internet that I thought you could use a foundation to inspire you as our master of ceremonies.

We are very close to our extended families and really want to let them know how much we appreciate them. I found the following greeting for parents:

“They have asked you here because they hold you, their family, as a valued and essential part of who they are as individuals and what they have become as a married couple. Out of two important and distinct traditions, they have come together to learn the best of what the other has to offer, appreciating their differences, and confirming that from across cultures, love can bind us all together. Your presence is a gift of support and caring and they appreciate your sharing of this special occasion.”

There is a poem that I would like to be read because it most accurately describes our relationship:
All I Want
“All I want is to love you for the rest of my life.
To wake up every morning with you by my side,
Knowing that whatever happens,
I will be able to come home to your loving arms.

All I want is to share everything with you
To talk to you about our ideas, our dreams,
And the little everyday things that make us laugh,
And the not-so-little things that make us worry.

All I want is to give out my love.
As a place you can always come to for acceptance
Or the simple comfort that silence brings,
When things left unspoken can still be understood.

All I want is to grow old with you.
To watch our life unfold, as our dreams, one by one, come true.
All I want is to love you forever.”

We will have 5 different colored vials for our sand ceremony, to include our children. We would like to take turns to create a layered affect in the central jar (not mixing them). I found the following wording that I liked:

“The covenant you are making today is symbolized through the pouring of your individual containers of sand into one. The grains of sand still maintain their own beautiful colors, but are so entwined with the others that they can never be separated. So too will your lives be forever entwined.”

Rather than do a ring exchange, we would like to give family medallions to our children while saying to each individual child why they are so special to us.

We would then like our son and daughter to read our reasons why we love each other. My husband is keeping his secret from me, but my daughter will be saying

“Daddy, Mommy loves you so much because you are better than any pretend prince could ever be. Mommy always says that truth is not proved in words, it’s proved in actions. You told her 11 years ago that you would love her forever and ever. And you have proved the truth of that promise every day since then. I hope that one day I will marry a prince like you. A real life prince who will love me, like me and respect me so that I can live happily ever after just like you.”

We have a special request of you for our closing vows. We wanted to keep it fun and light and I found the following vows which I thought were so funny, but still so true:

Officiant to couple:
Now if you’ll take her as your wife
And if you’ll love him all your life
If you’ll have, and if you’ll hold
Ten years from now a thousand fold
And then until the stars grow cold.
If you’ll love through good and bad
And whether you’re happy or you’re sad,
And love in sickness, and in health,
And when you’re poor, and when in wealth,
And if you’ll love with all your heart
From now until death do you part.
Yes, if you’ll love each other true
Please answer with these words:
I DO!

Us: We do!

Officiant: You’re married now! So kiss the bride.
But please, do keep it dignified."

So here's some background on what that day was like: We definitely did not want a "wedding" since we already had two of them before. We wanted to make it a totally unique event. We did not speak much during it except when we were giving out the pendants to our children (they look like this: http://www.momsjewelrybox.com/Loving-Family/Loving-Family-Index.htm ). We decided to do a Disney characters theme. So we decided to dress up like our favorite characters. I am a bookworm, so of course I was Belle. I wore a yellow ballgown, not a Belle costume though. DH was Alladin (as Ali Ababwa) so he wore in Indian suit and turban. The kids dressed in actual Disney costumes. DS7 was Jack Sparrow, complete with goatee (the eyeliner hurt him, so we gave up on that) and a treasure box which held the loving-family pendants. His speech turned out to be in a pirate theme and telling me how his dad gave up a life of adventure to settle down with me, and is so happy with that decision. DD5 got to go to Bippity Boppity Boutique and totally looked like a Cinderella princess. She did a great job on her speech. DD2 was Tinkerbell the flowergirl, and had pixie dust on her rose petals. Unfortunately she fell asleep in the limo on the way to the ceremony. My MIL pinch hit for her and carried her limp body down the aisle while sprinkling rose petals. It was actually hilarious. For the first dance, we danced by ourselves for a while and then had the kids join us. Tinkerbell was still asleep so my MIL tried to discreetly prop her body into our family dance. That too was hilarious. My niece and nephew were dressed like Snow White and Peter Pan, so all the kids looked absolutely adorable.

So after the ceremony we took family pictures at SBP, then Randy said that the family could go back inside and DH and I went to take pictures on the beach, which is just over a bridge next to SBP. Then we went back inside and took more pictures. Then the limo took the first batch to Contemporary. The only really uncomfortable glitch was that it took a while for the limo to get back and so we were sitting around the valet area in front of Boardwalk for what seemed like a very long time. Lots of people were passing us by and complimenting our outfits, which the kids loved, but I was totally embarrassed being in a formal outfit in an informal setting.

When we got to the California Grill I was so shocked to find us being led to the Napa Room. The view at sunset over Magic Kingdom was spectacular and Randy took lots of pictures on the deck to capture it. The waitstaff gave us some of the most accomodating attention. They spread a bunch of crayons and coloring sheets on the floor and let the kids go for it. The food was SO great, I can't even describe it, but I'll list it here:
Okinawa Sushi Platter
Assorted Flatbreads (pizza)
Shrimp Tempura Roll
Jumbo lumb crab salad with avocado, citrus fruit and cilantro vinagrette
Wood fired quail with salad of frisee, medjool dates, crispy ****ake mushrooms and xeres
Maine lobster with risotto
sorbet (passionfruit)
Oak fired beef tenderloin with whipped truffle potatoes, wild mushrooms and red wine butter sauce
Chocolate Terrine with brandied cherries and creme chantilly

I also got 3 white chocolate Mickey sculptures to be edible favors ($25 each) and a chocolate stawberries and truffles platter ($85) and a white chocolate Cinderella slipper ($18). So the Sonoma room had a $2000 minimum. I had 10 of the Calistoga plated dinners, one vegetarian dinner, 5 kids meals (cheese plate, mac n cheese, and rice crispy sushi) and the basic open bar service, along with the upgrades I mentioned and the total was $2005! But with the tax and tip and mandatory bartender fee it came out to about $2600. We had so much leftover food because the appetizers and desserts were so plentiful, so we boxed that stuff up as well.

At 9:45 we went to the deck one floor below CG where we could take private pictures during the Pirate and Princess fireworks show. I think we got one good one before Tinkerbell freaked out from the explosions, so my FIL took her back in, and we took pictures of everyone else. I hope those turn out well.

I just emailed Randy today, so hopefully I'll be able to post a link to his photos soon!

WOW Your meal sounds so wonderful!!! Yummy!!

Randy's wife called last week and said they were sending our photos. I just received them today. It's a thick white photo album binder with 3 3x5's on each page, and it says "My Wedding" on the front and side.

The pictures are viewable on www.chapmanphotography.com, then you go to "My Photos" and the name is "Sajil and Ramesh" and the date is "6/4/08". The first set of photos is black and white and the second set are all the color photos. I noticed that many of the ones in the album are not on the website, but you will definitely get a taste of what the day was like.

Enjoy, and thanks for providing me with so many tips.

Jil

P.S.- I made Mickey fans with the lyrics of all our songs (and the names and relationships of all the guests) on them. And I got those little plastic "diamonds" and made Mickey heads from them and glued them on the back. I used wired ribbon to make the bows.

I love the pictures of your family... they are wonderful. It looks like you had a wonderful day! I really like the ones of your family in the wedding attire- cinderella, tinkerbelle and capt jack(?)! congrats and thanks for sharing your pictures:goodvibes
