One more comment before I go. At almost 2 weeks out, I can't imagine not sharing this planning time with DS. I can't understand families who spring the trip on their kids as they're going in the car. I mean, is it that your kids would be horribly behaved if they knew ahead of time? Or do you just have other people to talk with about it? I don't know. Even though I talk to some friends about this (like a friend who is very familiar with air travel has been getting an earful from me, who hasn't been on a plane in a decade...or my friends who are Disney obsessed and I treat like my own personal Birnbaum's), I can't imagine not sharing all the planning with DS. We talk about what restaurants we want to go to, what we want to do, what resorts and rides we want to see, and he has a countdown on the whiteboard in his room. When we talk about what we're thankful every day, he brings up our upcoming trip. Plus, there's so much I have to do to prepare him. For instance, he's very nervous about the plane trip so we've been reading books and watching videos (there's a good Lamar Burton video about fear of flying).
And let me tell you. DS loves Mickey. LOVES Mickey. So I just found out about the awesome Meet and Greet Mickey in Liberty Square. I started crying when I saw that video, picturing DS' reaction to the "real" Mickey. I showed him the video and he grinned ear to ear, telling me in awe that that one was the real Mickey and we HAD to see him.
Anyway, I don't mean to criticize anyone's way of doing their trip. Just posting my thoughts on how I'm doing things. I'm sure we all come from very different situations and family types that allow for different ways of doing things like this. And I hope that anyone planning a family trip has a great time!
