Me (41) Dis Board Junkie who would rather spend time planning trip than cooking dinner.

DH (41) Funder of trip and generous earner of frequent flier miles to get us there…appreciates all the Disney planning, not so thrilled with the no dinners thing.

DS (10) Thrill-Seeker…very excited to be going to the “World”. Been twice to Disneyland and loves any ride that goes fast, high or upside-down.

DS (8) Drama King…charming child who loves meeting the characters, thinks he’s a thrill-seeker (but is still a little frightened of upside-down) and may blow a gasket at any time. Been to Disneyland once.

DS (4) Binky Boy…Happy to be going anywhere the family goes, as long as he’s with Mom. Still needs a binky at night, but will assail brothers with full blows when provoked. Also been to DL once.

Trip Dates: 1/7/05 – 1/15/05

Friday, January 14

Sadly, we have arrived at the end of our fabulous First Adventure to WDW. From before the time I had kids, I have planned this trip and now it’s about to become history. That melancholy feeling is taking hold, especially when we wake up to Stitch (how often do they change that recording?) and rain. And I do mean rain. It is absolutely pouring. It’s 6:30 am, the park opens for EMH at 8, our kids are dead to the world, so we make a pot of yucky in-room coffee and read the paper and decide to blow it off. DH heads back down to the Boardwalk for sustenance and comes back drenched. When we are finally ready to move out, we call valet to bring up the car…a good move with this weather.

Our plan today was to do some Fantasyland attractions, then take the monorail to the Contemporary for our 11:20 PS at Chef Mickey’s. After that, we were going to split up, so we decide to park the car at the Contemporary first, then hit MK. Well, by this time, it’s almost 10:00 and we are in line to valet the car. I’m telling DH we don’t have time to hit MK first, but he’s insisting. This, combined with the rain, the last day and general exhaustion send me right into my classic pissy mood. I suggested that we use the time to drive around a little and scout out some of the other resorts (in case we ever get to come here again). Now, thwarting my little plan is the fact that all three boys in the back of the van were just at each other’s throats and annoying both of us, so DH says no way is he remaining in the car.

Into the hotel we go, up the stairs and into the line for the monorail. We wait a good 15 minutes here and I am thinking, what a colossal waste of time! Finally, we’re on and up to MK with ponchos on, scurrying as fast as possible up Main Street to get something done before we have to turn right around and go back. At least with the rain, there weren’t any waits for anything, so we hit Peter Pan, then headed back to the monorail and Chef Mickey’s (pissy mood still intact).

Amazingly, we were there on time, had our photo taken (another good one…can’t believe it!) and wait only about 10 minutes to be seated. Chef Mickey’s was an awesome experience and pissy mood evaporated immediately as the characters visited like clockwork. We were impressed with the great variety of food and the highlight of the day…Goofy waves Thrill-Seeker over to him near the candy dispensers and dumps two handfuls of M&M’s all over his newly-filled plate of breakfast! DH was with him at the time and both of them came back to the table laughing.

By 12:15, we are done and ready to go hard for the next few hours. DH is taking the car and Thrill-Seeker back to MGM for Rock-n-Roller Coaster and ToT while I am escorting the two others in search of autographs in ToonTown. One last time, I rent a double stroller, throw them in it, cover their knees with plastic and hurtle towards our destination, stopping only for a ride on the Teacups. In ToonTown, we visit Minnie and Mickey’s houses, then find the character carnival where we wait for autographs from Donald and then (and I talked them into this) the princesses. I loved how they called them “Little Princes”. We also caught Geppetto, the Genie, the White Rabbit and a few others. Next they played in the leaky boat while I made change to do the penny presses. After a ride on Goofy’s Barnstormer (the shortest ride of all time), we make our way over to Ariel’s Grotto for another autograph, then on to another showing of Philharmagic, Snow White and the Carousel. I toyed briefly with hopping to Epcot to catch some of the characters over there, but it’s late afternoon and we are pooped, so we say good-bye and catch a bus back to the BWI.

DH and Thrill-Seeker have been in touch by cell and had spent nearly two hours doing the Millionaire Show (live taping with Meredith Viera) after the rides. They are already back at the room playing catch out on the lawn (rain finally quit). We have a 3:30am wake-up call coming the next morning, so the packing up needs to be done now. With that complete, we leave the boys tuned into their Gameboys and with firm instructions not to leave the room or kill each other, and head down to order a pizza from Spoodles Pizza window. While we were waiting, we hopped over to the bar at ESPN for a quick beer and a toast to our sole 20 minutes of alone time during the past 8 days! When we returned to the room, the boys hadn’t moved (I’m not even sure they knew we were gone). Like I said before, Gameboys are a godsend!

After dinner, we all took a walk over to the Yacht and Beach Club to look around. We were much impressed, especially with the Beach Club and their pool. After hitting the penny press machines (last ones of the trip…they each collected about 35 coins!), the kids played in the arcade while I went next door to put our name on the list at Beaches and Cream…it was packed! We got in about 20 min later and ordered the “Kitchen Sink” as seen on the Samantha Brown show. It was fun, but way too much! We head back to our room and DH mentions he had promised the boys a quick swim in the quiet pool, so I put Binky Boy to bed and finish packing up the last few items while they go. Before we know it, we are all in bed and our vacation is over (the long, early morning flight home does not get to be included in the word, vacation).

I hope you have enjoyed these reports as I have loved writing them. I plan to save a copy of this little journal to be re-read over the years…maybe even when planning a future trip???

Loved your report! My kids are the same spread as yours (now 6, 3, & not quite 1), but the oldest two are girls. I'm looking forward to taking all three! Thanks for letting me share in your vacation!

Sorry to see your reports end. :flower: I really enjoyed reading about your family's adventures.

Thanks for a wonderful report. I pictured everything - it's fun to visit WDW vicariously. It makes waiting until we can get there ourselves easier! Our kids and grandkids (who also live in the Pacific NW) will be joining us there in March and we can't wait. ::MinnieMo

I just finished each page of your trip report and I have to say WOW! It was fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing it! :flower:

I enjoyed reading your reports. My kids are the same ages DD, 10, DS, 8, DS, 4, so it is neat to see what works for others. I'm 40, Hubby is 43. DD is the thrill seeker - she rode everything last year. DS 8 is the scared one - although he LOVES to read the travel books planning all the rides. He claims he will ride Dueling Dragons at Universal. I told him he can join his sister. I'm not going! This is the same kid who did not want to go on Pirates last year becuase he thought it would be scary. He did not go on Haunted Mansion last year and claims he won't go this year either. (He did end up going on Pirates 3 times and now proudly wears his Pirates T-shirt!) The little one was game to go on anything. I think he didn't have the concept of fear last year. This year he is smarter and Still trying to plan our days in Florida. Grandma and Grandpa just threw a wrench in the plans by changing the days they will come down to join us - so need to look at the schedule! :sunny:

Thanks for sharing your trip with us!! The best part of writing trip reports is reliving all the fun that you all had.

Thanks again!!

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful trip report. I am so glad you had such a wonderful time and hope you share your next one with me, too.
