We (especially me) have been longing to visit the famed WDW, having been to Disneyland too many times to count. (We live in CA) DH has been in a masters program in school psycohology for the past 3 years and it has been a long haul for all of us. He finally graduated this Spring and after a family trip to Disneyland fell through, I suggested that we take this opportunity for a much needed getaway and finally see WDW! Dh and DD agreed! and a June trip was in order. YAY!

It was January and I immediately booked a 6 night 7 day package through AAA starting on June 11th (the soonest we could get away) After many changes, we finally ended up with a 10 night package ( what we originally wanted) for Port Orleans French Quarter with all the 'extras' including the meal plan. I spent 5 months researching, planning, and making tour and dinner/lunch reservations. It was great fun.

On the big day, Nana and Papa drove us to the airport and off we went to Dallas. We arrived on schedule without a hitch and settled in for a lovely lunch at McDonalds before boarding our next AA flight to Orlando. We arrived about 20 minutes late as the stormy weather forced a change of course...but when we arrived, the rain let up and we didn't see much more of it for the rest of our stay...

We found the Magic Express reps easily and were headed to our resort within about 20 minutes! We were so excited. In all our travels, not one of us had ever been to Florida. It was lovely, flat, lush, and so green everywhere.
As we pulled into POFQ, we just stared in awe that we were finally here!
There is a special kind of magic in the beginning of a much anticipated adventure...I think that is what all of us felt as we stepped off that bus and were greeted by a friendly cast member...10 days of magic ahead of us and yet to be discovered!

We were checked in quickly and went to find our room in building 2. I was a little concerned as this was the smoking building, but when I saw the room, my concerns floated away down the Sassogoula River...We were right next to the pool with a lovely river view and if that wasn't enough, we were right in front of the boat dock, which we hopped right on after dropping our things in the room. (It did have a bit of a smokey smell, but I opened some air fresheners on the way out)

We enjoyed our boat ride to DTD and the captains humor reminded me of being on the Jungle Cruise. We arrived at DTD hungry as it was about 8:30 p.m. by now. (We lost 3 hours coming from CA) We headed straight over to Wolfgang Puck Express. Dh had lasagna, I had bbq chicken pizza and Dd had the Mac and cheese. We all enjoyed our selections and the tiramisu and cheesecake after were delicious as well. After dinner we enjoyed wandering around the many shops (DTD is MUCH bigger tha CA one) I purchased a second pin case for DD just for her Tink pins and a few pins for my hat. DD bought an icee in the build your own cup at Goofy's candy Co. That was loads of fun. When we closed down the shops we stepped outside and watched the awesome firework show before heading to the bus stop and back to the resort.

When we returned, we noticed no one was swimming in the lovely pool and so DD and I slipped into our bathing suits while Dh rested in the room and unpacked his stuff. Dd and I had the entire pool to ourselves for around 40 minutes! It was so fun. We saw several lizards and a baby bunny... and just enjoyed the late night swim. Ahhhhhhh Vacation!

We finally returned to the room around 1:30 a.m. and hit the sack. Actually, I spent at least another hour unpacking before I went to sleep. What an awesome introduction to WDW. We were headed to Epcot for our first day and I drifted off to sleep with thoughts of what we might find tomorrow........... :earsgirl:

That first sight of your resort for a carefully chosen vacation is so special - we felt the same when we arrived in March. Can't wait for more :wave2:

It does sound like you had an enjoyable first day. Thanks for sharing it with us.

We will be staying at POFQ next June, so I'm very interested in your report! Sounds like you had a perfect first day....
