Last week we took our first trip to Fort Wilderness. This was also our first trip in our new RV. All I have to say is....WHEN IS IT TIME TO GO BACK?! We were in Loop 800, with our 3 dogs. Everyone at the Fort was extremely friendly, and our neighbors in the sites around us were more than helpful with any questions we had! The Campground itself was wonderful! The Comfort Stations were immaculate and the showers had a ton of hot water. The pools, the campfire sing-along, the bus transportation, the entire staff, I have nothing but good things to say about all! I want to thank all of you for answering all of my questions I had before we left, I really do appreciate it. This trip was so great for us. It was nice that we were able to bring along our Dogs with us, as we hate to leave them home. They got to play with other Dogs in our loop, and they enjoyed going for walks around our loop and in the Dog areas. We made sure to always clean up after them, it's a shame we can't say the same for everyone else. There were a few times I stepped in some unpleasant piles of you know what, and I just do not understand at all why people can't take a simple 2 seconds to reach down and pick up their Dog's mess!! Anyway, I'm starting to ramble so thank you again to all you fellow Campers for making our trip a memorable one...and now I've got to start planning for our next trip...hopefully early/middle May if the Fort isn't booked solid yet!!

Hey Winston, welcome! I know *just* what you mean... December was our very first trip to the Fort, and we're headed back the first of February for a few days.... then, Memorial Day weekend for the big weekend. Yay!

We love traveling in the MoHo too, it lets us bring our BigDog, Bucky.... he's a border collie and just too cute for words.

Glad you're here!

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip..sounds as if you had fun!;)

Unfortunately, there have been other folks posting about the doggie "deposit"
situation..seems you aren't the only one.

It only takes one trip. Sometimes it only takes a day or two and your already saying the next trip....

My first trip to the fort was this past December...Id visited the fort before for the BYBBQ, but never stayed there for any real length of time. After hanging out on this board, and staying in a cabin in December....I started making NEXT Trip plans within the week. Im now booked for May 22nd-31...I swore Id NEVER go to Disney during the summer months again, but the fort has kinda changed that...were n ot even visiting the parks this time...well...we ARE gonna make a couple of days in Universal, but we have at least 3 or for days of planned with NOTHING but hangin at the campgrounds....cant wait to meet some of the mental patients from the DIS on Memorial Day .

OOOH! You got it!!!! I dream of the fort at night! The best way to pass the time until the next trip is to plan it! I'm glad you had a great time!

We too stayed at the cabin back in June. We brought our golf cart and just loved riding around looking at all there is to see. And we didnt even come close to seeing it all. Now that we have our camper we CANT WAIT to get down there. Since spring break week isnt looking to good for us, we are trying for may 24-31. And it will be, shall i say, warmer at that time of year. Since ds(3) will be tall enough this time for splash mtn, I would like for it to be warmer so he can enjoy his first time on it. Plus we drive almost 1000 miles, and for some reason, the boys HAVE to go to the pool. :confused3

I'm glad you had a good time! Is that a Miniature Pinscher in your avatar? If it is, how did he/she do with outside noise while you were at FW?

Last week or two of May...
That is our favorite week to visit Disney. The weather is warm without being too humid. Really lovely. :thumbsup2

The one in my avatar is actually a Toy Fox Terrier, all 4lbs of him. We do have a Min Pin though, and he was with us as all. In addition to him we've got another Toy Fox Terrier who is a bit bigger. They LOVED FW!! We took them for walks around the loop several times a day. They were fine with the noise! At home our yard is fenced in so they get free run and EVERYONE on our block has a dog, so they are used to the noise. Believe it or not, it's the little Toy Fox Terrier who makes the noise, and to top it off he's so high pitched!! All 3 of them loved making new friends at FW, and I loved getting to stop and chat with all the pet owners in the loop. The children (uhhh I mean, dogs, hahaha) are looking forward to their next trip to FW in May!!

We have never been to Fort Wilderness. We stayed at the Caribbean Beach twice before and thought we could save money next time by camping. We don't own a camper. Is it possible to camp in tents or would that be impractical? Another option we considered is getting one cabin to cook meals in and the rest of us camping in tents. We have 4 adults and 7 kids in our party. Any opinions anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

If you are wanting to save money, I wouldn't suggest the cabins. They are about $300 a night. There are a couple of people on the DIS that rent their RV's out for a fee each night. They will set it up for you and have it stocked with everything you need but food. One of them is named Tina and I am sure Stacktester can post the link for you to see what she has available. Tina has a 5th wheel that would most likely accommodate all of you. I would also suggest you buy your groceries off site. The cheapest way to go would be to use tents, but that is totally up to you. It is really what your family likes to do and how much "roughin' it" you want to do. However, at FW, there is not much "roughin' it" as camping other places.

It's my understanding that Disney does rent some good sized tents.
There is a member of the board here that rents her 5th wheel, and we are using it this summer. You may want to consider that. It does accomodate a good sized family, but I think with as many as you have, you would also need a tent to accomodate everyone. This is Tina's site...you might want to check it out and see if it would suit your needs.

Hi----we were planning on when to come back while we were still camping at the Fort! We're hooked as well! This was our first long distance trip with our new 5th wheel. We usually camp close to home. Can't wait to go again and again and again and again.........!

We have a 39' 5th wheel, pull it with a HDT (29" long) and have a Dalmatain.
Planning to go to FW after the next Shuttle launch 10-08.

Which area will be the best for us, we are getting ready to call and make reservations.

The wife & & love to Dine at the different Disney restaurants, do you recomend the food plan.

Thank you,
Margie, Chef & Calvin (Dog)
