So after reading a number of trip reports.... I thought I'd give it a try.
Pre-trip notes....
DD and I have been going to WDW every year since 1998. Usually make it a summer trip. But she will be a senior in High School next year and has SO MUCH going on this summer ...... college visits, band camps, etc, etc, We came to the conclusion that we just would not be able to go.
And..... the band was planning to go for Spring Break - Music Days - April 09...... That has since been cancelled, but that is another story.
Anyway....around late October...... we had come to terms that we just would not be able to go in 2008.
Very Very SAD!!!
Then, her DBF family told her they were going to take the Land and Sea Cruise from Jan 3 to 9 (They are members of DVC and also visit WDW regularly....).... and tried to add her to their group. But
the cruise was booked and they couldn't add her.
So..... now .... not only was she sad
that we weren't going to WDW, but she could not go with DBF
Well, being the DISer that I am..... I saw on the DIS boards.... the discounts available for January..... so... I called!
Was able to get CBR for 7 nights!!!
And the next step was getting time off work the first week of Jan. I work retail... and not the best time to take off...... but some begging, and switching of schedules..... got it! 8 days off!!!
Called Continental... and got it! had to take the early 7:35am flight... but that was ok!!!
So we were set..... Leaving Jan 2, returning Jan 9. DBF and family would be on the cruise for the first half which leaves me and DD to spend time together..... then we would meet up with them on Sunday. She would be able to "hang out" with him for a couple days..... everyone was happy.
Now... being the OCD planner that I am..... but I admit, I've gotten better.... I don't drive her crazy like I used to....
I had a few ADRs, planned out the EMH days, etc..... and of course... I ALWAYS keep an eye on the weather. (once we went in Oct and were sandwiched between 2 huricanes!! but only had one day it rained for us!
)
As Jan 2 got closer.... they were forecasting RECORD LOW TEMPS!!! for the first couple days we arrived! Oh, man.... I never expected that! but it was still going to be warmer than being here in Ohio.
But we were going to have fun no matter what!!!!
So.... New Years Day arrives...... both of us exhausted from the holidays... I worked 4am New Years day.... and still had to finish packing that night. So we finished packing around 11pm.... which means we got like 3 1/2 to 4 hours of sleep. Had to leave by 5:15am for the airport.
Get to the airport.... everything going smooth so far.... had to wait till they de-iced the plane... first time I had that experience....
Then we were off......
We expected to be able to sleep on the plane.... but..... we got so lucky as to have a set of 3 year old TRIPLETS sitting right behind us!!! And... they definitely got enough sleep because they had more energy than I've ever seen before! So neither of us was able to nap.... but that's okay.... we were going to WDW!!!!
I will break for now.... and be back later with our VERY COLD, but exciting first day report!

I think it was about 48 degrees when we got there!!!
It was more crowded than I'd ever seen it!!!!
We could barely get in the door of the Electric Umbrella!!! Took forever to get our food and even longer to find a place to sit. Ended up sharing a table with a family that had their little ones sitting 2 to a chair!
