Our first MAYniac cruise pre-trip report..pics added! May 2/09 Western- Upd April 16

Great Pre-Trip report Laura...you have made me want to read more! I also am now thinking of making a pre-trip report as well....Thanks for adding more things for me to do :lmao: I look forward to meeting you on the Ship :thumbsup2

Not a problem Tazgirl, anytime I can help, just let me know :lmao: Glad you have joined in on mine though! :goodvibes

looking forward to reading! I am in the works for our 5/16 cruise we just booked. They are getting closer!

I spend far too many hours out of the day dreaming (thinking) about my next WDW trip, one that is already planned or one that isn’t yet, but is still in my head! Going totally crazy if there isn’t one already in the works for the future, I can be a little tough to live with and some days downright miserable. If I do have something planned, I am already upset that I don’t have another planned….really really really sick I know!

OK I read the first post only and can't wait to read the rest. I need to always have 1-2 vacations planned or I'm not happy either...I thought there was something wrong with me, I am so glad I have company in this feeling.
Can't wait to read the rest.

Part 2 -

Over the summer of 2007 we spoke at length about cruising. I had done a lot of background work and a couple of good friends who have had great experiences with DCL. Our biggest concern…..hmmm….wait a minute. DH’s (Scott) biggest concern is always first and foremost how much money we are spending:confused: , but putting that aside for a moment, our next concern: Both of us are very motion sensitive, very may be an understatement for sure! So…….how do we get onto this big beautiful boat and make it so that we actually can enjoy ourselves? That question has been answered but hasn’t been put into practice as of yet…..only time will tell!

Our first cruise ever was a Disney cruise in 2002 to celebrate our 25th anniversary...But unlike you with kids in college we had a 1st grader and a
5th grader, we didn't want to leave them home with someone but yet we wanted to be alone at times. Our friend had just come back form a Disney cruise...One problem...I am afraid of water and my DH gets seasick, so what were we to do, yep that's right, we booked the cruise and when I got to the port I said to my DH, take the kids because I'm going home! He made me get on the ship and we were armed with everything imagineable, Dramamine, non drowsy and drowsy in case we wanted to sleep the cruise away LOL
Sea bands and I can't even remember what else, because we NEVER needed them! So you may not need anything :)
We went on the Inaugural Western...I wanted 4 ports of call and only 2 sea days, remember I am afraid of the seas and DH gets sick, so the more ports and less sea days the better :) NOT!!! I know better now...Sea days RCOK!

Hey there! Thanks for reading, although it has taken me ages to reply...sorry! With Christmas and all my whole life seems to have taken a back seat.

I am going to write a new segment this week, time to get on with things!!!

Funny you mention all of this, I think DH and I have had a conversation about sea sickness once a week for the past 6 weeks or so. I can only hope that all is well with us! Just this past weekend, I was discussing the Ports of Call with DH and he is wondering if we will have any down time  I said when we get home he can have a rest!

Hi, Laura!
I just found your Pre-trippie, and it sounds so exciting!! I can't wait to read the actual report.
The DH and I are cruising the Western in September for our 10th anniversary. Congrats on your upcoming 25th. I think you definitely picked a great way to celebrate!
As far as planning and needing to have something booked all the time-I can definitely relate. I love, love, love planning and am thinking of starting my own Pre-TR soon just to be able to write about my plans! I totally understand how hard it is to get the DH's involved in making some decisions. My DH does love Disney and will tell everyone that he can about it, but he leaves almost all of the decision making up to me! I will admit that he does listen to me ramble on and on about stuff (kind of like I'm doing now), and he will give me his input, but he leaves the final decision up to me!
Anyway...I can't wait to read more about your plans...Are you dressing up for formal and pirate nights? What about your excursions?? Hope to read more soon!

Hey! Thanks for reading, isn't it funny how DH's are, I am so glad that my rambling for the most part is tolerated!

Let me know if you start your own report.

Part 6…..

Hmmmm…can’t believe I am still way back in March…way too much to catch up on! I am going to move this ahead very quickly because there is so much going on now that I should be posting on it instead of trying to remember what I did 8 months ago.

I will mention that since last March, I did make another quick trip to the Mouse House in November for 5 days with a friend. We FROZE…it was so so so cold when we were there,:scared1: I was wearing a shirt, sweatshirt and a coat! It was almost warmer here at home. That has made the wait for a nice warm trip in May that much more enticing! :beach:

Over Christmas there was barely a moment to think about the cruise and planning and I must admit that I have just been completely overwhelmed with LIFE. My DH had to move his Dad into an old age home, we have our whole basement ripped apart (renovating) and will probably spend every waking moment on it until we leave for our trip. Had to move our son back to his University, our oldest daughter graduated with her Masters in Education, our youngest (17 years old) is going to have her tonsils out in March, and it is WINTER. :sad2: If you have read the first part of my trip report you will notice that I hate winter, and this season has been long, dreary and freakin’ cold! YUCK!

Ahhh…now back to January. It is the new year and our cruise is coming up very quickly now! :cool1: Our cruise meet thread is moving along and we are looking seriously at Fish Extenders, bracelets and our meet. We have had a few changes with people not keeping their reservations and some new people on board too, which has been nice.:)

DH and I are still humming and hawing on our excursions, we are going to have good look this weekend and narrow it down. We will be able to book our excursions on February 16th, that is D day!!!! :thumbsup2 I am still leaning toward the Mexican cooking class in Cozumel, am going to try to let DH :groom: choose the excursion for Grand Cayman. Notice how I said I was going to try:scratchin We did decide that if we are going to do a water excursion that we will order some throw away contact lenses for him and that way he can use a mask and not have to worry about not seeing.

Today, I bit the bullet! We have a very good camera, and Canon S3 IS, which we love, it is a great camera. BUT……I have been very worried about taking it on our excursions, on the beach etc. For one, worrying about leaving it sitting in our bag on the beach is an issue, also worrying about sand getting into the lens, and/or getting it wet. As much as I would love to be able to have it on the beach to take great pics etc., just can’t think about something happening to it. It is just not worth having something happen to it….soooooo….I did the next best thing! I bought another camera! :rotfl2: I bought an Olympus 850, which is a shockproof and waterproof (up to 10 feet underwater) camera. I bid on it on Ebay for $136.00, and am excited now for it to come. Now we shouldn’t have to worry so much when we are on excursions etc., and we will be able to take pictures in the water…..woohoo!!!! When it comes, guess I will have to take some pics in the bathtub or something to practice.:rotfl: I broke the news tonight to DH that I bought it, he really didn’t say much of anything except to ask again why we needed it…. :confused3 WHEW!:cheer2:

I must have felt like spending money today, since I was on Ebay I had a quick look at the Fish Extenders. I would really like to make my own and can be pretty crafty, but if I have learned one thing lately, it is to try to find a way of making things a little easier on myself. As much as I would like to make it myself, really, for the money and the ease, I ordered one of those too! ::yes:: I asked the seller if she could make one with two pockets only and she obliged…..when it comes I will post a pic of it. I am so excited, can’t wait to see it……now, not sure how I am going to get that one past DH. :upsidedow He has heard me talking about the FE but I don’t know if he is really listening and letting it sink in. Guess time will tell when it shows up! If you are on our cruise…stop reading here!!! :tilt: :tilt: :tilt: SPOILER ALERT!!!! I have been thinking about what I can buy to put in for the other participants, will probably but some little note books that have a Canadian Flag on them, plus I picked up some little Disney Diaries etc., also some glow bracelets (great for pirate night). Not sure what else I will add, guess I need to think about it a little more. If you peeked and it isn’t a surprise….too bad for you!:p

I am going to start paying some attention to the magnet designs to put on our cabin door. Has anyone else made these? Any great ideas? I would like to have something that has “our 25th anniversary”….hmmm! Can’t wait to see DH’s face when I pull those out! He is really going to have to be a trooper and I can say that to this point he has been, just not sure where that line is, so I need to be careful not to cross it.:goodvibes

Coming up……

Excursions, Cirque tickets, deciding on dining, car rental?

Part 7........

We have had a huge snow storm yet again....it is just awful! I can't stand the snow!! Keep thinking, "hot sun, beach, waves, cruise ship....ahhh." That is my new Mantra!

My new camera came today, I will post some pics of it and insert here:

I have spent much of my week weighing the pro's and con's of which car rental to use, and how many days to book it. Should we keep it the whole time we are on the ship just for the ease of it all, driving to the port on cruise day and not needing to drop it off and then just being able to hop back into it when the cruise is over and head to Disney. We need to have the rental for 3 days prior to our cruise as we are arriving on Wednesday morning.

The prices really vary and you really need to pop in every code and give them a try. Because we need to have a transfer back to WDW after the cruise it really makes sense to just rent the car and let it sit. By the time we pay for the 3 days, and then a transfer back to WDW, it would work out to pretty much the same as renting the car for the whole time. BUT...then I realized we had to pay to park at the Port.....YUCK!!!! It was easy to decide after that! I think we will rent and return it to the Port and then get Happy Limo to take us back to WDW with a quick stop at the Supermarket on the way. Once I actually book it, hopefully later today, I will post what we paid, pretty sure we are going to go with Dollar.

I don't know where you are staying but if you stay at the Radisson pre night you can park their free. Plus the DIS meet is usually held there.

Funny you mention that, yes, we will be staying at the Radisson. Will rethink it all again. I had better put this down on paper...lol!

So far we have:

Dollar rental : 3 days (wed to sat) midsize with promo rate and taxes, and extra fee to drop off at port....$154.28

I believe Happy Limo is $115.00 + tip? 20.00 = 135.00

Total is 289.28

Alamo rental: 10 day rental, compact car, drop off at swan dolphin

Total is $325.30

Not a heck of a lot of difference. What is easier, returning the car, shuttle back to the ship, then use limo service back to WDW?

or

Keep the car, take shuttle from Radisson to ship, then back on the shuttle to Radisson after, drive ourselves to WDW?

Part 8- scared! :scared1:

I posted some pics of my/our (who am I kidding....my;) ) camera.
IMG_6214.jpg
I am scared to death to stick it under the water! :lmao: I really want to just put it in but I have this inner voice saying, "no, don't do it" That is really sick I know! No biggie, just take the camera and stick it in the water and take a picture, right? ARGH!:scratchin

TUB WITH WATER-----INSERT CAMERA INTO WATER-----TAKE PICTURE

:sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

Am going to try to get over this anxiety today! Will post some pics as soon as I get up the nerve!

Here is the pic of my first pics taken under water in the kitchen sink.

This week I finally booked our car rental and did end up with a great deal (or at least I think so) Booked with Dollar Car Rentals out of MCO, pick up Wednesday and drop off Saturday morning.(3 days) Mid size car using the promo code OOAG, and the 15.00 to drop it off at a diffent location, the total is $119.44. It worked out to $72.00 for the 3 days and then the taxes etc.

I am really happy with that rate, I don't think that we could have done any better as I have been following that stuff for over a month now.

For our transfer back to Disneyworld after the cruise, we booked with Happy Limo, they will stop for a 15 minute shopping spree which will give us enough time to grab a few things for our room at BWV. The rate on that is $121.00 ....I know, I know, a little more than Disney transfers. I just think that it will be so nice to be able to just have someone picking only us up at the Port and then being able to have the shopping stop will be a great help. Alright....some of that stop will be to buy BEER...:confused3 and milk, and cereal....fruit...:rotfl: and more BEER

That is a tough one, but I think I would do the 3 day rental and the limo for the return, unless you want to pick up things after the boat and before WDW then I would do the car for 10 days. I look at the number of shuttles that you would need, as they are time consuming. Waiting for a limo and going straight to WDW has to be quicker.

Hey there... just finished reading your report...
it sounds like reading about me...
Disneyholic, love planning, HATE, HATE, HATE winter, cold and all this ugly white stuff:rotfl2:

Just found your pre-TR. We are also going to WDW and a Western Criuse for our 25th anniversary in May. We'll just miss you as our cruise starts on the 16th.

Looking forward to reading about your choices. We're going to do the cooking excursion as I've heard some really great reviews.
