Our first HOA meeting...

Tonight is our first Home-owner's association meeting. Unfortunately, DH has to work, so I'll be going solo.

I don't know whether I'm dreading it since I'm sure most of it will be boring, or whether I'm looking forward to the chance to maybe meet some people from around the neighborhood.

Ours aren't too boring. There are things I'd rather do, but it's nice getting caught up on what's happening. Just don't let them sucker you in. I'm the VP of our HOA just because I felt bad since no one else was running. The sad part is that we had 2 positions to fill and 2 people running, but the other woman running didn't get elected.

Some HOA can be real amusing to watch and participate in. At our old house, the HOA decided to sue a group home for the mentally ******** that was in our neighborhood. The lawsuit was a total waste of time and effort (the federal housing laws are real clear on this issue and totally preempt state law) and cost the association some of expense without any benefit.

The lawyer representing the HOA ended up being a probate judge here in Houston and was the judge in the Anna Nicole mess.

In other words, HOAs can be a great deal of fun if you like to watch human behavior.

Well, I'm back. This was for the whole community, not just our small sub-section. No one was really interested in mingling, so I'm glad I took my cross stitch. I actually got a lot done on my inlaw's Christmas present. So it wasn't a total waste of time, and there was some information worth knowing.

Our sub-section meeting (sub-community?) is in January. I suspect I'll be at that one, too.
