Our day at sea- we had been getting up fairly early every day and we were really looking forward to sleeping in. We knew we wanted to play bingo at some time this day- DS8 had really been looking forward to bingo and we hadn't found a chance yet to play. When we looked at the Navigator the night before, we had a bit of a problem. The only 2 times of bingo were 10:00am and during the prep for the graduation thing. We had Palo ressies for 11:00am and were worried we wouldn't be done with bingo in time. But that was our only option. So DH and I had to get up early enought to be dressed for Palo by 10:00am- we figured the boys could just roll out of bed and go. They NEVER sleep very late. In fact DS8 always wakes up at 7:00am- no matter what time he goes to bed. But with our very dark, cool rooms they slept and slept and slept. Finally at 9:50am I had to wake them up. DS8 was the last to wake up, but we just had to whisper, " Do you want to play bingo?" and he was up in a flash! Of course, we didn't win, but we were so close! LOL! but we had a good time. We just barely made our Palo time while the boys stayed and watched the comedian. While I was dressing for Palo, there was a knock on the door. It was Jayson, our room steward. He had a package for me! It was my birthday! DH had bought me the Mickey pearl necklace ( can't remember what it is called). He had asked for it to be delivered on my birthday but they said that all cruise gifts would be waiting for us in our room when we boarded. But when we boarded, it wasn't there. So DH went to guest services-evidentally, it had been misplaced so they said they would find one and deliver it...on my birthday! It was a sweet gift, but my real gift would come later!
Oh, Palo was good! We were so stuffed we were hurting. Of course, we hadn't really experienced hunger pains in several day! I had the beef tenderloins and they just melted in your mouth! DH had the pasta and it was great also. Our friends had ressies at 11:30am- I asked them if they liked it and they said, " Yeah, it was okay." Just Okay? what is wrong with these people!
Speaking of our friends, I was really worried about vacationing with friends but it was great. We didn't try to do everything together. Our boys enjoyed having an outgoing friend around-even though he did teach them how to make that ringing noise on your crystal cup-UGH! DS15 liked having another teenager to hang with- didn't hurt that it was a pretty girl! Actually, they are pretty good friends from church and very comfortable with each other. There is enough age difference between them for them to not really consider each other as an option, if you know what I mean. DF's husband was really unsure about cruising-we had to talk him into it. So I really worried about him having a good time. But he really liked it-even talked about doing it again! On the last night, my friend said, " We had a great time vacationing together and we still like each other!"
In the afternoon, the guys all went to the Cruisin for Trivia as I went to pack. Much to the pleasure of DS8, they won again. But I was sad that our cruise was coming to an end. We had always called it a once in a lifetime trip-it was just so much money for our family. We could go to Disneyland 3x for what it cost to cruise.
We decided to go to the early showing of Disney Dreams-freeing up our evening. It was cute. We explored the boat a bit before sending the boys to the graduation prep. DH and I did a little more exploring while the boys were at grad prep when I got the biggest surprise and the best birthday gift ever. DH mentioned, " I really think next time we should do a 7 day so we have more time just to relax. how much do we save by booking it while we are onboard?" Seriously? Another Cruise? I thought the only way we'd ever be able to cruise again was if DS8 chose it as his MAW! So we went to the cruise booking desk and booked a NYE cruise for Dec. '08. We considered one room with a varanda, but for an extra $2000, we don't need to see the water from our room! Plus I liked our rooms! unfortunatly they no longer had our connecting 10 on deck 7- we could go to deck 2, but I really liked 7. We went with cat.11 next to each other on deck 7. We might delay the cruise to 2009- we are going on a big DL trip next year so maybe we should spread them out- plus DS8 might use his MAW trip next year. But we don't really care- the boys ( and I ) are thrilled at the prospect of another cruise, whether it be in 1 1/2 years or 2 1/2 years. Heck, we've been planning this one for 8 years!
Okay, back to graduation ceremony. They did not want to go at all,but I forced them-afterall, they got a free shirt and hat! Plus now they were a little happier at the thought of another cruise! Graduation was cute but probably more for the younger crowd. And DS8 was down right cranky-probably tired, right?
After graduation we went to our last dinner-Parrot Cay. Another great dinner. We would be sad to leave Januar and Savio. After dinner, we went to see Michael Harrison, the comedian, again. And then back to the room to finish packing. We went to the farwell party for a bit ( the boys weren't really crazy about character pictures) and then we all-including friends family- went on deck 10 to toast our trip with a couple of bottles of sparking cider. Then sadly enough, it was time to go to bed for the last time. By this time, DS8 was very cranky- he needed sleep. But then we realized we had never ordered room service. Another thing the boys had been looking forward to. DS8 didn't care to stay up, but the rest of us ordered a cheese plate, BLT and fries ( we found out later our friends had ordered room service too). Not that we were hungry at all- but that hadn't stopped us yet! The BLT was really good- have to remember that for the next cruise. Oh I love saying that...the next cruise! Also, when we got back to the room, the pillow cases we had dropped off to be signed were in our room. The boys didn't know about them, and they were thrilled. but the photo mat was not there. DH called guest services and they remembered us dropping it off, but then they couldn't find it. We told them it was no big deal- it was only a few dollars. They kept apologizing even when we kept reassuring them. A couple of hours later, we got a call from guest services asking us to come down. They had found another mat and had it signed- it wasn't the same size ( actually a 6"x8" which worked better for the picture I wanted to put in it). They kept apologizing and we told them they had done far more than we had expected. Yes, we complemented them profusely on our survey.
I finally fell into bed around 1:00am. A little bit later, I woke up to DS8 crying in his sleep. He had wet the bed. He hadn't done that in years!! So I stripped him and the bed- I wasn't sure whether to call the room steward, but it hadn't gone through the sheets yet, so I just left him a note for the next day. Hope that was okay. I then went to laundry and washed and dried his jammies while DH bathed DS8. We then put him in bed with him when I noticed he felt warm. Maybe I was imagning that- but I gave him a dose of tylenol.
We kept DS8 away from people as much as possible the next morning, even though he said he felt fine and was no longer warm. Disembarkment was very easy. There was a different line for people with passports- this was my first cruise so I'm not sure if that is how it always was but I thought I heard someone say that they had just started this. Sure was glad we had our passports!
The men took the shuttle to the hotel and retrieved the cars and came and picked us up. Very easy and uncrowded- maybe because we had left fairly early. We said goodbye to our friends and headed to KSC. We had only been there an hour or so when DS8 started crying. Once again, he felt warm. I called our hotel ( CI&S) and explained the problem and asked how early we could check in- I thought DH could take me and DS8 to the hotel and return to KSC with the other boys. The hotel was wonderful and said we could check in anytime. As I was sitting with DS8 waiting for DH, a security lady from KSC came and asked us if there was something wrong. I explained that my son wasn't feeling well and we were going back to the hotel. She offered to take us to the nurse on staff. She took his temperature- 102.5! She gave us the address of a walk in clinic- so we spent the day in the waiting room. The doctor asked if he had been exposed to strep. He'd been on a cruise, who knows what he had been exposed to! She gave him an antibiotic and 20 hours of sleep later, he was feeling much better! We were very glad that he didn't get sick a day earlier- and we really hope we didn't expose anybody else on the cruise ( but we did keep him away from people once we realized that maybe he was more than just tired).
So that is the end of my trip report. We are very anxious to get home ( we are travelling home slowly and are going to stop in Houston for DS8 to see the cardiologist on the 31st- it sounded like a good idea when we planned it, but now that we have been gone from home for 2 weeks, we all are just anxious to get home!) so we can start planning our next cruise!
