Our First Anniversary @Sports, Old Key West AND Pop! TR finished, new TR started!!

We are staying at THREE places. All Star Sports the first night, then OKW for five, and then Pop for the last 2 nights.

Oh fun! I've stayed at the All Star Sports...years ago when I went there for Nationals when I was on a gymnastics team. We stayed at OKW for the first time in June and LOVED it! It's our new "home"! I'm going to be doing a TR over x-mas break about the trip so I hope you'll join in!

How exciting your trip is almost here! I can't wait to talk to you when you get back!

Ok so one more update before we go!!!

We took our Christmas card pictures tonight before the rehearsal dinner we were going to, so I wanted to share! I love these, I'm so glad we were able to do cards this year...we were just so busy last year we didnt get a chance. So this is our first married Christmas card! Enjoy!

I love your pictures! The last two are my favorites. Such a pretty tree too! :santa:

We're back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We got back last night from a WONDERFUL trip!!! It was truly magical, we LOVED Old Key West, I fell in love w/it. If any of you know me, you know how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE Wilderness Lodge, and seriously, OKW might have it beat. I'm not sure.

We just had the best time, did some new things, relaxed, and loved every second of it. I was sad to leave but really ready to be home. I have all my pictures on the computer, bc I uploaded them every night so I wouldn't run out of room. But I have to admit now, I did not take nearly as many pictures as I normally do. I found myself just wanting to sit back and enjoy it all, w/out having to worry about taking lots of pictures and missing things. But I have plenty I think, and will hopefully get this thing started soon! But with Christmas 2 days away! things are hectic, for you all I'm sure too. So hopefully this week! Stay tuned!

I KNOW! I might be. I love them both for different reasons, but I never thought any resort would come that close to WL!

Merry Christmas!!!

Disney_39.jpg

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas spending time with loved ones! We had a great time, we went to DH's parent's house Christmas Eve, they have a big party every year before their church service. I just love going to service on Christmas Eve, really reminds you of the true meaning of Christmas, and it's just beautiful with all the music and candlelight. It's also the church we got married in a year ago so it brought back memories of that too, with the tree and all the decorations. After church we went to my parent's house to spend the night. My brother was there too, and we stayed up till 2 am watching home movies and just hanging out. We had Christmas morning there, and spent most of the day with them. We got some great stuff, and I was SO excited to give them their gift. I haven't posted about it here bc my mom is on the Dis and I couldn't ruin the surprise. But look what DH made for them...

Mickey light post for camping!!

032.jpg

033.jpg

They were very surprised. The directions for it are over on the Camping board, lots of people at Ft. Wilderness have them and my mom has always wanted one. DH has been working on it over at his parents for a few months now. I'm so proud of him! It's awesome, and I can't wait to take it on our next trip in February. More details on that later though!

Anyway, we had a really great day, I GOT A NEW CAMERA!!! Andy gave it to me, I love it. I had a good time taking pictures all day long yesterday playing with it. I also got some new Disney movies I didnt have...Toy Story 2, Sleeping Beauty, and Peter Pan. AND, a new house for my collection. It's supposed to look like Wilderness Lodge, I think. My parents gave it to us. I love it. So that's my Disney part of the update.

And just a few of the MANY pictures I took yday, I just think it's beautiful. My new camera takes b/w and sepia pictures and I love it. My parents tree and beautiful Jake....

Saturday December 13, 2008

I could not believe this day was finally here!!! This anniversary trip that I’d been planning and looking forward to since right after our honeymoon a year ago!!!

I must start out with describing the days leading up to it, for new readers. My best friend Elizabeth got married the night before we left. So needless to say we were EXHAUSTED. I also finished school and classes that week. The wedding was beautiful, and so much fun. I have a few pics from my camera, but I will def. share prof. ones eventually bc it was just so cool. Here’s a few…

Walking down the aisle…

The only picture I ended up with of DH and I, at the very end of the night.

Anyway. We didn’t get home that night from the wedding until almost midnight, and pretty much crashed. Thank goodness I had everything pretty much packed, except for a few last minute things we’d need the next morning. I was exhausted, I’d been at the church since 2 that afternoon and it had been SUCH a long week. I was READY TO GO!!!

I set the alarm for 5:30 the next morning, and thank goodness had no problem getting up! We were ready and had the car loaded fairly quickly. It was COLD…I took this as we left…

077.jpg

076.jpg

We had to make one stop, at the grocery store to get ice for the cooler since we were taking the rest of our anniversary layer of cake and some other drinks and stuff. While at the store I remembered we had forgotten the box w/the small Christmas tree I wanted to take, so we had to go back to get that. Finally, we were ready to go!

We made pretty good time, and didn’t make a stop until near Savannah just to use the restroom. I started getting really tired and grouchy, I think it was just exhaustion catching up w/me. I slept a little but not much. I brought my laptop and our converter w/me so I could plug it in and watched the new Disney planning dvd I got in the mail a day or two before. It was pretty much the same one though, they just added the Celebrations stuff in it.

We stopped again on the other side of Jacksonville, FL to use the restroom and DH put more gas in the car. We figured we could make it the rest of the way w/out stopping and we did! That’s pretty good, all the way to Disney (about 8 hrs) and just TWO STOPS!

As we got into Orlando we were deciding what to do. I had been wanting to try Sweet Tomatoes, a buffet I’d always heard about. We don’t have one anywhere near us, and I knew there was one in Orlando. I put it into the GPS and it looked like it would be very easy to find. So we decided to stop and eat, since I wasn’t sure we’d like the food court at All Star Sports, and we weren’t sure what we were going to do that night. Plus we didn’t stop for lunch anywhere, just had a few snacks in the car.

We had to get off on International Drive, and go over towards Kirkman Rd. I was kinda excited, bc DH has never seen Orlando at all except for Disney. I had no clue it would end up being such a NIGHTMARE. The GPS had us go the wrong way through an intersection, and we saw the restaurant but it was too late, so we had to get back on I-4, and then turn around and come back. We started to just say forget it, but wanted to try one more time. So back we went down International Drive, and into lane we needed. It only took about FIFTEEN MINUTES to get turned, bc it was just a horrible intersection and traffic was not moving. Ugh. Finally we get around to the other side and sat in traffic again. Crazy. We could have walked out of the car and over the median and in the front doors of the restaurant, it was just crazy over there trying to get in the parking lot. So we finally get there, and it was yummy. I love salad bars, and they had all kinds of stuff. Soups, bread, ice cream, and tons of salads. Mmmm. We filled our bellies and I was ready to get to my happy Disney place!

We waited FOREVER to get back out of that parking lot. It was just insanity. And to get back in the interstate it was all kinds of crazy so we ended up down by Universal Studios. Which would have been cool for DH to see, but he was just sick of the traffic and ready to get out of the car and be there. On top of that we were both just beyond tired…from the night before, getting up early, driving all day, everything. I’m usually in SUCH a good mood when we get there, but I was just ready to get some rest. Not to mention I’d been fighting a cold for a week or two, and I thought I was over it but my head was killing me and my throat and ears were hurting. NOT. GOOD.

Finally, almost 2 hours after we’d stopped, we were pulling up on this…

WDWOctober2008027-1.jpg

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in my happy place finally!!!

We followed the signs to get to the All Star Resorts, and were finally there! Our home, for one night.

We checked in pretty quickly, and got all our information. There was one small issue that aggravated me. I had made the reservation before we got our Annual Passes, so when I called back to get the discount I had a credit to go back on my credit card for the extra I‘d paid before the discount. The guy checking me in said I’d have to come back the next day to get it credited back to my credit card, or we could use it as a credit at the resort for food, merchandise, etc. I knew we wouldn’t spend it that night, and didn’t understand why he couldn’t just do it that night? I told him we were leaving in the morning, but he said he had to leave the money there, and we’d have to come back before we checked out to get the credit issued. Whatever. We went back to the car and drove around to our building. We were way around near the edge of the All Star Music resort. There were a whole bunch of tents in the parking lot, vendor type stuff…from Pop Warner I was guessing?? I was a bit worried, but since we were only there one night I didn’t care too much. We got a few things out of the car and went off to find out room. It was WAAAAY down on the end of a long breezeway, near some woods….

088.jpg

089.jpg

079.jpg

We put our stuff inside, and the first thing we noticed, other than the small size of the room, was the STRONG smell of bleach and cleaner. Yuck. But at least it was clean? It was a fine room, just small. Growing up we always stayed at the values, but its been years since I have, and I guess I’ve gotten spoiled by staying deluxe and in our camper at the fort.

It was fairly cold that night, and I was just feeling worse and worse so DH made a few trips to bring our things in just for the night. We had talked about going to a park that night, just to see fireworks or something, but we were both feeling so bad and tired, we decided just to take it easy and not exhaust ourselves the first night. We thought we might go swimming or something, just hang out at the resort. We decided to go take a walk to the pool/lobby area and see what it was like. Pictures along the way…

081.jpg

There were people EVERYWHERE. Loud, noisy, crazy people. I don’t know if it was just being tired, and feeling bad, or what but I just did NOT have a good impression of the place. I had stayed there before and didn’t remember it being that way, but it just seemed dirty and trashy. And loud. I don’t know. I wasn’t feeling it. We went in and decided to go ahead and get a refillable mug since we’d be able to use it all week. We got some hot chocolate and walked around the store for awhile, and went and felt the pool water but it seemed really cold, and neither of us needed to increase our sick chances. So we just went back to the room to watch some tv and relax.

Pics of the pool on the way back…

Back at the room….

DH had a few drinks…

090.jpg

It wasn’t bad, but it just seemed SO small. I had a feeling I wouldn’t be up too early, so I called and asked for a late checkout, which was no problem at all. I took a long hot bath and took some cold medicine. When I got out of the tub, which was about 7:30, DH was already sound asleep. I couldn’t believe it was our first night in Disney and we were just ready for bed. I watched tv for a few minutes and then decided to just give in and SLEEP. I knew that I would thank myself later, and we still had the whole week. I was worried about getting sick, and knew that sleep would be the best thing for it. With dreams of the rest of the week and just a few worries, I went off to sleep in our tiny bed….

Next up: welcome HOME!

Sorry your trip didn't start off too well. I'm sure the rest of the week would more than make up for it, right? I mean, come on, it's Disney. :goodvibes
Can't wait for more.
And speaking of bed. :faint:

I love that mickey santa! Just joining in for the fun. I can't wait to hear all about it.

Thanks! I'm glad you're here, just in time! Thanks for reading!

It sucked that first night but I've never had a trip start out bad like that, so I've been lucky so far I guess?!?
And you're so right, it IS Disney and I was trying so hard to stay upbeat and not worry too much!!
I hear ya, I'm headed to bed now!

Thanks for reading guys! And enjoy the rest of the weekend!

The wedding and christmas pictures are beautiful!! The light pole is absolutely beautiful!!!!! I'm so impressed that your DH made it!!!!! Too cool!

I love the ornament your mom has that says When you stop believeing in Santa you get underwear... Too funny!!!

Sounds like an exhausting first day!! :upsidedow Your the second person whose TR I read who didn't like their value resort. It was the same thing too, loud, noisy, to overwhelming and just not fun! I've never stayed at a value and I'm willing to bet, given that review, I wouldn't like it either! Luckily, both you and the other person only stayed 1 night! It would stink to be stuck in that situation for a whole week!!

I can't wait to read about OKW and see some pics!!

Thanks! I'm SO proud of him for building that. He had the directions to go by but still...he worked so hard on it. I love it!

It was a LONG day. I knew I'd be tired after all that right before we left, but knew I would rather go ahead and get to Disney than wait and rest a day. I'm still glad we did it, it was worth having that extra night of Disney magic. And I was surprised that I did not enjoy All stars, but I think it might have been more about how tired we were, or Pop is just alot better bc things were better when we stayed there. But more about that later!!

Sunday December 14, 2008

I had left off the night before, DH and I made it a VERY early night, both of us asleep by 7:30. crazy. I woke up one time around 8pm, my mom sent me a picture message of my kitty, she was staying at my parents' house while we were gone. I was right back to sleep, and sleep GOOD the rest of the night. I woke up around 5 and was WIDE AWAKE. I guess that's what going to bed so early will do! I laid there for awhile, just letting it all sink in that I was at DISNEY. I was scared for a moment I'd be feeling bad, that my throat and cold stuff would be worse, but thank goodness I felt TONS better, and had no pain at all!!

I was debating on whether to go back to sleep or not, since it was SO early. But I was pretty wide awake. I laid there for awhile, and then a little before 6 am the alarm went off! UGH. I would have been really upset had I still been trying to sleep. It did wake DH up though, and we laid there and talked for a few minutes. I was like, do you want to sleep, or get up and do something? He said he couldn't go back to sleep, so whatever I wanted to do. It hit me that we'd never been to park opening at the MK before, and this might be the only chance we'd have since we are NOT usually morning people. YAY! It didn't open until 9 am, so we had plenty of time but we did have to take stuff back to the car, and go get my credit taken care of at registration. I took a long bath and kinda took my time getting ready. We watched some news and looked at the weather, which still looked good-no rain in the forecast, but it was going to be warmer than I'd liked, the high was at least about 80 everyday.

We finished getting ready and got everything loaded back in car, and drove around to the main building. A Magical Express bus had just pulled in and there was a looong line of people checking in. This is why I was so aggravated about having to come back. I didn't understand why I couldn't have just had the extra money credited back to my card the night before, so we could have avoided waiting in that darn line! whatever. They ended up adding quite a few more people checking people in so the line didn't take TOO long, and we were done. We decided to head on over to the MK, and just go to OKW later in the day when they'd more likely have our room ready!

I haven't been to the TTC to park in years, but we had no problem finding it and getting in. We parked in the Pluto section, almost all the way at the end. There was a tram waiting and we jumped on! My mom called around that time to see what we were doing, and was impressed we were up and going that early!

It was about 8:30 or so when we got on the tram, so I thought we'd have time to get on the monorail and to the MK. By the time we were getting there it was about 10 minutes until 9, and I could tell the opening festivities were already over. BOOOOO. I was sad, I really wanted to see it, but oh well. I found out later they do it earlier and we had JUST missed it. Oh well. We were still in my favorite park, on our first day of our trip and I was a happy happy girl!

I was loving all the Christmas decorations, even though I've seen them over and over, I love it everytime. The castle looked beautiful, and even though it was a pretty gloomy day everything was just amazing. I stopped first at Guest Relations to get our anniversary pins which we didn't have yet. DH loved this of course, lol. But I wanted them.

We walked slowly down Main St, and stopped for a picture...

We headed off to Tommorowland...it tends to be our tradition, not sure why. We went first to Space Mountain, thinking the line would be short and DH could get on pretty fast since I don't ride. It wasn't open yet, so he got a FastPass for later...I think it was for like 11 am. Then we went to our favorite, the PeopleMover. My traditional feet picture...

005-1.jpg

While riding I got to thinking...hey, Space Mountain isnt open yet... I wonder if the lights are on? We saw this YEARS ago when I was a kid and I've always remembered that, and I knew DH would get a huge thrill out of it. As we went inside we could tell immediately that they were! SO cool, and he loved it. I tried to take pictures but they're pretty blurry...

006-1.jpg

after this, I asked DH if he wanted to ride the Astro Orbiter. I dont do that either, but there was hardly any line, and he was interested. I was getting hungry since I hadn't eaten anything, and he'd had poptarts in the room. I told him I'd meet him at the tables underneath the ride, so I could find some breakfast while he was riding. I went to the little stand right underneath the ride and got a water and a cream cheese pretzel. YUMMMMM...

009.jpg

Took a picture while I waited..

010.jpg

I only waited maybe 10 minutes for him to come back, he liked it, said it was pretty cool and he could see everything up there. We shared the rest of my pretzel and then headed over to Buzz Lightyear.

Now, I am NOT good at this. at all. I never can seem to get it figured out, how to hit the targets. DH has beat me every. time. Until now..I dont know how I did it, but he was beating me the entire time, and right at the end apparently I got lucky and hit something, because I ended up with WAY more points. I tried to take a picture but couldn't get it to work...so I don't remember how many points we had but I totally killed him. He was NOT happy. Ride picture...

011.jpg

After this we knew Space Mountain was open ( I think it opened at like 10 or 10:30?) so we headed over there. It was too early for his FastPass but he was ready to ride and we were ready to move out of Tommorowland. The standby line was only like five minutes so he went on in. I walked around in the arcade/store for a few minutes, and then just sat on a bench outside and waited on him. I didn't wait long, and he was out. He had fun, as usual.

took pictures while I was waiting...

013.jpg

012.jpg

I headed towards the pathway over to Toontown but it was closed for some reason? :confused3 So we just went the other way into Fantasyland. We went on Pooh first, because I was wearing my Pooh shirt. And it was the first thing we came too. I love the part towards the end when its supposed to be like you're floating in water. love it. Such a cute ride, and it cracks DH up which I enjoy.

We decided to skip out on Snow White, it's nostalgic I suppose but kinda boring and I wasnt interested, oddly enough. So we talked about going on Dumbo or the Carousel but they had longer lines and we didn't feel like waiting. We knew we'd be back, and were just kind of enjoying ourselves and taking it easy. We headed towards Mickey's Philarmagic, but stopped for this on the way...

015.jpg

love it.

I also love the back of the castle..

014.jpg

There was a show starting when we walked in so we didn't have to wait at all!! score!!! I loved it, as always.

When we came out I had to run to the restroom, and then we went on Small World. I get less and less enchanted with this ride every time we go I think, but I have to ride it once.

We were both getting very excited for our most favorite ride, HAUNTED MANSION. I'm a little obsessed with it. We had to wait for a few minutes to be let in the front door. I LOVED IT. I told DH I could ride it all day long. seriously.

We walked on through Frontierland, and I asked DH if he wanted to ride Big Thunder Mountain. He never has, and the line wasn't too bad. Again, I don't ride it so I just waited out front. I've never actually been over into this area, so I walked around some and found the end where people come out and you can see part of the ride. I liked this since I could try to take a picture of him riding. I waited maybe 20 minutes until I saw him go up on the ride. Pictures...

021.jpg

022.jpg

As he came off it has started sprinking, which I was NOT thrilled with. We walked over towards the buildings so we'd be under cover if it started pouring. Luckily it never did. We went over to Pirates, and by this time we were both hungry. We decided to ride and then find some lunch. The ride was fun as always. We discussed either Ray's, or Pecos Bill. Since it was so much closer we headed to Pecos Bill. They were fairly busy, so we decided what we wanted and I went and found a table. I was in the middle of a bunch of people who had Mousefest tshirts and lanyards on, which I thought was pretty cool. I'd love to go some time. I was telling DH and he couldn't believe there were people who are more into Disney than me!

He got a double bacon cheeseburger meal, and we split it. I just took one meat patty actually, w/out the bread since I havent been eating bread. And got tons of lettuce, mushrooms and pickles. SO GOOD. By this time it was a little after 12 I think, and we were ready to go check in to our new home! It felt weird being "homeless" and we joked about it. I've never done that before that I remember, being in between homes so I was anxious to go see OKW and get our room!

We headed towards the front, walking through a few stores on the way out just looking around. Took these before we left...

002.jpg

001-1.jpg

We hopped back on the monorail to the TTC and had to wait a little bit for a tram to get back to the car. We had no problem following the signs to the DTD area and Old Key West! I was getting so excited, and loved the big "Welcome Home" we got from the guard coming in. It was BEAUTIFUL driving into the resort, and I could not WAIT to see our room. I could tell I was going to like this place!!!

Next up-our home for the week, and our anniversary dinner!

Great update! I love your Osborne Lights Photopass pic too! When we went the lines for that shot were so long we skipped it (and now I'm sorry). Can't wait to hear about your stay at OKW and the rest of your trip. :goodvibes

Sorry you missed the MK opening, I'm sure one of these days you will see it. Looks like you guys had a good morning, got to do a lot. That's so cool you got that picture of your DH on BTMR, perfect timing. I can't wait to see OKW west as well. When we stayed at POR many moons ago we rented a boat and took a ride down and passed by it and I loved the theming from the outside, can't wait to see what pictures you have.

So I was MIA from the DIS for about a month due to work, just found out that you took another trip  Yay! I'm excited to catch up and read all about it so far :surfweb:
