Our End-of-the-Summer Celebration! *TR LINK ADDED!!*

Hi everyone! A great big to my latest and greatest (OK, maybe not greatest!) pre-trip report!

For those of you who may not have read my last trip report, I'm wdwgirl03 (aka Sarah) and as you can tell by my username, I am, well, a Disney World girl! I've been to Disney World 14 times (somehow I can still keep track...who knows how much longer that will last), Disneyland twice, and just can't seem to get enough.

My most recent trip took place last December with my dad and one of my sisters. (You can read that TR HERE if you'd like to!) We had an awesome time going before Christmas and as soon as that trip was over, it was time to plan another one. After all, we are Disney Vacation Club members so it's hard for us to stay away for too long.

It's actually quite funny because shortly after the new American Idol attraction opened, my sisters and I, who are big Idol fans, started having Disney withdrawl. We kept saying how much we wanted to go back to Disney and about a week ago, I was joking with one of my sisters saying that we should go over the summer. Now, being from Wisconsin, we are not used to extremely hot and humid weather...atleast not all the time. And we always swore we would never go to Disney World in the summer...until now.

Some may think we're crazy (which we very well may be!) but I am really excited to be going back. It's a brand-new time of year for us and we are also going to be staying at another new resort. Where we'll be staying, well, I'm not going to give away everything right away. But our trip will be in August. Right before school starts, hence our end-of-the-summer celebration.

The official dates are: August 20-August 25, 2009

I was really worried about the heat last year when we went from August 31 - September 6th. It really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I went in July the trip before that and I swore I would never go in the summer again. There are so many places to cool off that I am sure you will be just fine!

Hi, LL! Glad to have to joining in again.

Yeah, hopefully it won't be too bad for us. Obviously it's going to be hot but when we were there in October of '06 they had record highs basically the whole time we were (temps in the 90s, very humid). We were able to survive that so that's a good sign! haha

I suppose I should start off by introducing who the "we" is that I am referring to. This trip is going to include the same cast as our December trip. That is, me, my sister Emma, and my dad.

When we first mentioned going to Disney World in the summer, there were 2 possibilities:
1.) Just Emma and I would go

2.) Dad would join us

Ultimately, when we chose our resort, Dad decided he would be coming along. So where we will be calling home this August?!


As I mentioned, we are members of the Disney Vacation Club. Our home resort is Saratoga Springs, which we love, but let's face it. Part of the fun of being DVC members is getting to stay at all of the other resorts. One of my goals is to stay at all of the DVC resorts at some point. If you aren't familiar with how the Vacation Club works, you are able to book at your home resort 11 months out. If you want to stay at another resort you have to wait until 7 months out. So as you can imagine, it can be a bit harder to stay at resorts other than your home resort (especially during busy times). Luckily on our last two trips, we've been able to stay at the Animal Kingdom Villas and the Beach Club Villas. It's really neat staying at all these places because each one is so different for various reasons.

For this trip, we had a few options based on what was available and where we wanted to stay:
1.) Boardwalk Villas
2.) The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge
3.) Bay Lake Tower
While Bay Lake Tower would be nice, it wasn't our first choice. And when Dad asked us where we'd want to stay Emma and I both agreed that the Boardwalk and Wilderness Lodge were our first two choices.

Then came the hard part of deciding because we have visited both of them and both are really nice. In the end though, one had to be the winner. Which did we choose?

That's right, the Wilderness Lodge! While we would have lenjoyed the Boardwalk as well, Emma and I both decided that since we just stayed at the Beach Club it would be fun to try a different area. Oh yes, and we also loved it when we ate at the Whispering Canyon Cafe.

So we'll have five nights in a studio villa. I can't wait! If you have any good stories or pictures, I'd love it if you'd share them!

Ohhh..Wilderness Lodge. That might be one of the most intriguing resorts to me. I can't wait to hear about it.

I would love to go at that time of year because I've heard it's not very crowded, but unfortunately I can't because of school.

It' funny you mention the boat to the MK because Emma and I were actually talking about that and how it would be fun. We'll definitely have to do that.

Yayyy I'm so glad you started and gave us some info! I just KNEW you were going to stay and VWL because you said how much you guys just loved it there when you visited in Dec. What a great choice!

And yes it will be super hot when you go but just think, the crowds should be really low at that time because the FL kids start school earlier than us Northerners

Dangit! I picked Boardwalk because you loved the Yacht Club so much! It'll be fun to hear about your adventures at a new resort. Plus you get to ride the ferry over to MK

Hi~ I followed along on your last TR and really enjoyed it so I am suscribing to this one. I am interested seeing what you think of an August trip... we almost went last year but then didn't go.

I am so totally in on your planning adventures! I will be there right after you guys leave (September 4-13). I can't wait to see what all you have planned...14 trips...that's amazing!! Good to know you haven't got tired of it. We just bought into DVC after our honeymoon at WDW. We will be staying at VWL for the first half of our trip there...can't wait to hear how you like it.
