Our electricity went off 5A Friday. ComEd thinks it might be back on Sunday. Thankfully we have a generator, but right now the gas man is here filling our tank. Which is an extra fill, oh well as last we are warm. Sunday it is to drop to 5 degrees, and the ice is 1 to 2 inches thick everywhere. Two riverbirches have broke, were hoping another tree in the back of the house is ok. All our trees are bent over, so were are also hoping the wind stays low.

Well thank goodness you have a generator.

We just were without power for about an hour. I'm in the middle of making a turkey dinner! A few years ago we had a snowstorm on Christmas. Our power was out for about a day and a half. It was awful, yet it is so sad that we are so dependent upon electricity in our everyday lives.

Hi:
Keep the faith! We lost ours thanks to the ice storm last Thursday for 6 days. We will have a generator for next time. We're praying our current snow storm doesn't knock it out again. I'm hoping you get it back soon!

We lost ours last Thursday too, and it's still out! We're running on a generator still. Our power company lists our town as "ongoing" with regard to the state of repairs. Since some towns have 95% completion dates listed as far out as 12/22, I'm thinking I'll be happy if I get power back in time for Christmas Eve.

NHWX

p.s. It's lightly snowing now and we're forecasted to get another 11 inches or so tomorrow.

NHWX..you must be in Massachusetts! My sister lives in Fitchburg and lost her power during the ice storm a week ago Thursday, so this is day 9 for her. Thank god she has a fireplace for heat and gas for hot water. Unbelievable!!

Our old school is in Fitchburg! Parts of it are still out as are parts of Lunenburg and Ashby (we just moved from the area 1 year ago). We have friends who have been without power for more than a week, and they do not have a generator (why I will never know). There are still quite a lot of people out in NH as well... I'm glad we moved further North, it stayed all snow, I can't stand ice....

bemily, how does your sister run the gas for hot water with no electricity? We always had a generator (still do)

OMG! This is my biggest fear...we live in a REALLY old home with radiator (water) heat and use an outdoor wood burner to heat it. If our electricity went out for any period of time, we would be in big trouble because the wood burner needs electricity to run. I did mention the thought of getting a generator the other day to DH, but he claims to be able to run the wood burner on a 12 volt batter...while he is VERY handy, I'm just not as trusting. We are still getting snow again today (in MN), and the blizzard is supposed to start later tonight. Temperature (with wind chill factor) is expected to be around 30 below zero! :scared1:
Please pray for the power lines to hold up!!!

I have had family here from Lunenburg since LAST FRIDAY:scared1: WITH THEIR DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who I might add, tried to bite me tonite when I pushed him away from the table when he jumped up to eat something off it. It has been a very long haul with no end in sight. My BFF in Lunenburg saw the state rep today who said it may be new years before everyone is taken care of. I think I'll go out of my tree if everyone is here for that long. It is really hard. My DB is in Princeton--still no power, and another close freind is in Sterling, no power there either. It's awful. And another big storm in the morning!

Hi Chris1gill...

Good question and I will ask her that when I talk to her tomorrow! I have no idea! LOL I know she takes a shower and goes with her hair wet and brings her straight iron to work and has been making due that way. I tell ya, I have no clue how she is handling this. I guess there is a problem with a transformer, but then there are issues with other equipment that they cannot find replacements for..Something to that effect!!

That is just awful. My sister has a dog and cat and bird, and I have offered and offered for her to come to my house (where we have a dog and cat), she has declined because of the animals, and feels that she is 'making due' okay.

There was a foot of snow yesterday, more coming on Sunday. I would be insane by now..LOL

Our hot water heater works without electricity. (Natural gas, not propane.) I didn't know that any standard gas hot water heater needed electricity.

Then again, I'm from Texas. We wore shorts today.

Stay warm and be very careful in those cold temps!

Wow, that is horrible! Hope everyone stays safe! How do people without generators manage? Very scary, hope things get fixed soon.

We're in the Monadnock region so we were hit probably as bad as those folks in north-central Massachusetts.

If you don't have a generator, there's really only a couple choices. Drain the pipes and go to a shelter. Drain the pipes and go to a hotel, although by now, the generator would have been cheaper. Wood stove with the town supplying drinking water. A nearby town has brought in showers for residents. Stay with relatives. Drive to Disney (after draining the pipes)!

There are a lot more power and tree trimming crews in the area now. And my DH actually saw a tree trimming crew working in our town! There's hope but there's also snow. By now, I'm hoping that we have power by Christmas.

Here's a sign of the times - we went out at 11 tonight to get gas for the generator before tomorrow's storm and they were out! We had to go two towns away to get gas. (We didn't try the premium and mid-grades. When filling up a Jeep and three 5 gallon gas cans, the drive is OK.)

I'm in the Monadnock region too and luckily we were only out for 4 days (never that I'd be saying that!)

Good luck

We live in Tulsa. Last December we had an Ice Storm of biblical proportion. We did not have power for 11 days and I had just gotten over pneumonia and a heart infection. It was very difficult to find a generator, and people were fighting to get them off the truck while they were being delivered. We found ours at an RV store. I was very happy when our insurance paid us what it would have cost to rent it during that time.

Hope everyone has their power back on by now. We were one of the lucky ones, we lost it for about a day, but so many still don't have power, it's horrible. We got 10 inches of snow on Friday here in NH and it's snowing today as I speak, with 8-14 inches expected. Disney take me away!!!!!

Ugh, what a tremendous bummer for you. Send all your relatives up to Vermont to get generators!!! They're plentiful here LOL.... We should call our friends and make sure they are okay, it's been a few days... The poor Mom had a huge gathering schedule for Christmas.... She has quite the kitchen.

From the sounds of it, I hope the kids can go back to school by January 5th.

I did hear on the news that Fitchburg has used 4 years worth of materials and equipment in only one weeks time and the problems that remain there are much deeper than anyone had ever imagined. I don't think that bodes well for those still in the dark.

Oh, we also did get about 10" Friday into Saturday, and now we are expecting somewhere between 8 and 14 today...

You have no idea how much I would like to at this point. Suggested getting a generator at this point during dinner last night and they said they couldn't cope with it. They are only in their 50's!!!!!!!!!!

Well it was on for a couple of hours at midnight until 11A Sunday
and now back off. The winds have picked up and it is minus 1 degree. And I wonder why the dog doesn't want to leave the garage (it is heated to 40ish). And with the the ice on the power and phone lines they are snapping. DH left for work, he plows the roads. I had wanted to go to Disney last Monday to this weekend but DH said work really wants him here now, O'Hare has had a lot of cancellations and delays, so I am actually happy to be home and not have those headaches. The kids are off school like yours so they aren't going anywhere. And thankfully SIL comes here to watch them Monday and Tuesday, then I'm off for the holidays.

Where are you located? I grew up in Central IL so when I read ComEd I am assuming you must be in that vicinity.
