Our DVC dues at work :-)

We just got back from the Boardwalk where they have replaced all of the hallway carpeting. I was talking to one of the decorators and she said it's our dues money being put to work. Apparently all of the unit carpets were replaced last year and also armoires for the studios were replaces with larger ones since members said that the smaller units didn't have enough drawer space.

Anyway the carpet is beautiful, really brightens up the hallway, but I like the old boardwalk carpet more (can't have it all I guess).

One thing we really didn't like while there was the transportation. It seems like very few busses for DTD were dedicated to the Boardwalk, I wondered if this is because of this Vacation Club status or what. We must have watched 4 Coronado springs busses leave empty one night while we waited for one boardwalk bus. Finally one of the CSprings drivers took pity on the boardwalk people and took us back to the resort. Has anyone else had this problem specifically with Downtown Disney bus service? To the parks hasn't been a problem.

Is there any pattern to the new hallway carpets? I always liked the feeling of walking on the boardwalk with the little fringed rungs in front of the doors.

It's supposed to have the seashell or sand type look. Honestly it looks more like what you'd find in the swan or dolphin. My son thinks it would fit more at the GF. There are flowers and seashells scattered on the carpet and then at the room entrances there's a larger pattern with footprints and pawprints as well as larger flowers. I meant to take a picture, but of course forgot. It's really pretty and bright, but I prefer the old carpet. I wish they would have replaced the carpet with the same pattern, but at least we could see our dollars at work.

Sounds pretty but I thought the "boardwalk" carpet was just a stroke of genius! Maybe it'll come back again someday.

I loved the old carpet, felt like the Jersey Boardwalk!!!! New carpet sounds pretty, can't wait to see it.

I stayed at Coronado Springs this summer and also the Contemporary. I noticed then that the transportation to Coronado Springs seemed to be much better. Even went to the Boardwalk for a couple of evenings and saw more frequent busses to CS. Same with transportation to from the parks, DD, and Typhoon Lagoone. I just figured it was because of the resort being primarily for conventions and trying to make sure the business travelors were accomodated.

I guess I'm the only one who didn't care for the old carpet. I thought it looked kind of cheap - especially compared to the Inn side where they had real wood - at least where I walked.

Hate to be so negative - but since you mentioned the carpet... I felt the need to share. :)

I wonder f the high volume of CS bus at DTD is due to the large number of convention'ers that stay there. They are usually there only a few days and try to pack a lot of shopping in.It would make sense for Disney to make it easy to get back and forth.

I think the old carpet was very clever in design but I didn't really like the look of it, maybe because it had so much beige. I felt like I should have liked it because I liked the design. Well I don't have to feel guilty any more -- can't wait to see the new design, it sounds great!

I noticed the same problem with buses from DD to BW last November. I'm sure 4 CS buses came and went at DD while we waited for ours back to BWV; only the first CS bus had anyone to pick up. One or two for other resorts came by, too. I'd estimate that we waited 10-15 minutes. I thought the CS buses were mixed up or something.

It's off to OKW in 3 weeks :D :D We'll see what the bus situation is there. We're looking forward to taking the boat to DD. I don't really mind waiting for transporation anymore; we're never in a hurry now that I know I'll be back next year...and next year...and next year!:smooth:

As to bus service...each hotel contracts privately with the WDW bus company on when, where and how many buses will be used. The bus service to OKW has always been decent, but perhaps you have been caught up in a crunch to conserve money at the end of a dues period. I would not be surprised if dues go up for 2002.

The old hallway carpet was about the only thing I did not care for at BWV. Too drab. Thus glad to hear it has been replaced. Busses to DD were OK in June. Wonder if current situation is just an issue of some of the cutbacks since Sep 11.

Actually the decorator I talked to said that she like the old better as well but someone decided to go with the new design. It is pretty but I'll miss the boardwalk :-)

What made us mad was that there were empty busses going to CS while people were waiting for a Boardwalk Bus. The CM's who were standing around just said wait and it'll be here. Finally on the fourth go round the CS bus driver took pity on us, it had gotten really cold and said he'd take us to the boardwalk.

Earlier in the week we took a bus from the shopping side of DD and were waiting for the Boardwalk bus. There they had someone directing busses to each pit stop depending on how many people were waiting to go where. Well we had been waiting for about 10 minutes when a bus pulled up, as we were getting ready to get our stuff together and get on a man went up to the "dispatcher ( I guess that's what he was) and asked when the bus for the Grand Floridian would come, the dispatcher talked to the bus driver and whala, said he'll take you to the Grand Floridian. We had been waiting for 10 minutes but the other guy got the bus, boy did that make my blood boil. Hubby said that they probably wanted to make GF guests happy since statistically they probably spent more money, I laughed and said, other than hotel rooms we probably spent more money at Disney. I ended up going to the dispatcher and told him we had been waiting for a Boardwalk bus, finally when some other guests showed up, we got one.

I thought that they had dedicated routes, but this trip taught me different.

That the Coronado Springs/DtD Bus has a stop at--guess where?--the Boardwalk.

I VERY CLEARLY remember taking a bus from Coronado Springs with the intention of going to the Boardwalk, but the bus I boarded was merely labeled Downtown Disney.

Now perhaps things have changed, but...

We were there also when the carpet was being replaced-and we love the new carpet. I guess we are one of the few who thought the old carpet was kind of plain. We noticed on our arrival that the carpet really looked beat and commented that it needed to be replaced [we had just come from Vero, where the carpet in the Inn was being replaced and looked wonderful]. Later that day we had a voicemail message telling us that the BWV carpet was being replaced. And they meant right THEN! I am glad to see BWV being maintained.

Downtown Disney always seems bad for bus service. I remember last year when we stayed at OKW we took the boat in the late afternoon because we had never done it before (it was a nice relaxing ride) but by time we were ready to come back it was after 9:30 so it stopped running. An OKW bus was waiting at DD when we got to the stop, great we thought. It still took 30 to 45 minutes to get back to OKW and it's practically right around the corner! It sat at DD for awhile, went to PI, sat there awhile, then WS, sat there..... Reminded me why I like to rent a car (we had a car, I just wanted to try out the boat).

We were told by the drivers to wait for the Boardwalk Bus, but this was going from DTD back to Boardwalk, it may be different going to DTD, not sure. The driver who took us indicated that he was adding to his route by taking us to the Boardwalk before CS.

Debbie,
We always use the car to DtD from OKW or else walk the path if we are close to South Point. It just takes WAY to long for a bus between DtD and OKW.

Last week we waited for a least 1/2 hour for a bus to TTC from the Marketplace (we were staying at VWL). It seemed like All Star had about 5 buses come and go before ours arrived. I even saw a bus for PO pass by with about 2 people on it. That was the worst bus transportation the whole time we were there. Every other bus... to Epcot, MGM was just fine. Downtown Disney bus service really stunk!
