Just came back from the vet.

Nikki isn't eating anything. Not even her favorites. She's not a fussy dog and usually will do anything to get her paws on some bacon. Wasn't interested. We knew something was wrong. She was still drinking water, so we weren't too concerned.

Then she started vomiting every time she drank water yesterday. It stays down for about a half hour, then comes back up. We watched her very carefully overnight and called the vet this morning. She was a little dehydrated, so they injected fluids under her skin. We can't feed her anything until tomorrow morning, and she's only allowed a few ice cubes in her dish.

I think she may have gotten into a plant or something that she shouldn't have. I can't imagine what, though. We have to watch her very carefully lately. She's created a new game that we call "chase." She escapes the yard (usually under the fence) and waits for us to catch up with her, then runs like crazy. This continues all around the neighborhood until we give up and go home. Then she follows us and is a perfect little angel again. We think we have all of her escape routes covered, but she's no longer allowed outside by herself. We're not too fond of that particular game and try to avoid it at all costs! So, she is watched.

I can't think of anything she's gotten into around the house, either. I just want her to get back to her normal happy self.

I think I just need assurances that Nikki will be alright. There are a lot of puppy parents on this board. Has anyone had anything like this with their pets? Did everything turn out o.k?

Im sorry your dog is sick. So are mine. We have 2 yellow labs just over a year old. (Ginger and Spice). They eat Iams Lamb and Rice Food. The last couple of days they have not touched their food and Spice was throwing up. We thought maybe the food was bad. Can it go bad? They are both still drinking, but we went and got some cheap dog food (kibbles and bits) I think, and they were picking at it, but not their usual scarfing it down. I dont know whats going on with them either, but if we have another day of this I will take them to the vet too.

Hopefully she will be back to normal real soon.

Bacon and dogs...I will never do that again...I have 5 pugs....DH gave bacon to one as they gave him "the look"...2 days later...Miracle was VERY sick...Diagnosis...Pancerntitis(sp?)Cause-Pork products. Was told by vet NEVER to give dogs pork. Lesson learned. She even said that pig ears treats arent very good for them either.

Hopefully your baby gets better. I have 2 sick dogs also. Bronchtitis. LOL. Never fails. But they are on the mend. Yours will be better soon too

My dog started like that, and he had Lyme's Disease. You who live in CT, it is a very real possibility. According to my vet, we have had a fairly mild winter, and the ticks are out early this year.

My dog had Lyme's last summer, with a relapse in November, and a possible relapse just a couple of weeks ago...the most recent one was questionable whether it was a Lyme's relapse or a Lyme vaccine reaction...his symptoms were the same as when he got the Lyme's, but he had also had the Lyme vaccine about a week before he started with the symptoms, so the vet was up in the air as to which it was. She treated him this last time with a 10 day course of Amoxicillin and he was fine, so she's leaning toward a vaccine reaction. The two previous times that it was Lyme's & a relapse, he had a 4 week course of Doxycycline for the first one and a 3 week course of Doxycyccline for the second one.

Anyway, when he had the Lyme's the first time, he vomited, became lethargic, refused food and treats and had a temp od 104!!!!!!! About 24 hours or so after the vomiting started, he was reluctant to go up & down stairs.

Based on the fact that you live in CT, I'd have the vet check for Lyme's, and start the Doxycycline.

I do hope little Nikki is feeling good again soon, Cheryl. Always so tough when those little fur buddies are not up to themselves.

Sending good thoughts to Nikki. I hope she is feeling better soon.

Hope your baby feels better soon! I've never traveled down that road with Toby, so I can't offer any advice, just a hug. :grouphug:

Thanks everyone.

I think Nikki's starting to perk up a bit. We were told not to give her lots of water, just a few ice cubes in her dish. She's been keeping down a little water from those, which is an improvement. And, she was a little interested in our dinner tonight. She didn't beg, but she was checking out the table. That's more than we've seen in a couple of days. Tomorrow morning I have to make her white rice and cottage cheese. Yum. Hopefully, she'll eat it AND keep it down.

Anyway, thanks for all the good thoughts. I think she's feeling a bit better--at least I hope so!

Well, now Nikki's at the animal hospital. It's been since Friday and she's still not eating. She seemed a little interested in the rice and cottage cheese I made for her this morning, but she wouldn't touch it.

The vet called this morning to see how Nikki was doing. When I told her there was no change, she said to bring her in. They're running some x-rays and tests. I hope it's nothing too serious. I'm worried sick. I have to call in a little bit to check on her.

Please send some pixie dust Nikki's way. She sure could use it!

Sending some Pixie dust Nikki's way. I hope she is doing better. It is so sad when our fur babies are sick.
