my DH and I went to go get our rental car today. Our reservation was for a mini-van and was supposed to be $425. When we pulled into Hertz we saw an 09 ford explorer outside, and I told my husband that someone was lucky. We wanted one but couldn't afford the $550 it was going to cost. We went in to sign the paperwork and the manager informed us that the woman who rented the mini-van did not bring it in on time. She was suppose to bring it back last night and they didn't know when she was bringing it back. We figured that he would have to call the other Hertz dealers and we would have to wait for one. Instead he said, "I pulled out that 09 Ford Explorer for you if you are willing to take it." I wanted to scream out yes, but knew that it cost more. I told the manager that I couldn't afford to go the extra hundred dollars. He told us not to worry about it, he was going to give it to us for the same price, plus give us a discount since it wasn't the mini-van. We ended up walking out of there with the Explorer and only paid $333 so we saved almost $100 and was able to get the vechile that we really wanted but didn't think we could afford. The manager asked us where we were going and we told him DisneyWorld. He smiled and said, "Well I'm glad that I could give you some disney magic early." I was so happy, and now I can't wait until we are actually in Disney World surrounded by Disney Magic.

A similar thing happened to us . We had a group of 10 and wanted a 12 passenger van . Online they had none available so we reserved 2 cars instead. When we arrived they didn't have our cars but a 12 passenger van ! We paid the price of only 1 car for the van ! Way cheaper than what we were expecting . Mary

Congratulations! I hope the rest of your trip is just as magical.

What a nice way to start your vacation. Enjoy!

Congratulations!!!:cool1:I hope your entire trip is filled with this sort of magic!

We went on a ski trip to Utah once and (because we're cheap) reserved a compact car -- for 4 people. We got to the airport and the guy kept telling us how we needed a bigger car, how people would laugh at us. We kept saying, "No, we'll be fine in the little car". Finally he confessed that all they had, and all they ever have on the lot are big 4 wheel drive vehicles. He then told us to go pick any vehicle on the lot and the price would be the same. We let the kids pick and ended up with a Nissan Armada in bright fire engine red.

My son wrote postcards to the grandparents.

"Dear Nana,

We are having fun in Utah. You should see the car!!! It's big. It's red. You could live in it . . . "

Nothing about the beautiful Wasatch Mountains, or how he learned to ski black diamonds, just whole postcards about the car!

I still remember our first WDW car rental- LOL! April 1986, it was a navy blue Ford LTD. Our car at home didn't have power windows and this did, so I was psyched! That was back in the days when every car rental company put on a bumper sticker with the company's name on it!

And the upgrade you mentioned... same thing happed to me in '98. When enterprise was off site I cased out the lot first and saw they had practically nothing, and the guy kept trying to upgrade me. Finally they admitted they had none left of the size I reserved. I got a convertible for $30 extra total! :rotfl2:

We went to Florida with my aunt and uncle and when we got to the rental car counter, my aunt was in such a hurry to get in line first. We had each reserved the cheapest one they had. So she got theirs, and low and behold, they were out of that size, she was so happy they got the "last one". We got a free upgrade to the convertible that was on the lot! LOL, I still laugh about it now. She was so mad. LOL!:wizard:
