How about this for a hellish time?!

Story involves DD & I, a windscreen blowing out on M25, getting lost (several times) in Reading, disappointment with houses.........and ending up the evening in A & E in Royal Berks Hospital with Becky!!!!!

Plan was for me & Becky to drive to reading yesterday (Tues) morning, visit some houses, do some shopping and then pick up Mark, have dinner and stay overnight in hotel...doing a little more shopping this monring before driving home....sounds good?

Well, we set off after seeing Mum in hospital yesterday, all fine, bombing along the M25 near M11 turn off when Becky goes to shut the sunroof and theres a sudden loud BANG!.....a whoosh of air and lots of scared swearing from us both! "What the **** was that?" I shout and Becky tells me she's just seen the rear windscreen hurtling into hyperspace!!!!

I manage to keep my cool enough (not) to pull over from the far lane to the hard shoulder (sorry cars!) and stop. We have no back window, a wiper trailing down and sveral yards of rubber edging hanging off the car!!!!!

Becky was great and had the sense to pick up the rubber beading and bend the wiper back. We couldnt see where the window had fallen....Im just thanking God & guardian angels nobody was hurt!!!!

Phoned AA who put me on to Autoglass in Enfield...the nearest one! Had to drive into Enfield (only got lost once) and have the window replaced by some very nice men who invited all their colleagues in to see something that apparently 'never' happens!

An hour and £50 excess Ins. later we're on our way again....shaken but not stirred.....

...only to get stuck in a traffic jam this time

Eventually arrive at the nice Bryant showhouse in Reading 2 hours late and decide its really not worth the money after all
Off to next appointment (still shaky), get lost, see a really awful house thats been squatted in by the lloks of it......no back door...just 2 peices of wood nailed across!!!!...several stained mattresses....shudder!

Estate agent supposed to guide us to next house, roars off and loses us and we get completely lost and end up 30 mins later swearing, hot and never want to see a house again!!!!!! (never did get to see this house)

BUT worst bit was that Becky starts complaning that her lip hurts. She had it pierced on Saturday when she was with her Dad and its swelling up by the minute, now looks very infected and the ring is stuck fast. We buy disprin, scissors to try and tug it out but no luck

After seeing the last house of the evening (which we all like) we go to travel lodge (hate it, cost us £145 for 2 rooms...very noisy and no TV!!!!!) and then realise Beckys in bad shape.

Off to A & E in a cab for me & Bek where poor baby has it prodded and poked until she cant bear it. Eventually the wonderful staff manage to use ring cutters (under local anasthetic) to prise it off but her lip now looks like Frank Bruno after a fight!!!!

Drove back today, knackered, £250 poorer, Becky in pain, and no house

I need a drink please!!!!

Ohh no Mandy :(

One thing i'd like to point out ( not having a go Mandy ) never try and close a sunroof while driving the bulid up of air blew out your rear windscreen just to much pressure.

Sit down and crack open a few beers that should do the trick - ohh and put some ice on beckys lip.

OMG:( You poor things:earseek:

I hope Becky's lip is a bit better now and you're both over the shock of the windscreen::yes::

Karen xx

Blimey O'Reilly that is one bad day sweetie.

What a shock that must have been and poor Becky I hope she feels better soon and her lip goes down. Sorry to hear about the houses :(

What an awful day for you Mandy :( I hope Becky's lip is OK, how is she feeling now? {{HUGS}}

What was the final house like?

Not one of your best days then, Mandy? :earseek:

I hope things are looking a little better now, and that it hasn't put you off house-hunting!

Mandy, I don't know what to say. What a terrible day - you poor things. Lots and lots of hugs and kisses to Becky.

thanks all:wave2:

hmmmm you're right not one of my better days!

VH...yeah, I'll try and remember that little tip!

Becky's still poorly, I think the shock has got to her:(

We're rethinking the house thing and looking again at the new houses as its more stress free as they do part exchange:Pinkbounc We did like the last house but they wont accept an offer til ours is sold :(

Cant sleep now thinking of what could have happened on the motorway!

jeez what a nightmare day you had :( poor things! I hope your daughter's feeling better soon and that a nice cold alcoholic drink made you feel a lot better!

Anz :earsgirl:

I think I'll have a drink after reading your post - what a dreadful day!

Hope you've recovered and Becky's lip gets back to normal asap.

Are you all ok today Mandy?

What a day!

thanks all! we're getting over it now I think, but I think the shock set in yesterday and I felt really numb!:( Becky's almost recovered too and her lip is going down nicely thanks:rolleyes:

:( Oh blimey Mandy. I've missed it all since I've not been on the boards for a couple of weeks.

Hope everyone's ok now (I remember my windscreen shattering on the M40 long time ago - JR had been shot in Dallas the night before, I thought someone was trying to shoot me the noise it made:earseek: ).

thanks Annie! Think we've all recovered now! Its a shocking expereince though....
