My report contains both our on & offsite dining experiences. Hope that is OK!
Our family:
Me - Nicole, Age 30
DH - Mike, Age 34
DS - Alex, Age 8
DD - Addison, Age 6
We arrived in Orlando around noon starving, of course! My original plan was to grab a quick snack after checking into our room at HIFS and then having a late lunch at RFC at 3:00 since I wasn't sure how long it would take to get our rental car, etc. Well, no one was going to be held at a "snack" so that idea was quickly shot down and I had to cancel my PS. We were a bit tired and didn't want to venture far from our room so we ended up eating at the Club Car buffet at HIFS. I hadn't heard many good things about it, but it was fast, cheap & nearby so I was willing to give it a try! The buffet had a decent selection of items for both adults and kids. I remember trying the chicken cacciatore, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, salad and there was also tator tots, pudding, fruit and an ice cream bar for dessert. The food was OK and served its purpose but I wasn't in a hurry to eat there again. On the plus side, our bill was only about $20 for all 4 of us since the kids eat free before 5:00 PM.
We headed to Downtown Disney after taking a nap and shopped a bit. I decided to check out RFC to see how long the wait was but it was pretty long and none of us were too hungry. I decided to try to get a PS for the Animal Kingdom RFC since we were headed there in the morning. After some more shopping, we left DTD and agreed to eat at Bahama Breeze since I had some gift certificates and we've never been there. I had a Bahamarita (their version of a margarita with kiwi, strawberry and mango) to drink, which was really yummy but I drank it too fast and got "brain freeze".
For dinner, I had one of their daily specials which was mahi mahi served with boniato mash, spinach saute with a ginger carrot puree. It was really good, with a pretty presentation and bright colors. My DH had some sort of 4 cheese tostada ensalada with tilapia. He said it was OK, but not really what he had expected. When he ordered it, I was surprised since he is more of a "meat & potatoes" kind of guy so that is probably why he didn't really like it. My DS had their bowtie mac & cheese which he declared the "best he's ever had" and my DD had the chicken fingers. Their choices set the pace for the rest of the trip. Our bill was about $48 total.
