Day 1:
Dolphin Fountain, too expensive and very busy so we went to
Beaches and Cream instead for lunch. I had the roast beef sub, DBF had double cheeseburger. We shared onion rings--best onion rings I have ever had.
Grade: A (taking into account the price range and menu options for a good lunch spot)
Palios, dinner: Yum! We each had a pizza, which DBF loves b/c it has thin crust and is as true to an Italian pizza as you can get in the States. The best part of the meal was the raspberry sorbet with a thin slice of chocolate on top. As close to authentic Italian gelato as you can get in the States (DBF used to live in Italy, hence the pickiness).
Grade: A+
Day 2:
Splash Grill, lunch: We ate lunch here about three times and it never failed to disappoint. A highlight for us from the week was their buffalo chicken and french fries. Large portions so, although it does usually come out to 10.00/person for lunch , you get your money's worth.
Grade: A-
Spoodles, dinner: DBF enjoyed the Lamb kefta appetizer, while I found it to be too salty. He did not like the olive oil dip for the complimentary bread because it contained ground-up olives. I agreed, because this made it too salty. I had the mediterranean salad appetizer, very tasty. We both had the ravioli, which was good but I thought it was pricey. I guess if I want Italian I'll be sticking with Palios. The rest of the items on the menu weren't what we were in the mood for and after having pizza the night before at Palios we did not want the flatbread. However, service was great and they took our picture. We saw some people nearby getting make your own sundaes for dessert, where they bring you a scoop of ice cream and little cups of different toppings, but we were too full.
Grade: B+
Day 3:
Biergarten, lunch: Never fails to meet our expectations. Consistently good with lots of options and excellent beer. We also love the entertainment.
Grade: A
Marrakesh, dinner: I was still pretty full from lunch. I had the lamb soup, which was too salty. I had the appetizer sampler, which was good. Can't go wrong with the beef and chicken rolls. DBF had steak kabobs, delicious..I tried a piece. The entertainment was fun and the belly dancer moved around the room. I got my picture with her, which was nice surprise.
Grade: A
Espresso from the Italian pavilion. Grade: A+ buzz, buzz, buzz and on to fireworks!
Day 4:
Kimonos, dinner:...sooo good. Nice light meal after a previous day of heavy eating. I had veggie rolls and California rolls, DBF had sushi platter. Some of the best sushi we have ever had. Service was quicker than the last time we were there last year. Quiet atmosphere the evening we were there and very relaxing.
Grade: A+
Day 5:
Bomas, dinner: Great! I tried a South African wine of the pinot variety that was smooth and went perfect with the buffet. Items that were memorable: Falafel, fufu (squash dish), prime rib, HUGE strawberries, fried tofu and string beans, mango salad dressing. DBF had the salmon, which I tried and found to be too salty.
Grade: A
Day 6:
Beaches and Cream counter service for sundaes. They made ours to order. I had one scoop vanilla with caramel sauce and DBF had strawberry ice cream with strawberry topping. This was a nice surprise b/c the menu makes it look like the only option you have for a to-go sundae is the hot fudge so I was glad I asked.
Grade: A+
Kimonos, dinner: Again! Had the same thing. Just reaffirming how much we liked it!
I hope this helps some people make their dining decisions. If you have any questions please feel free to ask!
