We already have a family trip booked for December 13. I thought briefly about trying to change our trip but decided not to. Her start date is Jan 26 so she will fly down herself. She is so excited and I am too! It is something that she has wanted to do for a long time and finally decided this year to apply! I am definitely planning to go down again and visit her hopefully in the middle of her program. Depending on what kind of discount she gets and what resort we will stay someplace other than a DVC villa for the first time in 6 years!

Happy news! Good for her - hope she has a wonderful time & learns a ton from the experience.

My son was in more than one college program and enjoyed it very much!

One benefit that we had during his program, and subsequent employment, is that he had a substantial discount for rooms (between 40-50%, depending on the time of the year and the resort). These were unlimited, but he had to verify his cast member ID in person within 10 days of those guests arriving.

He also had a limited number of "main gate passes" for family and friends. Those were great at times, but there are restrictions - he had to stay with friends during their visit (or at least when they park hopped) and right now there is no way to reserve FP ahead of time with those passes. He had great discounts on merchandise, and some discounts on restaurants.

I hope your daughter enjoys her CP as much as my son did.

Thanks Carol! She may do a trip report during her program. I will post if she does if anyone incase anyone is interested in reading.

Thank you so much! Glad that your son had good experiences!
I did hear about the resort discount. I definitely would like to take advantage of that. We want to go down sometime in March. I would rather save our points for another trip and have our DD stay with us in whatever resort she can get us a discount for. Hopefully, she can get a discount for dining too, if not I will get a new TIW card. And of course, we would go shopping! We won't need passes because I just renewed our AP's. But she might use them for her brother, sister, or boyfriend if he decides to visit.

I was in the cp a million years ago. In fact going to meet a dear friend I made during that time end of this week for a get together! Great memories and great times. Lifelong friendships! Congrats to her!

We used the CM discount to buy our first DVC contract:) Our DD went from CP to full-time CM which has some better discount benefits. If you've considered buying more points you should def. check for a discount while your DD is in the program. :earsboy:

My daughter is in the CP right now. In fact she looked into extending, but doesn't think she can keep her scholarship if she doesn't go back to school in spring. She may go back in summer for a summer job. She is totally in love with it and she is working in food! She doesn't even mind 12 hour shifts! She has visited all 4 parks and typhoon lagoon.
We are going down in 2 weeks to see her and will hopefully spend a lot of time. We have made FPs for the two of us but if she is with us at those times one of us will give her a MB so she can ride. I will definitely be going shopping with her and that discount!
We didn't fly her down though. My husband drove down, stayed one night at the all-stars, and flew home. The first week of January he will fly down, stay somewhere cheap, and drive back with her.
I booked a BLT for our weekend--now that our 3 kids are down to 1, we are good for points, staying in studios instead of 1 or 2 BRs.

That is great! But, we are not considering more points now. We didn't have quite enough to start (200AKV) so we added on (100BWV) in 2013 and feel like we have a good amount for us.

That is great that your daughter is enjoying it so much. Mine didn't sign up for the advantage program because she wasn't sure how much she would miss everyone and/or if she wanted to be down there in the summer (heat).
I told her that if she decides that she wants to extend she can apply for it, but if she wants to come home in May that is fine too. She will also be working in food too!
I love BLT - that should be great staying there. I am looking forward to visiting our DD during her program. It will be a good reason to make an extra trip to Disney this year. I want to shop too! :goodvibes
I know what you mean about the rooms too. We always stay in a 2 bedroom with our 3 kids. But, this trip this December might be the last one for awhile that we can plan together. It is really hard to do when they have different schedules. Our son will be missing a week of school, but both of our daughters will be on break from college.
My DD doesn't have any scholarships to worry about. But she is going to take a 1 credit class while at Disney just so she won't have to with draw for the semester.

Thank you and that is wonderful for you! One of our DD's teachers in high school had done the DCP and she told her that she made life long friends too. So many benefits to the program, so happy that she has this opportunity!

Congratulations to her. I hope she loves it and has a great time like my dd did last year.

She loved it so much, she extended. We never took advantage of any room discounts or passes. We also had a Dec. trip booked. Drove down again in January to drop her off. Drove down again in May - we had everything booked since she was coming home but she decided to extend til August. We were glad we were down to move her again.

Drove down end of July for our cruise to pick her up and stayed an additional week to drive her home at the end of the program.

Good luck to her - she will have an amazing experience.

I am thinking that the same thing could happen to us. I am not worrying about it, if we get an extra trip great, if not, we know we are always going back anyways the next year!
I do have a question. When your daughter extended you mentioned moving? Did she have to move to a different apartment when she extended?

Yes. She was working for the first term at CBR and then went to work at Splash Mountain. She was originally in Chattam and then moved to Patterson. Thank God we kept our original plans for May (to pick her up). She had way too much stuff. They would need to find a friend available to move and with a car if possible. Only given a few hours to move also. I saw some moving with wagons and alone. Can be done but it did not look like fun.

My DD is flying down by herself and moving in alone. But, I guess it would be a different after being there for a few months. If she decides to extend - I will try to go down to help her. I know I would want to visit anyways - it just depends on the timing of when I can go.

My daughter got into the DCP for Spring 2015, too! Like you, we are both SOOOOO excited!!!! I'm looking forward to taking several Orlando trips while she is there. :yay:

My DD will be a Photopass Photographer, and did not sign up for the advantage program either. She's graduating this December and if her other interviews go well, she'll be starting grad school this summer so she couldn't extend. But, for the time she has, it should be an awesome 4 month experience being a Disney employee. She just wishes she could start earlier - her earliest opportunity to start was February 2nd. She was hoping for January 12th.

I can't wait to hear the stories they'll have from the DCP!

Photo pass sounds like a fun job!
You are right it will be an awesome experience even for 4 months. So good that she got in for next semester since she is graduating soon. My dd would have graduated next December 2015 but since she is taking this semester off it will be May 2016. She decided to apply for this semester incase she didn't get in her first time then she would still be able to try again. But if she does really want to do the program again she will apply for the semester after graduating like your daughter is doing.
I can't wait to hear the stories too and I know I that they will make some wonderful friends.

Congrats!! My DD 21 is doing a professional internship with marketing that got extended a full year to next June. She...and of course me!!!-- is enjoying it!!! I can't wait to visit in November!!!

That is great! My DD would definitely be interested in a PI next year after she graduates! Any tips for that?
She is a HRTM major and her DCP is full service food and beverage. She is also doing an internship right now until the end of this semester st Comfort Inn. Do you think that would help her chances of getting a PI in the future?
