There was a short piece on our local news a couple of days ago that said that our county was desperately short of "election officers" - just regular citizens who are willing to help people vote on Election Day. I called and the woman I talked to seemed genuinely grateful to have me sign up. She said that most of the people willing to do the job are in their 70's - people younger than that just aren't volunteering.
Just thought there might be some DISers out there who would have the time and inclination to volunteer for this important non-partisan civic duty. In my case, in my county, it means going to one 2 hour training session of my choice, and then getting to my regular polling place on Nov 2 at 5 am and working until the polls close at 7 pm. Not a relaxing day, but also not something I think we should expect just 70+ year olds to do!
And for anyone who might need an extra added incentive, the email I got last night said I would be paid $100 for the service!
