I am a Junior GS Leader, and we are doing skits on peer pressure, what to do, how to avoid it and so on.

What I need are skit ideas. Come up with the usual drug, smoking, stealing, etc. But alot of those things are already focused on in school today. I want to make sure that I hit more of "today's" problem areas.

Can you all throw some ideas my way on some good things to focus on? I need 5.

I figured you all might enjoy this. :smooth:

Pressure to be thin
To have the "in" clothes

That one is a very good one! Never would have thought of that. Keep em coming. :)

i was going to say 'be cool'. Have certain clothes and only talk to certain people. I know my daughter is getting that already in fourth grade.

have a 'boyfriend'. I know that's a big one among girls even if they don't think they're ready.

to not be a good student. Some of the kids think it's so uncool to get good grades.

I dont know how old junior girl scouts are- but what about sexual pressure's? from boyfriends, and friends in general?

Brandy

I don't know how to bring up the pressure of sex with Juniors. Alot of them are in 5th grade and here, they don't start that till the 2nd half of the year, but I think that it is important. Any thoughts on this?

Juniors are 4th, 5th and 6th graders.

Peer Pressure..hmmmm

Very weird and not sure if it's all too common...but what about huffing or sniffing or whatever it's called where they inhale household products. Don't hear about it much until a kid dies from it.

Please please please talk about Eating Disorders beyond anorexia and bulimia!! It is so important!
I am the Well-Aware director for my sorority so I have a bunch of stuff for older girls, feel free to PM me if you want.

I think that can be covered in a whole drug thing. You don't hear much about it because it isn't as big of a problem as weed, cocaine, and other drugs. (Or at least, that was the case when I was in school).

I really like the whole pressure to be thin one.

Yes, I like the thin one. My DD10 went through something about a year ago, she just refused to eat! When I asked her why, she said she needed to loose weight. My DD is not fat by any means. We had a very long talk about it and I haven't really had any problems since, but I still keep my eye on her, cause it COULD come about again.

I'd second the idea of doing something on being smart. About 5th or 6th grade some smart girls start feeling pressure to act dumb or at least not as smart so boys will like them. I told my daughter ( who is now in 9th grade) that if a boy doesn't like you because you are smart, then they are not worth having. I think the same goes for friends. If your friend doesn't like you because you are smart, then are they really your friend.

Ok, I'l get off my soapbox now..

Pressure to not associate with someone because of their race or religion. Maybe they or their parents have a funny accent or don't quite have the expected social American customs.

Pressure to not hang out with someone because they don't have enough money to have all the "cool" posessions.

Pressure not to hang with someone because they maybe quieter, fatter, not so cool, into weird things like reading, science, drama club

Pressure to make fun of someone with a learning disability, or an elderly person.

How about pressure to tease and bully others?

Karen
