Our cat needs to gain weight - need ideas

My healthy 15 year old cat has always been slender (she always ate twice as much as my fat cat!!!!!!) As she has gotten older, she certainly eats alot, but not enough to "keep up". The only thing that has helped her gain back the weight is lactose free whole milk. Milk isn't necesssarily the best thing for a cat. but it has been for her.She is much more energetic, playful, and happy.

well it's not like I'm a vet... all I can say is that I've been told by vets, people who care for large numbers of cats, books and internet sources that all say you shouldn't give cats soft food except as an occasional treat, because it's very bad for their teeth (some say digestion too).... so I'll keep feeding mine hard food....

Actually I do believe as the cats age it is BETTER to give the cats canned food, mainly almost 100% protein. Cats are 100% carnivores and the filler in dry is not good for them.
Their digestive system sometimes has trouble with the dry food in addition they need the added water.
Also has to do with the nutrients being available more readily for absorption.
