Hi All,

We just returned from 8 days at the BW and had a great time. Our first night was in a studio which was 4099. It was in fine shape. The bedding was new and the sofa bed was the new type. My kids reported the sofa as being very comfortable, and the bed was comfortable.

The rest of the vacation we were in a 2 bedroom: 3069-3071. The good news is that both rooms had all new bedding. Maid service had done a great job cleaning the room, and it was probably the cleanest room we had received.

The bad news is that a lot of the furniture is starting to look very worn and dated. One of the cushions on the chair at the breakfast bar had been written on with a pen, and holes were poked in it with a pen. When I opened the drawer to the bench in the master bedroom, the knob came right off. Other furniture was battered. I should have complained but didn't because I had more of a reason to complain -- lack of sleep.

The worst thing is that the location is the pits. IMHO, this should not even be offered to members as a standard view room. It is actually a back stage room. It isn't what you see out the window that bothered me. What bothered me is that directly below you is a storage area for the luggage cages they use for magical express. They load and unload these cages, which rattle loudly and make a great deal of noise, all day and all night. That's all you hear. When you are not hearing that, you are hearing the truck that picks them up beep as they put it in reverse. This is a very unacceptable location. We could not nap in the afternoon, and we could not sleep at night. If we finally did get to sleep, we heard the truck beeping at 5 am.

The only rooms that could possibly be worse are 2069/2071 and 1069/1071. In fact, 1069/71 has no view at all as the front is covered by cages. In essence, you are in the luggage storage room.

I went to the front desk to complain after the first night. I had a nice conversation with the front desk clerk (who I could tell heard this complaint before) and DJ the manager (who was very nice and tried to help). THere were no other rooms available for at least a couple of nights. He said they would try to move the cages, but that didn't happen. They finally did call to offer us another 2 bedroom - a smoking room. We couldn't take it because we had 2 people with asthma in the room.

So I would advise anyone to try to avoid the rooms in this location (very close to the elevator, standard view).

Also, can anyone tell me who I should contact to lodge a complaint about these rooms and the cages? Thanks!

Sorry you had a less than peaceful vacation. I would have been peturbed about hearing the trucks and cages rattling too. Even though they are "condo" quality, a lot of noise makes it into the rooms.

We were at the BWV's from 11/4-11/9. We were upgraded the first night from a studio standard to a studio preferred (great view of the pool).

Here's what we found:

The pool is very noisy during the day (games with the lifeguard talking on a microphone and people having fun in the pool :thumbsup2), thus, hard to take a nap.

Our toilet was just about to fall over. It would rock when you sat on it. Kind of scary.

Our 1bd never had hot water for the shower. I called maintenance and they replaced the shower nob, but we still didn't have hot water. Tepid, but not hot.

On our last night, I kept asking DH if he could hear someone snoring. Man, the person next door came through the walls!

The hallways felt like 32 degrees. Would have been fine, but we had about 1/4 mile walk to our room from the elevators ;) .

Our 1bd overlooked the park, river, and Swan/Dolphin. Nice quiet place.

Overall, our first visit to our home resort was nice.

Sorry, don't know the e-mail address for comments and complaints.

I think this is what you are looking for.

Thanks Diane. Should I also write the GM of the Boardwalk, or would Carli suffice?

Winjos,

You have reminded me of another problem. There was a problem with the water turning cold in the showers in the morning. It would go from hot to suddenly cold, sort of the reverse of what would happen in a home if someone flushed a toilet.

One morning my Brother complained he could not get hot water. We called the front desk and were told there was a plumbing problem they had been working on for 2 days.

The funny thing is though, we only had a problem with water temp in the mornings. Those of us who took the showers in the evenings never had a problem.

I don't want everyone to think the stay was terrible -- it wasn't. But at least one of us, if not more than one, had a problem sleeping at least once during the trip. Several of us had cold showers.

Is this a deluxe resort experience?

Maybe the next DVC mailout to members should be Purple ear plugs with the DVC logo on the case. :goodvibes

We've stayed in a very similar room, but on the top floor. So we didn't hear the noise you mention. On the other hand, that was before ME started so maybe the noise/clutter issue is new.

I guess that is a trade-off for some people who want to be near the elevators in a SV room to avoid the l....o.....n.....g hallways. ;)

I'm glad you still enjoyed your trip...sounds like you kept the annoying problems in perpective to still allow you to have a great trip!

Thanks for sharing your comments. :)

I've been in that exact room, along with one at the end of the hallway, plus a Boardwalk view room. With the door closed I didn't think the noise was that bad at all during the day. At night we use sound machines thus never heard anything at all.

The one advantage with BWV's is that you can guarentee that you don't get this room by taking a preferred room or getting a boardwalk room. That room, along with others that are near the front entrance are the reasons standard view rooms came to existance in the first place. Noise and the view. It would be a different story if you paid extra points for it.

The question is, what should they do? Get rid of all those rooms and raise our rates? I don't think so. They are already discounted, someone has to get them.

I see no reason to complain since this is a problem thats already been taken care of by the offer of discounted points for that room along with the other standard view rooms.

Just my two cents. :)

I always ask to be a long long way from the elevator :rotfl: I'll take that long walk anyday over the type of view you are describing!

Wow! That is too bad. I don't think I would like that either. I would complain too. Best of luck next time.

I am with you Chris. In fact, we DID request to be far from the elevator, obviously that didn't happen. We did get a non smoking room though. :thumbsup2

On the good side, my parents, for whom I got a preferred view studio on cash and points, got "upgraded" to a 3rd floor studio overlooking the Village Green. They also had a view of the lake and the BW. The best thing about this room was that it had a gigantic balcony -- it must have been the size of our living room.

This block of rooms, on the third floor, all have the big balcony. If anyone can score one of these I would consider it a fabulous location! :wizard:

I must respectfully disagree with you. Disney goes to great pains to hide anything unsightly (they had nicely painted walls up around parts of the food and wine festival the day after it closed). This was not a standard view room. I would take a standard view room overlooking the driveway, entrance or whatever any day. This was a backstage room that was by a storage area. This area should not be used for these cages, and another place should be found to put them.

Just like the BW does not line luggage up outside except when you are immediately dropping off or picking up (it is stored inside), these cages should not be outside. There should be a loading dock-like area for loading and unloading these things, just like there is an area for other types of deliveries. :goodvibes

Sorry about your experience.

In October our preferred view Studio was two doors down from the elevator. From about 9 pm to 2 am we could hear the motor and sound of the elevators (every five minutes it seemed). We couldn't sleep and moved the next day.

I had the same thought as you, this was not something that I expected from a Deluxe hotel.

Good luck with your letter. DH and I have been contemplating writing our own.

The next time I book at the BWV my request will be "far from the elevators."

Mind you the first time our request was for non-smoking only.

We always request "away from the elevators" or "near MGM". I'd be distressed if I a really noisy room like you've described. We leave the fan going in the bathroom all night, and that helps if our neighbors are "less than silent".

Does anyone know why they keep the hallways so cold? It must be expensive, and about 3-4 degrees warmer would be much more comfortable.

I had a lukewarm shower one morning last week...must have been one of the days they had trouble. All other days were fine. Hope they have this one under control....

Wow, sorry to hear about your room. We stayed in that area 1 1/2 years ago but there was no ME. I would not find this acceptable when I wait all year for my one week of vacation and then to be put where there are cages for the luggage. I don't care if they are standard points or regular points - there is no excuse for this. The standard points are for the view - not the noise and certainly not by a loading dock!

Also, DVC should pay more attention to the wear and tear on the furniture and change items out if there is wear beyond what is acceptable. I noticed that when we were last there and hope to see an improvement when we are there in March. Also, what's with the pipes there - it seems they always have trouble.

I hope your next vacation you have the best room and view - you deserve it!

Sorry you didn't get any sleep! I noticed the ME carts last month when we were there and they were constantly loading and unloading them - I am sure it was very annoying. Thanks for the report!

I will be at BWV in December. I have requested a non-smoking room, and it is standard view. I will now request a room far from the elevators. Thanks for this info.

This just tells me that I won't do Standard view. I love a view anyway.

Yep, same here. BW View for us-otherwise we will stay with BCV. :cool1:

I haved stayed at the BW 4 times in the past year, I live an hour from disney. We always get a 1 BR. lake view and have had no problem with hot water, furniture or day noise. I found if you are on the lower floors you get all the 2 am noise from the people leaving ESPN, The brewery and jellyrolls.
