We are me, DH, DD Jennifer age 14, and DS Mark age 10. We have been to WDW about 9 times since July, 1999, and are DVC members with our home resort at VWL.

Saturday, 3/11 - Arrival:
Got up and out the door by 6:15 am for an 8:00 flight. Connected at Chicago O'Hare and got to MCO at 2:30 pm. Took DME and got to our room at VWL by 4:30 pm. We're in 5557 in a 2 bedroom villa, which is on the top floor of the Villas wing, at the very end of the hall. A bit of a walk but very quiet! We get our swim suits on from our carry-ons and head out to both the quiet pool and to the main pool, Sliver Creek Falls. We go back after about 1 1/2 hours, but alas, our luggage is still not there . . . but there's a knock on the door after about 5 minutes, while we are in the shower, of course, and there they are! Head off to Whispering Canyon Cafe for dinner at 8:30. We get the skillet dinners, DS Mark gets a chicken leg kid's meal. Head back to room and fall asleep.

Sunday, 3/12 - Animal Kingdom
Up and out the door by 8:30 am. Got to park by 9:15, head over to Expedition Everest. Got Fast Passes, and then got into the stand-by line (listed as 40 minutes, but really took about 25)-fantastic ride!!! Went to Kali River Rapids next, got soaked, then back to Expedition Everest for our Fast Pass time. Over to DinoLand, got Fast Pass for Dinosaur, rode Primeval Whirl. Watched the street performers ("painters"), then rode Dinosaur. Lunch at Restaurantosaurus.
DS Mark went to the Boneyard while DH and DD Jennifer waited for him and I went to Safari for Fast Passes. Then, over to It's Tough To Be a Bug, and then to Festival of the Lion King. Now, time for our Safari Fast Passes. Over to Rafiki's Planet Watch/Conservation Station while the 4 pm parade is going on. Left there about 6, got bus to Poly for our dinner at 6:45 at Kona Cafe. Monorailed to MK (did not go in), got boat to WL, and to bed.

Monday, 3/13 - MGM Studios
Up and out again by 8:35. In MGM by 9:10, over to Rock 'n' Rollercoaster, got Fast Pass, and then did standby (about 25 mins). Went over to Tower of Terror, standby was about 25 minutes (listed as 40). Went back to Rock 'n' Rollercoaster for our Fast Pass time. Walked back to Mickey Avenue, did the new attraction "Journey into Narnia" (it's not much; you go to a room and stand in front of a large wardrobe, while a CM tells you about the story; then you walk through the wardrobe into the 'winter' landscape from the movie. The White Witch appears on a balcony above you and menaces you, then you watch scenes from the movie for about 5 minutes. Then you go through an exit area which has costumes and props from the film. That's it.). Then did Who Wants to be a Millionaire - Play It! (DS Mark wanted to win $1M). Lunch at Backlot Express. DD Jennifer really wanted turkey legs, so I go back to Toluca Legs Turkey Co over by Rock 'n' Rollercoaster, picking up Fast Passes to Star Tours along the way. After lunch, we head to Star Tours for our Fast Pass, then to Muppet Vision 3-D. Going down Streets of America, we see the band "Mulch, Sweat, and Shears" getting set up, so we listen for a while, but they are playing Green Day stuff, and we are not big GD fans, so we move on to the Backlot Tour, which we get on just before the HUGE crowd from the 2:15 Lights, Motors, Action show lets out! Afterwards, we do Great Movie Ride while the parade is going on, then run for the 5 pm Indy Jones Stunt Show. We get Mickey Bars and Itsakadoosies, and head out of the park, walking to the Boardwalk while we eat. We catch a Downtown Disney bus for our 7 pm ADR at Raglan Road in Pleasure Island. This is one of our best meals -- I got the It Ain't Bleedin' Chowder, DD Jen gets the Salmon of Knowledge, and DS Mark gets the child's Fish and Chips (I forgot what DH got). GREAT Irish Soda Bread, too! We think about walking around Downtown Disney for a while, but we decide we are too tired, so we catch our WL bus and head back home to bed.

Tuesday, 3/14 - Magic Kingdom
Up and out again at 8:30, and arrive at MK just a couple of mins before 9 am (we see Mickey, Minnie, and Friends officially open the park from the train station ledge). We head over to Buzz Lightyear, while DH heads to Space Mountain to get Fast Passes. We do Buzz twice in a row, first time with a 5 minute wait, second time with 10 min wait. Head to Mickey's Philharmagic, catching part of Cinderellabration as we pass in front of the Castle. After Philharmagic, we kill some time on It's a Small World, then go back to Space Mountain for our Fast Pass time. Then, it is a little after 11, and we have reservations at AKL for the Lunch with Disney's Animal Program at Jiko at noon, so we head out of the park and catch the AKL bus. We get there in plenty of time, and rest for a while in the amazing AKL lobby. Lunch is reviewed here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1063678
After lunch, we head back to MK, and head toward Adventureland. We get FastPasses to Jungle Cruise, then do Enchanted Tiki Birds and then splurge on Dole Whips at Aloha Isle. We do Jungle Cruise (it's so corney, it always cracks us up), then over to Hall of Presidents. Afterwards, we get in line for Haunted Mansion, which moves quickly - the listed 40 minute wait is only about 15 minutes, UNTIL we get to the ramp after the Stretch Room and the Doom Buggy loading area. Yup, the ride goes down. We are stuffed in there with about 200 other guests for about 20 minutes. The ride finally starts back up again. After that, we head out of the park again and monorail over to the Contemporary, where we have 7:30 ADR for Concourse Steakhouse. After that, we monorail back to MK and catch our boat to WL.

Wednesday, 3/15 - Epcot
Head out early again, and head over to Soarin' first - already up to a 40 minute wait at 9:20 (really about 30 minutes), while DH heads to get Fast Passes at Test Track. After Soarin', we ride Living with the Land. By now, we can get another Fast Pass, which we do for Soarin', then go over for our Test Track Fast Pass time. We go by the Wonders of Life pavilion, but sadly, it is closed, so we do Ellen's Energy Adventure. Then we check out Innoventions, which the kids promptly do not want to leave, but it is time for our lunch ADR at Chefs de France at 1 pm. After lunch, we go back for our Soarin' Fast Pass time. I want to check out Turtle Talk with Crush at The Living Seas, since we have not done this one yet. It's good for the 8 and under set, and seriously needs a Fast Pass. We waited about 30 minutes, and we get to a small theater where Crush appears on screen and "talks" to the kids, calling a few as "the girl in the purple shirt", etc. After leaving the theater, DD Jennifer wants to check out the manatee tank, and we see two recused manatees at feeding time. Then off to Cool Corner (used to be Ice Station Cool, now just the pop dispensers and merchandise - no more fakey fiberglass igloo, no frozen Iceman, etc). Half the samples were out already, but not "Beverly" !! Then over to World Showcase, starting with Mexico, riding the boat ride, then over to Norway, with a 15 min wait for the boats. Over to China, where we watch the 6:15 Dragon Legend Acrobats, then we boat over to Canada where we catch the last of the 6:30 pm Off Kilter show. We go to UK, to catch the 7:00 British Invasion show, then over the International Gateway for our 7:30 pm ADR at Cape May Cafe at Beach Club. We don't get in until almost 8 pm, and by the time we finish, it is 9:15. We just walk through Epcot on our way out to catch our bus.

Thursday, 3/16 - Free Day
We get up and head down to the lobby at 9 am for the Wonders of the Lodge tour with Ranger Stan. This is a very nice and informative tour of the theming of the lodge, and Stan even showed us some "hidden Mickeys". Some reports say you go outside and see the landscaping, but we didn't. Then we head back to Epcot, since the kids really wanted to go back to Innoventions. We start at Innoventions East, while DH gets Fast Pass to Mission: Space. We head over there in about an hour, and DD Jennifer adamantly does NOT want to go (she gets motion sickness very easily). Well, lo and behold, one of the Fast Passes did not print out, so she sits out the ride while DH, DS Mark and I do it. Then we get turkey legs for lunch, and after that, we do Innoventions West. After a while there, we start heading out of the park, but not before we hop on Spaceship Earth, as our last ride. Then back to the VWL, where we get ready for our "fancy" dinner at Citricos at 5:30. It's a wonderful meal, and the restaurant is similar in decor to California Grill and Flying Fish. Afterwards, we monorail and bus back to VWL, where we start packing up for our departure the next day.

Friday, 3/17 - Departure
Out the door at 8 am. Check in at DME/Airline Check-in. On bus by 8:35, and after picking up more guest at Poly and GF, we head to MCO for our 11:28 departure. Get back to Iowa at 3:30 pm, pick up the animals from the kennel, and recover from probably our best trip ever!

hi Deb in Iowa

Jen in Iowa here...

where did you fly out of? I assume DSM...I just have a hard time finding good prices on flights in Iowa!!

sounds like a great trip!!

we are out on break now so you must have been out a week prior...did you go for spring break??

Hi Jen!!!

Ugh! Yes, I just about pull out my hair for those ridiculously high air fares from Iowa. Actually, we flew out of Cedar Rapids, and we used our Frequent Flyer miles for the tickets.

I've had some luck with getting cheaper fares from the Quad Cities, which is not too much farther for us. Air Tran, in particular, now flies non-stop from Moline to Orlando, and sometimes, they have specials.

Another option is Allegiant Air, which flies non-stop from Cedar Rapids, and when they first started, they ran promotional fares of $59.00 one way to Orlando! The only problem with them is that they fly into Sanford Airport, not MCO (Orlando International Airport), which does not have Disney's Magical Express.

Yes, our Spring Break was last week. Now, it's back to the grind . . .

I LOVED YOUR REPORT......I can hardly wait to go......I am just hearing alot about the restaurant at DTD .....was your chowder New England creamy style or Red New York Style.....I like a good chowder ......Mainers do that .....thanks so much for your itinerary and restuarants ......makes me anxious for 30 something days to go by

Thanks for reading, pumba!!!!

The seafood chowder at Raglan was like nothing I've ever had before. It is actually in a white wine broth, with potato and cabbage, along with mussels, prawns, scallops, and fresh seafood.

Here's the menu description from Deb Wills' site:
It's Not Bleedin' Chowder - mussels, prawns, scallops and fresh seafood infused with white wine and finished with cream with fresh potato $18.00

I thought it was great!

oh my mouth is drooling......I make a wicked good one during the winter months and this place will be on my agenda for a meal........thanks again for posting about it

Great report - condensed, to the point and yet made me feel I was there! I lived in Iowa when I was little (Pocahontas, Fort Dodge, Des Moines) and yes IA stands for Iowa, not Ohio (I got alot of "you're from Hawaii??!!!" when we moved to Oregon (and that's Oar-E-gun not Oaragone :rotfl2: ). People crack me up - hey I crack myself up (my kids don't think I'm funny, just old ;) )

Before I forget (see I told you I was old) did you have the dining plan on this trip?

Deb in Virginia - wonder what that makes me???

Just read your report, Deb, came here from a few links on the CB. Sure sounds like a nice trip. And you sure can tell you have Disney 'experience', everything you did, direction you went, etc, had a purpose, LOL, you knew where you were going, not a lot of wasted time. Sounds like a fun one. :thumbsup2

What a wonderful trip, Deb! I really need to try Raglan Road one of these days.

Thanks for posting!

Deb:

Enjoyed your report! As I was reading, I kept thinking, oh yeah, I want to do that! And that! And that!

Glad you had a memorable trip.

Hi, Deb in VA!!! Greetings from the Hawkeye State!
Before I forget (see I told you I was old) did you have the dining plan on this trip?
No, we did not do the Disney Dining Plan. We are pretty flexible in regards to our meals, and we used our DVC discount for our dinners.

It seems nothing changes much over on the CB, right, Dan? Anyway, thanks for reading my report. Yes, by now, we have a pretty good idea of what we want to do and what we can skip. For example, we skipped all of the parades and fireworks this time. We've seen them all before, and at this point, we did not want to battle the crowds and the worry about getting good spots, etc.

TLinden, Raglan Road was a nice surprise for us. It was really a lot better than I thought it would be.

Thanks, jimmie!! We did as much as we could in 5 days, I think.

Finally read your report---sounds like a GREAT trip.

We were at AK on the 12th and MK on the 14th as well in addition to being your VWL neighbors, so I would not be surprised if our paths DID cross.

I really enjoyed your report, to the point, informative and ALL IN ONE THREAD which I love :thumbsup2 . Welcome home!

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for sharing.

sure packed alot in your time there

I also enjoyed your Jiko dinner review

thanks for sharing
