Our Annual Pilgrimage--We Made It, Lil League

Next week we make our annual Pilgrimage to Nittany Mountain. We will be pretty close to Penn State U and the home of Papa Joe, Head Coach of the Nittany Lions Football Team.

What is a Nittany ??? I have asked this question to my son-in-law, who is a graduate of the main campus of Penn State. His answers ; a Princess, a Tribe, a River, the Sun, the Moon, Joe Paterno's nickname, on and on and on.

I am always suspect when he begins with "I Think". Maybe someday when I get the ambition I will Google 'Nittany' and probably wind up with another 15 answers.

But, we are not going to 'Nittany' Mountain to bow to Papa Joe or visit Penn State or even fish in some fabulous trout streams or kayak on the Suskie (Susquehanna River). We are throwin' the anchor over on the 5r, at a 'Nittany Mountain KOA'.

WE ARE GOIN' TO THE LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES.

The elements: A Happening, The Atmsophere, The Noise, The Place To Be, The Smell Of Funnel Cake. I failed to mention 'BASEBALL'---It is the home of where you root for your team and the other team. It is the Major Leagues of the Biggest Little Guys & Ladies playing 'THE GAME'.

It is a MUST to sit on 'THE HILL', but carefull preparation is needed. You never want to bounce down the hill---2 pictures below.

That is as American a tradition as you can get.

In 2006, my nephew played on the Dunedin, Florida team that almost made it to the finals in PA, but they lost to a team from Columbus, Georgia in the Southeast Regional finals.

That is really some good baseball there.

TCD---- Georgia (SE) has been really tough the last couple of years.

They hit sooooooo many home runs last year. We had to move further up the hill to try and catch a baseball. Tough job for me. I played Basketball, the ball is much bigger. 'DW Shirley, if one comes our way you go for it girl'.

Googling Nittany is as confusing as my son-in-law.

Mountain Lions named Nittany.

A single mountain.

A valley in Central PA.

I gave up when it said OBSCURE. That gives my son-in-law the edge. He wins. He now has the license to call 'Nittany' just about anything that comes to mind.

Dear son-in-law, if you and my daughter have another Grand Kiddie for us, please don't torture me and name your child "Nittany'.

Thursday baseball. It's called the LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES 2010.

Williamsport Pa = Homeruns, double plays, thrown out at the plate, backhand grabs, diving for a catch, great weather, great people, a come from behind win.

Texas down by 3 to Washington, late in the game has a 5 run inning, comes from behind to win and qualifies for U.S. Championship on Saturday.

A disciplined Hawaii team, had it all. Pitching, hitting, defense, in beating Georgia. Georgia did wake up toward the end of the game and some of Hawaii's discipline faded a bit. Hawaii got their act together and prevailed.

They, Hawaii and Georgia, play tomorrow in a one game elimination (the only game scheduled). Hawaii appears to be the more talented team, but we (DW & I) have seen Georgia come from behind the last 2 years to win it all. The winner of this game plays Texas for the U.S. Championship on Saturday. We will be there tomorrow sitting on the OFFICIAL HILL CHAIR and just taking it all in.

A bonus---The 'Nittany' Mountain KOA has a pond with some really nice bigmouths. Yes, tomorrow I will fly rod these bass, before going to the game, and see if I come up a winner. Maybe I will catch a 'Nittany'.

But, it will not be as good as a hotdog, fries and the super game of Lil League baseball.
